Hope this works... here's a shot of my CB and the wife's Scout at Hurricane Ridge in Washington state. It was a beautiful day this past Saturday so we were out enjoying it.

I've recently been considering giving my longer than average legs a little more room on my bike. The wonder of EBay produced a set of 30mm adjustable pegs for the bargain price of £40. The adjustment allows eight possible positions and I opted for the down and forward option. Fitting the pegs was quite simple but changing the pegs produced other problems which had to be addressed. On the right hand side I needed to lower the brake. The adjustment on the threaded rod from the brake cylinder allowed loads of movement to raise the brake lever but hardly any to lower it before the adjuster bottomed out on the brake lever body. After much deliberation I decided to cut approx 4mm off the adjuster rod. This allowed the brake pedal to be lowered to the desired level while still allowing it to be returned to its original position if necessary. Having the brake nearer to the peg allows more leverage and improves the braking effect.

The left side produced its own set of problems. Firstly, the heel kick on the side stand fouled the peg. Easy fix, bend it slightly to give clearance. Lowering the gear lever is simple, two lock nuts, turn adjuster bar and tighten nuts. The biggest problem was in having the pegs nearer to the lever. Because the foot moves from below to above the lever for up and down changes the angle of movement is increased. When I got the position for upward changes correct then the downward position was compromised. The solution was simple. Honda use a 21mm rubber on the gear lever and by changing this to a 15mm rubber (gas pipe hose) the angle of foot movement returned to standard.

I did a 200 mile run yesterday through the winding Yorkshire Moors and the new peg position is superb. No vibration and no clearance problems. The only adjustment I failed to make was to the brake light switch which my riding colleagues were quick to tell me about, a couple of turns on the plastic nut and it was sorted.

So I went into the garage to play around with some soft bags I already purchased a couple years back to see how they would look on the CB1100. I really had no intention of using them but said what the heck, I'll try them. They are Nelson Riggs sport bags. Plus I threw my puig windscreen and GPS back on. Bags are good for a short weekend blast.

My 2013 CB1100's most noticeable engine vibration is during very low rpm roll-ons, specifically idle to 2100 rpm. I never really noticed it until lately, in my old age I am happily content to short-shift thru the gears. Is this vibration normal w/ the CB1100? No engine mods other than 1 tooth larger countershaft sprocket.

This is a long story told short. Undoubtedly in the fullness of time, all the facts will emerge. But for now lets make do with this.

Capella is not overflowing with road bike tyres. Tractor tyres, no problem. ATV tyres, no problem. Truck tyres, no problem. 4x4 tyres, no problem. Farm bike tyres, not a big problem. But a road bike tyre, especially an 18 size? Just let me say that, in Capella, or its surrounds, there is a better chance of finding piles of rocking-horse pooh.

After some time on the blower it appeared that the nearest Pirelli, or Michelin, or anything, was in Townsville, a mere 560kms to the north, or Brisbane, a little further away at 928kms to the south. Estimated delivery time ranged from 5 days to well over a week. Fedex has never heard of Capella. Things were not looking good. That evening, around the fire, while consoling myself over a quiet beer it was suggested that there was a bike shop in Mackay, on the coast 331kms to the east, that might be worth try.



So next morning I called them. Jackpot! A Pirelli Angel GT, and a bargain at only AUD309. Delivery time, four days. Cormanus, without hesitation, said, “No worries, I will ride down to Mackay and get it.” That would have to be a two day ride as riding at night is just not on. Road Trains and big rigs can average up to fifty, yes I said fifty, kangaroo hits a night on roads in that part of the world. And that is disregarding the odd wombat, raptor feasting on road kill, emu or wild bull! Some of those roads are a true charnel house. Think, think and more phone calls. A courier company runs a service daily from Mackay to Moranbah, a mining town a paltry 158 kms to the north of Capella, departing Mackay mid-morning and arriving at Moranbah “about” 2:30 in the afternoon. Once again, “No worries, I will be at Moranbah at 2 and back in Capella by before 5.” Saying that, Cormanus rode with me to a rural tyre service where I left Last Blast, pillioned me back to our camp site, stripped the top box off his CB, gathered a handful of straps, cords and a water bottle and blasted off towards Moranbah.

So, how to fill in the rest of the day in Capella? It is well over 30deg C during the day in Capella at this time of the year, so I decided to ponder this question over a cold beer at the Hotel Capella. I pondered this question for a considerable period of time. After some time, almost sated with pondering and a meat pie for lunch, it occurred to me that neither heat nor flies, nor the beasts of the road, nor the loneliness of the Aussie bush, nor yet the big rigs that degrade the tarmac of our roads, would deter Cormanus from his appointed task. It should be apparent to you, dear reader, that I was truly pondered.

Cormanus arrived back in Capella, having ridden from Moranbah with an Angel GT strapped to the back of his CB, before five o’clock. With some above and beyond the call of duty from Anthony at Lacey’s Tyres, Rural & Industrial, Capella, Last Blast was re-shod and ready to go at 7:30 next morning.

I never did get a photo of Cormanus’ CB with that tyre strapped to it but I live in hope that one may, eventually, turn up.

I live about 35 miles from the city of Cincy. Actually grew up there and moved to the country when I got married at 23. In one of the suburbs of Cincy is a little burb called Norwood, once famous for having a GM plant. Plant built Camaros and Chevy II Novas. The plant had all kinds of trouble with absenteeism, poor production numbers, poor quality control, vandalism, lots of theft etc. Anyhow back in the early 70's there was talk of it shutting down but the Union was strong then, and thought itself invincible.

Hang in there this is going someplace lol.

One day it was rumored the Governor was coming in to inspect the GM plant to see why GM was considering closing it. He was trying to save jobs. The workers thinking that there was no way they were going to close it, barely showed up on the day the Gov was there. 23% absentee rate IIRC. Long story short the plant was closed down.

Ok here's where it comes together.

There was a little Café in town at the corner of Montgomery Road and Quatman Ave which made a good name for itself by feeding the GM workers. For 50 cents you got a huge grilled cheeseburger, with a slice of onion and dill pickle slices and a serving of potato chips. It became THE place where the blue collar workers went to eat lunch. Nothing fancy just big juicy burgers and chips for a couple of quarters. It was called Quatman Cafe, or just Quatman's. When I was in high school in the late 60's my mom would save her dimes until she got $1.50 together, and then she would drive down to Quatman's and buy cheeseburgers for dinner for herself and my brother and I (mine without onion of course lol) . It was a real treat.

Anyhow after the closing of the auto plant the locals started eating at Quatman's and it has been serving the same burgers only now supplanted with fries instead of chips, still with onion and pickle, served on a paper plate on tables covered by red and white checkered cloth. I think this is their 50th year in business. My brother and I drive there maybe twice a year for a Quatman burger and today along with my son and his father in law was the day for a ride to Quatman's.

Oh...and on the way there we stopped at the local Triumph dealer to check out the new T120 and Thruxton. They didn't have a Thruxton but my brother fell in love with the new Bonnie (really a nice machine!) and his 2003 Bonnie is now for sale lol

Since a couple of weeks ago appeared a rattling noise when releasing the gas or when downshifting, specially noticeable at lower gears. It disappears as I drive 5 minutes and it warms up. To me it sounds like a loose cam chain. Today morning I asked at the official dealer and they gave me a date for next week. For me it looks like the cam chain tensioner, someone had something similar with his CB?

Just received my staintune slip on, ordered direct, was pleasantly surprised by the price. Listed price is $800, plus $100 international shipping. Turns out that is in Australian Dollars, I ended up paying $710.00 U.S., which included shipping.
