Wanderer or Route Rider ...which type are you?
Posted by: the Ferret - 07-18-2016, 11:09 PM - Forum: Motorcycling - General - Replies (59)

I normally make a couple of trips a year, 2,000 to 2,200 miles on average. Freestyling, with no plan or anything other than a general destination is my favorite. Good luck and keep riding long and hard
-MotoGeezer_

Our friend MotoGeezer has said this on multiple occasions and it always fascinated me. I will wander aimlessly around home although generally not. For instance I know today I will be heading down 222 to 50, out 50 to Hillsboro Ohio, down 247 to the river at Aberdeen then take 52 back home.

I have all the routes planned out for the Men's Fall Trip which will take place this year in eastern Ohio. It takes place in September and I already know what exact roads/routes we will be riding on what days. Hotel rooms will be booked in the next few days.

When I go out of state I go to a specific spot on specific roads, and stay in specific places all planned in advance.

For some reason I just can't imagine saying to my wife, Honey, I'm headed out for a few days. Nowhere in particular, think I will just head northwest and see what I find. More likely for me it would be Honey think I will ride up to South Dakota, I've always wanted to see the Bad Lands. Think I will take 74 over to Indy, then 80 over to 39 north, spend the first night in XXX. (I always have hotel rooms booked in advance). Then on up to XXX .... Be back on the 23rd.

Just wondered how many of you are wanderers, like Geezer, or route riders like yours truly?

  AirHawk Seat
Posted by: White Dog_imp - 07-18-2016, 01:16 PM - Forum: Accessories/Modifications - Replies (13)

Bit the bullet today and ordered the AirHawk R seat cushion for my CB1100. Talked with AirHawk rep, gave her my seat measurements and how much of the seat my butt occupies. She recommended the small size (11L x 11W with 6W cut out at front. Fleabay has them for $135, free shipping.

The PO had the tail light and license plate bracket relocated down on the side of the bike, which I though was dangerous, not to mention unfitting for a bike that wasn't a Harley. There's also some rust build up on the underside of the fender, and I want to get that off before coating the bottom of the fender with something... Maybe plastidip? Any tips on rust removal?
Anyways, I bent some emt conduit and ran the wiring through that, adding some electrical disconnects since the PO had cut the wiring. I also cut some sheet metal to the bend of the bar to act as a fender for now. All stock parts are reinstall-able at any time, but I'm kinda digging this no fender look. Next move is low bars or clip-ons up front and a seat.

Hello Gentleman, I'm seeking guidance regarding my 2nd oil change. I brought the bike in for it's 600 mile service and I'm now at approximately 2800 miles. When shall I get the oil changed, and is there anything else I ought be doing at this stage of the game to keep the bike running well? Many thanks in advance to all!

I squashed a squirrel today. He darted across the road and met his fate, and my Bridgestone, as I rode over him. Poor guy. Bad timing on his part.

Several miles later I caught up to a Porsche Boxster and followed him for a spell. Then it happened again -- a suicidal squirrel darted out from the shoulder and found himself under the Porsche's rear tire, getting himself flattened in a shriek of fur, blood, and bones.

And a few years ago, I found a dead bird lodged up inside the fairing of one of my other bikes. I didn't even know I hit him.

Best not to stop or swerve to avoid small road critters. Deer and moose, of course, are a different story. Last week, there was a three-car accident in Minnesota after a driver stopped on the interstate to allow a run of ducks to cross the freeway. He was rear-ended, and then another car plowed into them.

  Fuel Choices
Posted by: Outlander427_imp - 07-17-2016, 02:48 AM - Forum: Mechanical & Technical - Replies (30)

Since I bought my CB in February I have been using mainly grocery store premium fuel. Out of convenience I chose to spend the extra and get Shell premium and I noticed a real difference in on demand power. Just curious if anyone else has had a similar experience. Which fuel do you use?

Last Friday my son got off work early and comfronting the possibility of not much to do for the weekend, hopped on his Street Twin at noon and rang the door bell at the house at about 10pm. Biker No planning, no packing meds, extra socks, ibuprofen or Ben-Gay. Just to spend 2 nights with his mom and dad and get some home cooking.

Today he goes back to Norfolk. So, if you're out and about on the I-95 and see a silver Street Twin hauling tushy northbound, shoot him a wave. That's Fran.
