Hi guys,

using youtube I compiled a short vid based on my pictures from a 2016 trip to the western balkan states with my CB 1100 EX..

  My Two Bonnevilles
Posted by: ClassicVW_imp - 02-04-2017, 07:18 AM - Forum: Other Bikes - Replies (14)

Well, I had started out looking for another CB after realizing I should have kept mine. I was also considering a BMW R1200C cruiser, another bike that I had owned then sold. Well, IMO all the cruisers I looked at were way overpriced for a 15 year old machine and did I really want to buy something that old?

And I couldn't find a reasonably priced CB that compared to what I had had. Yeah, mine was just too nice.

So I would come to realize that there are some really good deals to be had on slightly used Triumphs. So I wound up with TWO 2014 Bonnevilles that were outfitted already with options I would probably buy anyway. Why two? I intend to keep them about 160 miles apart, one at home, and one at a summer home.

The white one has a Road Comet fairing from our friend Mr T!

  Staintune 2017
Posted by: physics-teacher_imp - 02-04-2017, 06:25 AM - Forum: Accessories/Modifications - Replies (24)

Add my name to the list of raving Staintune fans! I just got my new pipe installed and boy am I impressed! I don't know what I like most, the improved appearance, sound, or performance gain. The fine youtube productions just can't reproduce the authoritative snarl you get if you blip off idle; the engine sounds to me like something with about 200 hp and must have been forced into the frame with a chair and a whip. A pick up in roll-on performance becomes noticeable at 60 mph in top gear and is dramatic at 70 mph. Well, all my friends with the four-into-one setup, buy yourself a staintune and you'll never be jealous of the DLX crowd again.
Don't worry about the noise while you're cruising at 60 or so. The wind noise is louder than the engine and you will hardly notice the difference.Thumbs Up

  Suspension

I did a couple of quick and dirty searches here without finding what I really wanted, but that probably means I just suck at keywords.

I've got a stock suspension and would like to swap the springs/shocks for something a bit nicer, but not bank-breaking. What do people generally like?

I assume progressives are the best choice, like most bikes?

  White specks in engine oil
Posted by: Roper_imp - 02-03-2017, 12:08 PM - Forum: Mechanical & Technical - Replies (17)

When I check the oil window before I ride, I notice white specks. After I ride, and I let the bike cool for about 30 minutes, the oil looks like its regular honey color. The next morning, the white specks are back.

In a brief internet search, I found two possibilities: It could be condensation from the cold-hot-cold cycle (not sure I buy that), or it could be leftover assembly lubricant and will be flushed out with the next oil change (not sure I buy that, either, because the dealer already did their first complimentary oil change at 600 miles.)

Anyone else have ideas?

  Checking in
Posted by: ryanschillinger_imp - 02-03-2017, 03:42 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (8)

Haven't been on here much lately. Only ridden the CB twice in about 6 weeks! Our first baby (boy) was born a month ago today. The time leading up to that was very rainy, so no riding for me. Since his birth, I haven't had much free time for anything. I put some miles on the bike Monday and was going to today, but looks like rain. Probably take the cage. Good news, the RLET's are holding strong. Bad news, somehow got a serious scratch on the Hepco side case. Looks like it got keyed but I can't know for sure.

  What is this one?

Hi all, tonight after a riding, I was looking around the bike and see this part (image attached), could anyone tell me what it is? Should I open and clean it because it looks dirty. Thanks!
