So I got bored and decided to do a video review of the bike
Posted by: iamheero_imp - 02-23-2017, 03:31 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (9)

I'm by no means an expert filmographer, just a bum with a mic and a camera and too much time on my hands! [url=https://youtu.be/fuhstA9cdeY]However, I wanted to brag about how nice SoCal is right now with some sunny footage.

A couple of times I had written all about the CB for people on Reddit who had questions or were curious about the bike so I'm hopeful this will save me some time next time it comes up! Plus, there weren't a lot of videos with any owner's comments on the bike with pros and cons when I bought her so thought I'd throw my 2c in (or given how long I drone on maybe it's more like 5c? Hello )

  interesting experience...ear plugs...tinnitus
Posted by: the Ferret - 02-23-2017, 06:51 AM - Forum: Riding Gear - Replies (23)

I have tinnitus, pretty bad. Shooting guns at a steel target in my mom and dads basement as a kid, rock and roll concerts as a sub adult, 10 years of racing 2 stroke motocross bikes in my 20's and 52 years of street motorcycling have been very damaging to my hearing. They ring all the time, pretty loudly, 24/7/365. You kind of learn to accept/ignore it, or you would never go to sleep lol. There is no relief from the ringing...ever..well except when you are actually asleep. Then you don't hear it. Otherwise it's always there, a high pitched squeal. As I understand it from my doctor, there is no cure.

Anyhow on todays ride I experimented with ear plugs. Foam for 60 miles, and gel for 60 miles. First off, wonder if you have tinnitus? Put in ear plugs. They block out most sounds other than the ones already in your head, which are amplified as a result.

Both were easy to put in although the foam requires you to roll it between your fingers to form it into a taper, then reach over your head with the opposite hand and pull your ear canal open before inserting plug. With the gel you just roll them into a ball and mush them in there using the appropriate hand for the side.

Both did a great job of blocking out other sounds. Couldn't really hear the wind. Couldn't really hear the bike. Couldn't hardly hear my horn lol. I was on my ST and the windshield also tends to block wind sound and air pressure feel. Chewing gum sounded very..um..juicy. Wow what weird noises. Clicking my teeth together sounded like someone knocking on a door. Talking or singing out loud in my helmet was really loud...and off key a lot of times lol. Because I couldn't hear the wind or the bike rpms I found myself riding faster than normal, apparent by having to trail brake on curves I was entering too fast and wasn't used to braking on. Also by looking down at my speedo and going "Oh crap I'm way over the limit", followed by more braking.

The foam plugs hurt my ears after an hour and was glad to make the switch to gel at the 60 mile mark. The gel were much more comfortable for me. The package said they could be reused up to 40 times. Got them at Kroger grocery, they were for kid swimmers.

Have a feeling most of the time I am still not going to wear them, at least on the ST. It was a weird experience. I felt isolated from the riding experience if that makes sense. I will try them on the CB and see if there is any difference.

I would highly recommend the gel plugs to anyone who doesn't already have the damage to their ears. They are soft, comfortable, effective and reusable many times over. If I do wear earplugs again, it will be the gels.

I like the 2017 CB1100 EX except for??
Posted by: CB750K1_imp - 02-22-2017, 11:25 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (26)

I have wanted an Cb1100 since 2013. I originally thought about getting a DLX in 2014, but I didn't act in time and they are few and far between. I though maybe I could wait and pick up a used DLX, but they just don't show up in the used market. When I saw the announcement for the 2017 EX, I was at first not thrilled with the tank and still wanted a DLX. Now that I have had a chance to really look at the EX for a while I must say I really like it. The only thing is that darn silver side cover. Whats with Honda and silver side covers?? If I do get a EX, the side cover will be changed to Red. I think that would make the EX a really nice bike. At this point I am just waiting for verification from Honda of exactly what the U.S. version looks like. The Honda site lists it as "European model shown" If the U.S. model looks the same I will most likely order one soon. What do you guys think of the EX and what changes would you make to it to make it "perfect"?

KC

I really like the look of the quasi grab rail on the 2017 CB1100. Might have to order one to see if it would fit on my 2014 Deluxe.

  Rear shock recommendation please

ok, need a recommendation: what's a good aftermarket rear shock? I don't ride hard- never scrape foot pegs anymore. I got Road Pilot tires and now am looking for a similar upgrade to rear shocks- thanks

  1970 Kawasaki H1 Mach III 500

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I'll be able to make a deal with the owner of this '70 H1. He's interested in selling it and I'm anxious to get my butt back in the saddle of one of these rockets. I've not seen it in person yet, but from the photo it looks pretty good.

It looks decent for a 47 year old motorcycle. And it's smoking pretty good!

Here's my original one, fairing and all. Photo taken in 1973. I've kicked myself for years that I let this bike go.
