New owner with a lot of questions....
Posted by: jdinaz_imp - 10-23-2017, 10:18 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (7)

Hello all, just picked up a 2014 CB, lovin the bike, but of course there's a few things I'd like to add, I'll do some more searching, but any help or suggestions from you experts would be appreciated.
- I'd really like a passenger back rest/rack combo...any suggestions on where to find one?
- Front crash bars, what is the choice and who makes them?
- The bike came with an aftermarket exhaust that can not be used with the center stand. Center stand is gone, is there anything out there that will hold the bike upright for oil changes and other maint?

That's a good start...all replies are appreciated.

I decided to give my GoPro a shot again and the results came out ok but after loading up to youtube it doesn't look so good.

Well, at least it'll give you an idea of what kind of riding we have in the northeast.

Roads are 225 in MA, 31 and 136 in NH and 13 in NH.

  Dropped the bike today.
Posted by: crutch_imp - 10-23-2017, 06:56 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (10)

Literally dropped it, while doing a U turn.
Left hand U turn from a complete stop, on a steep secondary road, sloping to the left and since it was a narrow road had the handlebars full left. Obviously didn't compensate for lean/gravity and before I knew it the bike was going down to the left.
Fortunately, a nice guy stopped immediately and helped me pick up the bike, which could have been difficult on that hill.
Engine guards did their job, no damage at all to the bike paint.
Left a paint scratch about a quarter on my road comet fairing, and snapped the clutch lever off about 1/3 of the way down.
Side stand scratched, and the rear soft saddlebag took the impact, fortunately I had my rain suit in it to pad it.
Feel relieved and grateful, first mishap on any bike, and no major damage or injuries, other than a sprained right thumb.
2 Questions.
How hard is it to change out a clutch lever?
Touching up paint on the fairing? Honda touch up paint? (does it exist)
Or just break out the Sharpie?

Thanks for any input and hope everyone is enjoying some great fall rides.

Question about Givi bag mounts for CB1100
Posted by: ohiorider_imp - 10-23-2017, 06:05 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (2)

I have a perfectly good set of Givi E21 hard bags. These would be a nice size bag for the CB1100. The problem is, I've been unable to find a set of bag mounts for the CB1100 that would work with these bags. Granted, it appears these bags are no longer in the current Givi product line, but seeing as how they were sold for years, there must be a bunch of used E21s out there.

In the meantime, I've purchased (but haven't installed) a set of Hepco Becker mounts and 30 liter Jr bags, but I'd like to use the E21s instead. These look (to me) visually too large for a trim bike like the CB.

Any suggestions short of making a custom set of mounts?

Bob

  Traded in the CB
Posted by: mininsx_imp - 10-23-2017, 01:15 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (36)

Saturday I traded in my '13 CB1100 for a new '17 Kawasaki Z900. The CB was and is a great bike and I thoroughly enjoyed it for almost 10,000 miles, but I got the "fever" for something new and test rode a Z, and that was it, I was hooked. $8399 list for a comfortable, naked sportbike that only weighs 445 lbs. with 125 HP will get the job done for me, and it's smooth with no engineered-in vibration. Thumbs Up
The funny thing is, the owner of the dealership was so stoked to get my CB in on trade that it was hard to tell who was happier, him or me!

CBX that wants to follow me home. On Craigslist
Posted by: Obliviontoad - 10-23-2017, 12:16 AM - Forum: Other Bikes - Replies (13)

I’ve used up all my karma points for the year, so this is a no-go for me. But when I see one, I can’t help but dream a little. Craigslist will make anything look good. This one is $2000. In Central New York.

  Prospective owner

Hi im usually a vtwin cruiser guy but the cb has caught my eye. My question is how does it compare power wise to say my v star 1300 or the victory cross country i had (106)? Like is this basically or close to a sport bike motor where even though the cc’s are smaller it still pulls off the line faster than a cruiser because of different gearing and rpms and such? Not sure how that stuff works but i have just about enough saved up for a 2013. I just dont want to hop on and it ends up riding like my 1100 shadow I had for a hot minute. Not looking to go down in CCs but if its a different thing entirely where that doesnt matter than it would help in my purchase decision. Thanks in advance friends.

  Rear shock misaligned... (not)
Posted by: Ben70_imp - 10-22-2017, 10:23 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (4)

Had my seat off today and when I put it back on I noticed from above that the left shock mount stuck out more than the right. I assumed I had the seat on wrong, so I pulled it back off and carefully centered it between the shocks, but then it wouldn't latch! I discovered that when I got it to latch, it centered with the rails for the rack, but the shocks were "off".
About twenty seconds of dismay ensued before I realized the shock mount on the left is about 1/2' inch longer than the one on the right from the factory.
Panic rapidly subsided, along with happiness that I had uncovered the reason I corner better to the right than left. Just kidding. Welcome to my occasionally befuddled world. Blush

Ben
PS Had a great short ride in the hills, nice to have smoke free skies after last weeks brief rain.
