Clunk shift or no shift

My 2013 CB1100 is even "clunkier" than my 1978 CB750. The one thing I can not figure out is; at times I am stopping without down shifting, and the trans gets lost between some gear and I have a heck of a time getting it to downshift out of the "twilight gear" zone. If I let out the clutch a little it will really slam into some gear and then I can finish shifting it to 1st or it just remains in the no gear ( not netural) and I have to keep stepping on the shifter. I want to try up shifting it sometime when it does it but it always seems like I am in traffic and my brain just want to get it going.

Just received and installed some square mirrors and a Honda rack on my '14 deluxe. First I'd like to say how impressed I was with the order, Takashi goes the extra mile to make sure the packing is really well done. The order took about 7 business days to get here.
Mirrors were an easy install and there is a big improvement, my last bike had square mirrors, so that was what I was used to, I'm able to glance at the bigger mirror and see what is going on around me easier than the round ones. I had to take my eyes off the road longer to focus on the stock mirrors. I also found the round mirrors to have a lot of distortion in the mirrors.
I like the Honda rear rack, looks good and high quality. The install would have been faster if I had not dropped the washers 2 times, but it was not too bad of an install.
Thanks Samurider for your high quality service.

Oil Filler Cap

I am in the process of ordering on of the awesome retro "knurl" oil filler caps listed in the members products section from Greg. In reading the responses in that thread, I noticed some members expressing concern about being able to unscrew it without the "ear" to grasp, because of arthritic hands and fingers. I came across an aluminum cap by Motosculpt on EBay for about $16 shipped, that has grab ears, safety wire holes, and a 6mm allen key receiver hole in the center. So, this cap can be removed with fingers, or allen key. It is available in several anodized colors, including black, red, blue, and gold, with a new O ring included. Motosculpt caps are also listed on Amazon, but I could not find the same part number as listed on Ebay for our CB1100s there. At the moment my hands/fingers are fine, but if I had arthritis problems as some others do, this cap would be my second choice to Gregs awesome cap. As a side note, I keep a 3.5" square of old inner tube rubber in my tool box. It supplies a flexible grip with the right friction to grab things like Gregs cap if necessary, and plastic press on/pull off bolt covers. It is not thick enough to use with pliers to prevent plier marks, and is just for use with the hands. https://www.ebay.com/itm/MotoSculpt-Oil-...#vi-ilComp

ABS ring?

This looks like an ABS ring, but I know my 2013 CB1100 doesn't have ABS - for one think I've locked it up in a parking lot just to see how it handled.
Is it just easier/cheaper for them to leave it on bikes without the full system?

Honda parts may be expensive, but their lubricants are competitively priced.
Been researching Honda HP4S pure synthetic as an alternative to Castrol Power 1.
It appears to only be available in 10W-30...but maybe this brochure is not up-to-date?
https://powersports.honda.com/documents/...micals.pdf
If that is correct, and if I continue with Honda oil, the debate is synthetic 10W-30 versus GN4 10W-40 for 115F + ambient.

Checking the fasteners had similar results to my Triumph and Moto Guzzi.
Only a couple bolts/nuts moved a few degrees (upper shock bolts).
Good build quality and little vibration.
The Bonneville had outstanding build quality. The factory X-ring chain required one very minor adjustment at the first service (don't remember when I did it, maybe 800 miles). The Honda chain presently needs no adjustment and I did lube it, last week.
On the Triumph, I did not lube the X-ring chain until about 6,000 miles.
Then it was after its first coin-op car wash (before I get flack for that, it is NOT necessary to hold the nozzle very close to any part of the bike)
I avoided washing it (usually a hot towel wipe-down), but after taking it to my ranch (220 miles, last 8 miles a rocky dirt road and the last 3/4 mile a Jeep trail), it was filthy. Used the coin-op in Kingman, so it had a good dry for the remaining 120 miles home.
The CB is NOT going to the ranch. Love this bike!
