Decided to move on from my CB1100. Two years ago I was trying to decide between an MG V7, the CB1100 and the at-that-time all new Triumph Street Twin. I decided on the CB1100 Standard '14 because it was selling for an awesome price, and the Triumph was still a few months from arriving. Honda's reliability reputation was a big plus too.

Well, it grew on me and I came to really like it, but I'm one of the unlucky few to experience the high/low idle issue. I think I gave it a fair shot, and may have even found the trouble spot. The last 8 rides of 1/2 hour to two hours plus produced no problems.

Then I stopped in at the Triumph dealership, and there was the Street Twin, end of year price at $7995. No taxes in Oregon. No dealer setup/freight. No interest loan for 4 years. 500 mile first service free...even a green Triumph t-shirt. They offered me $4600 for the CB1100. Not the best, but...it needed valve inspection, the battery was 2 years old and maybe another 2 as the bike sat boxed up, had nearly 11,000 miles on the original tires, was due for oil/filter change. Seemed like the right time to pull the trigger as I was still unsure of the long-term idle issue with the CB1100.

Exciting to get a new bike that had interested me from awhile back, but I have to admit, sorry to let the CB go at the same time. I'll enjoy the Stree Twin for a year or two and then re-evaluate.

By that time maybe the CB1100RS blue or gold will be sold in the U.S. and maybe MSRP prices will plummet like they did for the '14 Standard, prolly not so much though.

BTW: I have a set of the LMAR8A-9S NGK spark plugs for sale. Jegs is currently selling them for $9, but I got them on sale for under $5 each. You know where to look.

Does anyone else have a problem with a high idle RPM on a cold start / cold day (< 55 f) ? My 2017 ex starts with a high idle that normalizes once engine heats up. No biggie but was wondering if this is normal.

I was just wondering what kind of oil everybody is running I have always ran the Honda oil and filter in all 3 of my bikes and was thinking about trying Amsoil has anybody ran this in their bikes.

Apparently I don't clean my bike enough because the family got me 5 liters of S-100 and 2 bottles of HondaBrite and a can of Plexus plastic polish..

Alright fellers...If I can't trust your opinions, who's can I trust? Although I love my CB, I've owned it now for 2.5 years and I'm getting the itch for something new. While I have no complaints on my CB l, perhaps the minor gripe I've got is that it feels a bit cruiserish to me. I think I'd like something a bit more nimble and sure footed in corners. As such, I'm thinkin mid-sized. Of the latest grouping (Honda CB650F, Yamaha FZ7 & XSR700, Suzuki SV650) I gotta tell ya, while it seems like the boring unpopular choice, I like the SV! Here's my rationale, V-Twin, gear indicater, easy to install a slip on. None of the others can boast these advantages in my opinion. Should make the move? Will I regret it? Or, will I be happy? Give it me straight! Oh, and Merry Christmas gentleman.

I am very happy with it.

Lately I've been focused on losing some weight through diet and exercise. That in turn has me wondering about how I might also trim down my "pudgy CB" just a bit (I say that lovingly of course).

I know a lot of guys on this forum like to farkle but that often that seems to be more of an "additive" when it comes to the bike's overall weight. I'm curious if any of you have made a conscious attempt to move in the opposite direction — trimming weight from your CB1100 instead of adding to it. I know that some accessories actually do provide this benefit. For example many of the aftermarket exhaust systems available for the CB1100 provide decent weight savings. What other items have people found to help trim a bit of the fat from our bikes?
