With the recent discussion of skinny posts I'm trying to do my part. Also trying to rebuild the Seat Time section with detailed info and pics.

From Left to right: The orange 2 man tent will go on the lid of the top box. The zero degree sleeping bag (lows in the Powell area are projected to be 25 while I'm there) and Mexican blanket/inflatable sleeping pad and pillow/cooking gear/food etc. will go box inside the top box. The MSR and water bottles will go in the panniers (MSR on the left away from the exhaust and water bottles in the right.) Trying to keep the heaviest stuff low for center of gravity. Most everything I'm hauling with me is shown except for some small odds and ends and clothing items like extra socks. The Portable IPhone battery pack/charger will be placed under the seat and run by cable to phone. Right now the tank bag is empty but will fill up with jerky/dry salami/cheese/crackers/flask with single malt/small flashlight and headlamp.



I still have plenty of room on the seat in front of the box for a dry bag and could put on a backpack. However, that cavernous box precludes that (but it is nice to have that option to carry additional luxuries if I wanted to).



Inside of the box with zero degree bag on top of cooking gear/food. NOTE: Crown Royal bags contain gear. Very handy for that.

Yippee!! The handlebars and grips came today, so I'll be in the shop tomorrow changing handlebars. I really like using the 'search' function of this forum, I can read up on something and keep from going "where no man has gone before". So I'm aware of the trick handlebar weights Honda incorporated in the oem bars and other details. I think I'll try the new bars w/o the weights first, and if need be, follow instructions found here to install the oem weights.

I'm changing handlebars to keep my wrists happy. The stock bars would be fine if they had another 2" of drop at the grips. As it is, the bars make my wrists feel angled upward at the outside, and if I stay on the bike long enough, that ol' carpal tunnel will flare up. The bars I'll install are Flanders "7/8" Flat Medium Tall Bar". I have an identical h/bar on my ol' Guzzi 850 T3, they are perfect for me.

Here's some pix of the bar, don't know if you'll be able to discern anything tho. Bars are hard to photograph to convey shape and angle and such.









The angle of the grip is such that the bar will be tipped forward, placing my hands a little lower than stock and prolly 2" forward, so that I'll lean in to the bars, and the wind.

I haven't been keeping close tabs on the modern retro motorcycle market lately so I'm not exactly sure what else is even available these days. Please note that I'm not referring to "retro styled" bikes or heavily retro influenced bikes. Besides the CB1100, what other motorcycles are still being offered new today that feature the following:

- single headlight up front
- analog gauges
- air-cooled engine
- relatively flat seat that can accommodate two people
- wheel sizes larger than the ubiquitous 17" configuration both fore and aft
- a pair of twin shocks in the back

Hey guys , got my road Comet fairing today after about a month after ordering . Opened it up and was amazed at the fit and finish of it. Def should be for the price of course ! Anyway I got it color matched to my black 14 standard , also added the matching stripes and tinted screen . I couldn’t be happier with it and am relieved because I was a little nervous with the cost etc but I think it worked out . I think it blows away my dart flyscreen

Mmmm hot Tea (while stopping to gas up)

I have been an on and off member of this forum (great forum) for a couple of years or so. I had been interested in a 13/14 1100, and more recently the 2017 EX and RS. As in properly interested - ready to sign the cheque.

I visited several UK dealers who conveyed the following:

1. Disparaging comments about my Guzzi as a trade in (I didn't need a trade in, but was curious).
2. Portrayed the 1100 as a niche model: their customer base is interested in smaller bikes, or the Africa Twin.
3. No chance of a test ride.

The CB1100 is, in my humble opinion, a beautiful looking bike. I just hope I get to ride one day, because for now my (small, inconsequential)deal has gone to Triumph. Honda do not need my business, which is a greater pity to me than Honda - but I do think the members of this forum are riding a fabulous bike!

I will return (thus justifying Honda's treatment of me!).

It's morning on 23 December as I write. One more sleep until I'll have to get up in the night to help the fat, arthritic bloke out of the chimney and listen to the usual mutterings about the wrong address.

There's a bit more to do between now and then. So, I thought I'd take this opportunity to wish all members of the forum a very merry Christmas and a happy, safe and prosperous 2018.
