I just ordered a set of 2017 CB1100 forks for my 2014 CB1100 Dlx. I own the factory service manual for my 2014, but I would like to avoid buying a new FSM just to know how to work on the 2017 forks. Is there anyone out there who could scan the chapter of their 2017 FSM related to the forks and provide it to me? I would really appreciate it. Thank you.

Can anybody provide me specs (mfgr, brand, sizes) for a matched pair of tires that "might be similar" to my old Michelin PR3's?

Currently have Pirelli Angel GT tires that are close to done at 7000 cross country highway miles. PR3's looked better at 8000 miles than these Pirellis (also wore more evenly ... not flat down the middle).

FYI, the PR3's that I ran before were 110/80ZR-18 on front and 160/60ZR-18 on rear.

So I picked up 736's Rabid Transit fairing but some work had to be done. Not sure exactly how old the fairing is; rough guess is between 40 & 50 years old. So the wiring harness was non-existant and needed to be recreated. That went fairly seamlessly.

However; they used a nylon rivet nut for all the fasteners to thread into and I only found them from suppliers in India and New Zealand. Or was it Oz? Metric only (not a deal breaker) so I went with metal Rivnuts. A bit of a blunder as they expected this sheet metal vs. thick fibreglass. Oops.

There was also the little matter of the holes being way too big for the given rivnut size I needed. Another Oops.

Oh well, riveted them to some sheet metal then epoxied that to the inside of the fairing and Bob was my uncle.

First test ride found the mirrors to be useless (seemed to be a given so no surprise) but the fairing had a very nasty vibration. Much greater in amplitude than the motor. So I got some Sorbathane washers and redid the mount where it attaches to the fairing - not vibration free but orders of magnitude better than before and livable.

Got some Emgo mirrors intended for a Honda CBR600 - I think - and mounted them up. They stick out a bit more and are vibration free to at least 80mph. Woot!

The lowers needed some work to make them clear the case savers. Busy work - and done.

It came with three instruments in the dash but I pulled them out - if I used them I needed them out to wire them since he had cut the wires and were not using them. I have some EMT metal plugs in there now but I intend to wire up a voltage meter/USB charger in one so I can plug in my Android phone I use as a GPS.

I messed up the supplied wind screen so I have ordered a smoked one to replace it. I also ordered some windscreen vents from Craig Vetter. I need to address this low pressure zone right behind the fairing.

Couple more tweaks I'd like to do along the way as the mood moves me. But for now it's about 90% done.
A better angle to show how it looks on a red bike (not too shabby I think) and to show what the original mirrors looked like. Very sexy looking, but they did not show me stuff in back I need to see.

Just returned from Fast Bike Industries (David Behrend) and ordered new Ohlins shocks for my 2017.
As on my other bikes I ordered the chrome springs and one grade higher because of my weight.
The price is just under $1000 , do I need them , probably not but they give me a smoother ride and look nice.

Dave is now the Nitron importer for the USA , very nice shocks as well.
His business is only about 12 miles from my home and I have know Dave for years , he is very knowledgeable about suspension.

made yesterday a testdrive....round 250km

its very funny so long you have nobody behind you......but its super comfortable this seatposition and of course the seat....

max 90km/h but only in the plain and without against wind .....(crouching and with homesick backwind too 115-120km/h says the jounalists)......only 4 gears the 4 is only as overdrive or for in the village for very low rpm.......70km/h is most no problem to reach but all higher speeds...smile...

i need only 1.62l per 100km....and the tank has 5.6l......

Yesterday I took my wife to Charleston SC (in CRV) and on the way back on I 26 a rear tire from a tractor trailer in front of my suddenly exploded with big parts of the tire hitting my SUV.
I was very lucky that their was not a big accident because of this . Driver and I stopped and the damage is over $ 1500 on my 2017 CRV.
If a bike had been behind the truck it would have been curtains for the rider, we were doing over 70 and no room to move over because heavy traffic.
Retreads on truck tires can go any time , you see them all over the Interstates , perhaps they should be illegal.

Recently returned from out Colorado way and was somewhat puzzled that the CB seemed to be running fine but just didn't have the power or throttle response it should. I pulled over for a bit and then as I continued on the engine seemed to gradually get back to normal. Two years ago I had an overnight mini-stroke, which affected face muscles for about 10 days.

Three weeks ago, I think I had another overnight mini-stroke, which affected the lateral rectus muscle of my right eye. I am not debilitated, as my dad did well for 91 years with sight only in his left eye (doctor slipped with forceps, at his birth).

I did a 460 mile solo trip on the Extraterrestrial Highway on Friday and rode with a friend (Vrod) on a 420 mile ride, yesterday, to Cedar Breaks (10,300 feet elevation) and Zion National Park.

However, it is probably wise to discontinue riding. I called the Honda sales manager who handled the deal and he is interested in the bike, but I do not yet know at what price.

It was first put into service (out of the crate) Nov 7, 2017.

I now have 12,200 miles on it and a detailed service record (see bottom for excerpt). Plan to change oil and filter, next week after ride along Lake Mead on Monday.

New scrambler tires one month ago.

Zero issues...best bike I have ever owned (#17)...could not be happier.

Some here might have caught a recent post in which yours truly commented with measured displeasure on a 700+km riding day, ending in 4° (Celsius scale) temperature, in rain that can't quite decide if it should turn into sleet or not...

What was I thinking while riding? I'll tell you:

"You fool, you could be riding right now somewhere in the sunny Mediterranean, perhaps up and down the east coast of the northern Adriatic..."

It took a couple of weeks to make it happen.

A friend offered his bike while he was otherwise engaged. The bike was something quite pedestrian, certainly when compared with our cb1100-s, but I decided it deserves a word of praise. But first, a couple of photos documenting what I would call "a few days of roughing it in Croatia". Tough gig, but if someone had to do it, why not I?

On the two-lane highway, winding south along the coast, somewhere near of the town of Senj. Deep blue sea on the right (west), Velebit mountain limestone and sparse Mediterranean vegetation on the left (east, the photo is looking north):


Ferry connections with the islands are plentiful, sailings are regular and frequent, and the fares are more than reasonable:


On those ferries, there's always room for another motorcycle. Bikes generally don't wait in line with the cars, but wait on the side to be waived to board as the deck chief decides there is a good nook that could be filled:

From a quick side-trip to about 700 meters above the sea level, on the Velebit mountain. No special reason to do it - other than to catch a few minutes of cool breeze coming down the mountain when the coast is baked in the mid-day sun:

Finally, a few words about the motorcycle. Here she is:


If somehow there was to be only one model of motorcycle left on the Earth, I believe this should be it. It is not best at anything, but it is darn good at just about everything. Honda CBF600N, this one a 2008. Six speed, 600 cc liquid cooled I4. A de-tuned Hornet, but with more than enough power to deal with spots of traffic, competent in the curves, with comfortable, upright riding position, good for a long day in the saddle. Last produced in 2014, I believe. Quite popular in Europe, never sold in North America in the naked form, although Honda had it in Canada in half-faired version, where it did not sell well at all.

If I had to, I could spend the rest of my days with this bike. I'm quite sure the one I rode on this trip (65K km on its odo) would outlive me...

decided yesterday to sell my bike again and excepted $10,500 today
I know i will miss it as i have so many others but i think it is time to ride motorcycles less and get back to enjoying my 4 wheeled toys. besides i am such a babe magnet in my sports car and annoyed by prospectors while the country girls want a ride in my Model A ford truck ;]
What i will miss more than the bike is this forum because it has been hands down the nicest group of people i have ever virtually met .
