  tightening a helmet
Posted by: misterprofessionality - 09-18-2018, 09:24 AM - Forum: Riding Gear - Replies (23)

Not even sure if this is possible, just a theory, but has anybody had experience with making a helmet fit much tighter by upgrading/thickening the padding? I have a helmet that I like, but it's probably a little loose. the looseness didn't bother me until I attached my helmet cam and saw that the video is very shaky at higher speeds, due to the wind jostling the helmet constantly. the helmet is snug enough to be safe, but I'd like to keep my video nice and stable so that i can read license plates when somebody inevitably tries to kill me.

so, is snugging up a helmet by increasing the pad thickness a thing I can do or is that not possible? Has anybody ever done this?

   Replacing gas tank,needs some tips.

I’ve gone through the factory service manual but wanted to ask about any unforeseen problems disconnecting the fuel lines. Do I need to get any spare parts incase some of the plastic disconnect fittings break? This is for a 2014 Standard.

Perfect CB1100 for me Has the following....
Posted by: griffbl_imp - 09-17-2018, 04:42 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (16)

I love the looks of the Black 2014 CB1100, as I love the alloy 5? spoke alloy wheels, the seat, 6-speed, Four into one exhaust, and, well, it is Black! I just wished it also had ABS, which is Mandatory for me. So that rules out a 2013 DlX, as a 6 speed is also mandatory. A 2017 Deluxe has ABS, 6 speed, and a LED headlight (which I don't think is on the 2014's?), but it also has the spoked classic wheels and 2x2 exhaust as original equipment, neither of which I like. If I go the 2017 Deluxe CB1100 route, I would then choose to procure the alloy wheels and either the factory 2014 Four into One Exhaust setup or maybe a Yoshi pipe. Not a very inexpensive route. Questions: 1) will the alloy 2014 5 spoke (ten actual spokes, but they look like 5 twin spokes to me) work with the ABS brake setup, disks, etc. on the 2017? 2) did the 2014 have an LED headlight? And, finally, 3) what is the best way for me to get an ABS, 6 speed, four into one factory exhaust, and spoked wheels equipped CB1100? I can live with red of course, which looks infinitely easier given my preferences, it is just that I prefer black. I can also live without an LED headlight, as that is rather minor. I could always address that with a different bulb in all likelihood.

Many
Thanks!

  Saluting oncoming riders?
Posted by: MaFiHa_imp - 09-16-2018, 05:37 PM - Forum: Motorcycling - General - Replies (35)

Hi.

I'm wondering if it is worldwide that motor cyclist salute to oncoming
riders?
In Germany, I think 80 % of the riders do.
Is it a "German thing"?
Or is it a European thing?
Or is it a motor cycle riding thing?!

Bike Shut Off While Riding Today
Posted by: Johnny62087_imp - 09-16-2018, 04:28 PM - Forum: Mechanical & Technical - Replies (16)

Hello! Hello I'm new to the forum, but not new to the CB100 or bikes in general. Been a long time lurker on this forum. I bought my 2014 EX new in 2014 and have never had a single issue until today.

*My "performance" mods*
Yoshimura Drag 4-1
Powercommander 5
TSR Filter Horn
TSR Velocity Stacks (The ones that are larger and replace the oem ones.)

The bike has ~7,500 miles and the mods have been on for about 6,500 of those miles.

So here's how it went. I haven't had the bike out for about a month, the battery wasn't completely flat, but didn't have enough juice to start. Threw it on the charger while I got ready and it fired up no problem. I jumped on and rode for about 45 minutes on my way to meet up with some friends. I was at a light and when it turned green and I took off the bike shut off. Struggled to restart, seemed to be running a cylinder down. Was smoking out the exhaust! Huh

I got to a place where I could pull over and it died again. Got it to start and it was chugging and still smoking out the exhaust. No CEL, no nothing. I pulled the air filter out to see if there was oil inside and there was not. I thought maybe blow-by or something was the cause. My friends showed up and it fired right up and ran fine. Got to where we were going and it died and would not restart and the battery died.

Went and got my truck, got the bike home. Pulled the plugs, they look normal, slightly grey/black with a lighter colored center. And the best part is they're not clogged with aluminum so the engine doesn't seem to be grenading. Silver lining Tongue There seems to be fuel in the exhaust. I have the Yoshimura Drag setup and it was leaking out of the big single joint under the bike. I cranked the bike with the plugs out, the cylinders don't seem to be flooding. Reinstalled them, the bike fires up and runs/idles just fine. Tons of smoke rolling out the exhaust, both the end, and at the joints as the pipes and cat heat up. That was an hour ago, it's too late to be out in the barn, waking the neighbors.

I searched on here and on google and nothing like this came up. So here we are. Has anyone experienced something similar? Any tips on what to check? I'm obviously not going to ride for a while until I can correctly diagnose/recreate the culprit. No DTCs are showing up. I've had PCV's on other bikes and I've never had them lose a map or reset when the battery dies. I've never had that erratic idle problem. I'll have time this week to go out and check all the connectors, make sure everything is making good connection. I have a voltmeter so if there's something I can throw the leads on for more info I have no problem with that.

I did fall victim to that K&N filter shenanigans last summer. 0/10 would NOT recommend haha. My pants, boots, and the entire bike got COVERED in oil. The nut on the filter came completely off when I went over some railroad tracks. Immediately shut her down and coasted into a parking lot in neutral. Walked 5 miles home to get my truck and ramps. Dodgy

And here is how she looks all cleaned up.

Thanks in advance! Hope someone can lend some advice.

  Do 2014 side covers fit a 2013?
Posted by: Frulk_imp - 09-15-2018, 11:41 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (5)

I’m looking to put some red side covers on my 2013 and wondered if the 2014s fit. If that was the case I’d give my local dealer some business and order them there.

  INSTALLED: Rox Pivoting Riser 2" rise x 7/8 stem clamp x 7/8 " handlebar

Greetings to you CB1100 aficianados,
Been a while since I last said peek-a-boo but here I am letting you know from Sudbury Ontario that my second season on this bike has been truly enjoyable. Not one issue to complain about. Find myself more often exploring and using the the 4 - 6 thousand rev range where the bike seems to wake up and want more. Recently installed these Rox Risers I was lucky enough to find locally. Two inches, I'm afraid can and does make a big difference much to my chagrin. It. was tricky installing these as there is a sequence to when you snug and and when you tighten. Here are some pics...BTW the seat is the K&H Low and the flyscreen is a Dart Marlin.

  Speedometer Allen Head screw loose
Posted by: mhicks17_imp - 09-15-2018, 01:10 PM - Forum: Mechanical & Technical - Replies (1)

Any idea if the dealership adjusts/installs the speedometer during setup? I purchased a “new” ‘14 Std 450 miles ago and the allen head screws underneath the speedometer case was loose and rattling today.
