Just rolled 47500 on the cb1100 on the original chain and sprockets. I got new tires and the mechanic noticed it was starting to kink a little, so we ordered new chain and sprockets. The I asked to see the old sprocket and it had lots of life left the teeth were actually quite comparable to the new sprocket. My CTX the chain was done at 22k and the sprocket wear was very noticeable. I also got 37k out of the brake pads which was significantly better than ctx as well. The ctx was about the same weight but half the power. I also ride the cb harder than the ctx, but the complements lasted much longer. I even did two track days on those brake pads and chain/sprockets which is punishment the ctx never saw. Tires are a different story, I got way more miles out of the ctx rubber....

Are the OEM chain/sprockets that much better between the two bikes?

What did you get out of your first set of brake pads, chain sprockets????

Hey, Do CB1100s not come with a tool kit under the seat anymore? Asked the dealer and he said not any longer. All other bikes I've owned had a basic kit, and the Goldwing had a large plastic case full of tools needed for basic work. What the heck?

I am a long time Samsung Android user. I recently upgraded from a Galaxy S5 to a Note 8. Love the new phone, and the horsepower increase has been amazing. I am looking for advice on using my old phone as a redneck GPS on my new street bike. Here is my plan, let me know if this will work or what set up/free apps would work better. I want to use Goolge Maps as my app if possible. I want to hang my old S5 from my bars using a secure RAM mount The S5 no longer has a SIM card, so l need WiFi and/or Bluetooth to connect. I would like to use my Note 8 as a hot spot for my S5 when on the bike to allow Google Maps to work. Is this possible? What wireless connection works best between 2 phones? Wifi or Bluetooth? What say you?

I decided to split out the rear end build into it's own thread. The Ducati 1198SP rear end is in. The chain lines up nicely with the wheel centered. Just got the Ohlins suspension and linkage today and that even fits! It's better to be lucky than good. See the pictures.

I just have to figure out the static sag and get close with the ride height, The Ducati even has an adjustable ride height link that I can us for fine tuning. I do have to weld in the suspension pivot but there is plenty of room. I will need to add the cone air filter in place of the secondary air box, but that will look great I think.

I am getting excited.

Pulled the trigger today on a "new" 2017 CB1100 EX. Traded in my trusty 06 ST1300 and of course didn't get what I wanted, but they had discounted the CB down to $9950. so I had to go for it.
I'd begun to notice that I wasn't riding my ST as well anymore, so felt it was time to downsize to a lighter, more controllable bike.
The ride home was amazing, banishing any buyers remorse I may have had. Fit, finish and that motor just blow me away. The bike is smoother than a mink jock strap.

For various reasons, i'm looking closely at replacing my headlight bracket. There are a couple of solid aftermarket brackets, but I've run across this one from Moriwaki:

they look like they'd serve my purposes perfectly, but the description on Webike states that it only works for CB1100RS/EX-17. I know there are a couple of members on the forum who own both the '14/13 and the '17, so would anybody mind giving me some insight as to what the difference between headlight mounting on the '17 and the '14 might be? for the life of me, I can't see any reason why this shouldn't work on a '14, but I defer to the people who know better.

The problem: Speedo reading 10-15% optomistic.

Theory - speedo reading off the rear wheel sensor - so any sprocket changes should (in my mind) make no difference to the speedometer reading

What I did: I went one tooth down on the front sprocket and one tooth up on the rear sprocket in order to get easier launches when riding two up. Which is most of the time lately. So that geared the bike down about 10%
As per the above assumptions is didn't expect to see any difference in the speedometer reading

Anyone know of an easy correction - or do i just live with it?

Picked up this 1986 Yamaha Fazer from the original owner yesterday.

And this 2005 Vmax from Paulibiker in Iowa a couple weeks ago. I'm still waiting for the Vmax to show up. It should be here in the next couple days.

Went to Harley Demo Days and rode a Sport Glide, Harley's latest addition to their softail line released in 2018 1/2. I kinda fell in love with it. The comfort, the instantly removable paniers and mini batwing fairing and of course that 107 Milwaukee engine. In short, a very different ride than the CB1100 which I love too. Turns out the demo is the color I would want and they are very motivated to sell it as it has 650Km on it (which I am uneasy about). When I bought my CB, it had 0Km. The paperwork will be ready to sign on Monday when presumably I will take possession of the Harley and say goodbye to the 2016 CB1100. I can only have one bike at a time as I live in an apartment complex.
A cool but sunny day here in Sudbury Ontario and I was out on the CB all day getting as much as I could before she's gone. The more I rode, the more I appreciated what a great bike she is, maybe all the more because our time is short. What am I doing trading in the CB for a bike that will cost more to maintain and service, take more room beside the shed where my CB is currently parked and have me making a monthly Harley payment? I rationalize it this way: At 66, I figure, notwithstanding the unforseen that I have about ten good years of riding, hopefully more and if I want a more touring oriented bike I will have to make payments because precious time is slipping away. Despite this rationalization, I can't sleep tonight mulling all this over.
