It's a point and shoot, but with a nice 40x optical zoom. My I-phone 6 takes decent enough photos, but I found myself wanting something a bit more to capture shots of my CB1100. I'm about 50% sure of a long trip this summer and I figured a new camera would nudge that certainty up to at least 60, maybe even 70%.

Which means I had to test it out on my CB1100. Which means I had to give it a chain cleaning and then wash n wax from head to toe so that it would presentable.

With my I-phone, Mt. Hood just tended to appear as a tiny white mound in the distance with this same distance / angle, but this is much better:

I wash my bike good 2x per year, sometimes skipping the spring cleaning. When I do go at it, I tend to go overboard and clean in / around / up n down, sideways...probably takes 4-5 hours after degreasing, cleaning chain, prewash, wipe down, re-wash with soap and warm water, spong-bath like, blow dry then shammie dry, then remove mini scratches and swirls, then wax. It's all just vanity, but I do enjoy it--never feels like a chore. It was pretty filthy from a number of Nov / Dec rain rides, but I don't mind the time with the bike. Gives me a chance to re-acquaint myself with its inner beauty and the chance to look things over good.



The camera's macro can get about 1 cm away. I think I may have missed a spot on that chain.

The pipes were gross...carcasses from last June mixed with those from fall...ugh. Some very fine steel wool and wd-40 made quick work of the goo. Feels like a new bike...keeps me from looking : )

Fun little camera. Size of the phone, but twice as thick. Buttons are a bit too small, but as I get familiar I hope to do some nice shots. I am no camera expert, but it's nice to have something a bit "more". I find myself pouring over maps of the northern states. Never been to North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin. I'm hopeful.

Ok, this isn't a review of an actual piece of riding gear, but I've always been amused by regular fashion styles that are meant to mimic motorcycle gear, or the motorcycle culture. I can definitely see the allure, as we, as riders, are supposed to be so much cooler than the general population.

So, I had to laugh when I unwrapped the pants shown here on my birthday this past Sunday. I usually wear very loose, and admittedly shlubby looking sweats around the house, and don't bother changing into anything nicer if I have to jump in the car to run a quick errand. My wife decided that I needed much more stylish lounging pants.

They are much more tightly fitted to the legs, feature some sewn-on panels that look like reinforcements, and have a rather sleek zipper pouch on one side.

My wife explained that these are called "Moto-Joggers", and are apparently quite fashionable for household loungewear. And, to her, much less embarrasing to wear outside the home than my baggy sweats. I will appease her by wearing them.

She also got me the cool Lebowski shirt, which, coincidentally, goes along with my recent avatar.

I had done other forays 40-80 miles since I bought the bike recently, but I did one of the loops that I do in San Diego Co. that is from Vista up 15 to 76 to 79 (Lake Henshaw "T") to Santa Ysabel through to Ramona to 67 down the hill to Rancho Bernardo and back up 15 to 78 or Deer Springs road back to Vista. The reason I mention this is because I am in need of a hip replacement so it is very painful to ride. But darn it, I am going to keep on riding until I have that replacement. I did improve the gas mileage as I had originally put in high octane gas and the bike does not like that at all. So, it is 87 octane all the way. And I put in a K&N air filter and that made a big difference with the Delkevic mini 8". A Puig flyscreen and bar end mirrors plus tailbag round out the "improvements" that I have done to suit me. The bike is a good performer and goes through the turns very well and brakes superbly. The one thing that I did that helps to alleviate the pain is to put SW-Motech highway pegs as the same ones I did on my Gen 1 FZ1 (Yamaha). I was starting to get the very bad arthritis at that time which is more than 8+ years ago. Back on the freeway 80+mph seems to be a the limit for comfort but it will do it and then some. A perfect 2nd bike to my Guzzi...

So I finished my CB1100 "effort to maintain" video and posted it up on YouTube. I thought I would do one as I had to give it a going over anyway.

Owners on this forum will already know the information it contains and I'm not trying to teach granny how to suck eggs here.

The intention was to give a prospective owner an idea of what it means to own the CB from a servicing perspective. Hopefully it comes across as positive as it is meant to be.

I put my other bike, the BMW, on CycleTrader yesterday, and have already had two scammers contact me. They both exhibited classic scammer behavior, i.e., "I can't come see the bike because...military deployed, work commitments, etc., and they both wanted to use a complicated procedure to pay for and take possession of the bike. I shot them both down in flames, but I hope someone really wants to buy a great bike.

Honda (marketing dept) seems to have a habit of not promoting/pushing their bikes. A-la CB1100. I’ve just discovered a bike called Fury and IMO is a real looker. Didn’t even know it existed. Never ever seen one. It seems they were only in the UK around 2010/2011 so that’s probably why. Does anyone have one or have they ridden one, what’s it like?

I have a '17EX and took off the seat today and noticed an unfortunate scatch / scrape / wear spot on my tank:


Thought "what the heck?!, how did that get there?" Then I placed the seat back on w/out snapping into place to see what might be the cause. I slid my finger under the front edge of the seat and could feel one of the seat staples protruding out a bit more than the others and this lined up exactly with the wear on the tank.

This is ironic because I actully keep a piece of cloth between edge of seat and tank because from the beginning I noticed the edge of the seat was making chicken feet mini-scratches in the paint, but the cloth towel slipped away. Last time I had the seat off was probably last summer in August--I'm sure this scratch was not there then, so it has been within the last 6 months.

Anyway, the scratch has make it to bare tank. Fortunately, it is out of sight. But to protect it doesn't fingernail polish act as a clear coat? Don't want rust to start.

Something I could / should let Honda know about? Bike is still uner 5 year warranty.

If you own an 17'EX type of tank, you might check the staples on the leading edge, and if they protrude at all, tap them back in.

First ride out on the RS today, just to get some petrol but I absent mindedly took a wrong turn out of the petrol station and ended up having to do 40 miles to get back home! Silly me.

Roads were greasy and damp and bloody filthy! A bit cool too. But the bike was an absolute delight to ride. Despite being a more aggressive posture, I got no wrist, shoulder or neck pains. The seat was as hard as I remember from my 2013 model (which I replaced with one from Samurider), but as I was canted forward, it was not painful this time.

Loving the roll on power from any revs – absolutely delicious and very addictive. Suspension is set up ok for me, certainly feels better than the NC750 I had before, turns into corners nice and smartly too.

Sounds gorgeous too, much rumblier and more 'fruity' than I've been used to, with the occasional crackle and pop too. Wonderful.

A bit 'reluctant' to go from 4th to 3rd maybe? We'll see how that goes, hopefully it will smooth out with more miles.

Clutchless up and down shifts are a breeze but the clutch is nicely '2-finger' light anyway.

Absolutely love the view forward over the dials and the clip-on appearing handlebars – proper cafe racer. Just need to find some cafes that are open now. Sometime in April that'll be – maybe.





I've also put up some historical photos relating to where I live, a place called Warsash, that sits at the mouth of the River Hamble.

We've got the monuments for the Commandos who departed from here on the eve of D-Day (there's also one for the Canadian troops at Lee on the Solent, I'll get a snap next time I'm passing and post it)





..and the 'hard' where Royal Navy frigates HMS Peruvian, HMS Theban, HMS Hotspur and HMS Laurel were built and launched over 200 years ago – they're the uninspiring green 'planks' you see. Still here after all those years.



About 2 miles up the Hamble (to the right, or should that be starboard, of these pics) is the final resting place of Henry V's flagship the Grace Dieu, burnt to the waterline nigh on 600 years ago.

I ordered a set of the black round bar end mirrors, a bit under $200 NZD delivered, when they arrive I will post a couple of pics and my impressions.

I don't hate the stock mirrors, but my view is mostly elbow, and these look like they adjust outwards (and inwards for filtering) so worth a shot!
