New camera means... - pdedse - 01-14-2021

...more photos!

Just yesterday I received a new [url=https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0735LP2G1/ref=sspa_dk_detail_1?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B0735LP2G1&pd_rd_w=41b2F&pf_rd_p=811154a9-44b1-49f2-9177-84495098de64&pd_rd_wg=w5Gxl&pf_rd_r=1N9FAQFW5ZZ81G807VY0&pd_rd_r=c25dd6bc-96a2-4e15-b540-9ee1cbff9950&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUFQVzlUV0c2WFE2WVkmZW5jcnlwdGVkSWQ9QTAyOTgxODZZMUMyRVRUQ0EzOEUmZW5jcnlwdGVkQWRJZD1BMDI0NjgyNjNTMFZMOUVNWTQ4MjImd2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9kZXRhaWxfdGhlbWF0aWMmYWN0aW9uPWNsaWNrUmVkaXJlY3QmZG9Ob3RMb2dDbGljaz10cnVl]Canon Powershot sx740 camera. It's a point and shoot, but with a nice 40x optical zoom. My I-phone 6 takes decent enough photos, but I found myself wanting something a bit more to capture shots of my CB1100. I'm about 50% sure of a long trip this summer and I figured a new camera would nudge that certainty up to at least 60, maybe even 70%.

Which means I had to test it out on my CB1100. Which means I had to give it a chain cleaning and then wash n wax from head to toe so that it would presentable.

With my I-phone, Mt. Hood just tended to appear as a tiny white mound in the distance with this same distance / angle, but this is much better:

A bit closer:

Let's see what the zoom can do:

Very acceptable for me:

All taken from the same spot, across the road from where my bike was parked.

I wash my bike good 2x per year, sometimes skipping the spring cleaning. When I do go at it, I tend to go overboard and clean in / around / up n down, sideways...probably takes 4-5 hours after degreasing, cleaning chain, prewash, wipe down, re-wash with soap and warm water, spong-bath like, blow dry then shammie dry, then remove mini scratches and swirls, then wax. It's all just vanity, but I do enjoy it--never feels like a chore. It was pretty filthy from a number of Nov / Dec rain rides, but I don't mind the time with the bike. Gives me a chance to re-acquaint myself with its inner beauty and the chance to look things over good.

The camera's macro can get about 1 cm away. I think I may have missed a spot on that chain.

Start the washing all over!

The pipes were gross...carcasses from last June mixed with those from fall...ugh. Some very fine steel wool and wd-40 made quick work of the goo. Feels like a new bike...keeps me from looking : )

The wax smells like cherry...so yummy and fitting:

My pick-up is such a show-off
[Image: a23020fdf3f0a4a97835689dfadea030.jpg]

The closeups with blurred background...couldn't get that with my I-phone

Fun little camera. Size of the phone, but twice as thick. Buttons are a bit too small, but as I get familiar I hope to do some nice shots. I am no camera expert, but it's nice to have something a bit "more". I find myself pouring over maps of the northern states. Never been to North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin. I'm hopeful.

RE: New camera means... - Gone in 60 - 01-14-2021

Wow, those pics look great! I'm resigned to the Iphone and just committing beautiful stuff to memory.

Yesterday I got a distress call from my Mom, who said her car was dead. I took off after work to fix it, heading south toward San Diego on I5. Right around the beach in San Onofre, I saw several cars pulled to the shoulder, with everyone standing outside. I turned back to look, and it was the most beautiful pure red sunset over the ocean I had ever seen. I wished I had a good camera, and didn't bother to pull over, knowing that anything I could take with my phone wouldn't do it justice.

Good on you for cleaning the bike! Feels good, doesn't it?

Pd, your link takes me to a Panasonic camera. I think this one is yours: [url=https://www.amazon.com/Canon-PowerShot-Digital-Camera-Optical/dp/B07FXXVC74/ref=sr_1_3?crid=2FDGPQ3G7X4J2&dchild=1&keywords=canon+powershot+sx740&qid=1610676642&s=electronics&sprefix=canon+powershot+sx740%2Celectronics%2C330&sr=1-3]https://www.amazon.com/Canon-PowerShot-D...330&sr=1-3

Nice job Lord. There's the 40x optical zoom camera.

pdedse - some very nice specimens indeed. Happy shooting!

That's funny! I was looking at that Panasonic camera too, and I think I selected the wrong link when my browser address bar dropped down to show where I had been. Thanks for the correct link. The Canon can be as low as $320 with no extras, but I bought one with extra battery, cam case, SD card, cables, lens cleaner / protector, etc. for around $370 something.

Thanks, someone will have to let me know if I overdo the photos, but I really like seeing the CB1100 in photos in road reports, day trips, in different parts of the world.

Yep, that's what made me want to try a regular camera again instead of phone.

It does! I know the bike won't stay perfect forever, but it's kind of cool to take it from all grungy looking to bright and shiny. It wasa gorgeous day, nearly felt warm riding.

Now the rains, maybe snow return for this weekend.

RE: New camera means... - max - 01-14-2021

That's funny Pdedse, i got the same canon camera last year, have it in my pocket all the time, just small enough to carry, not obtrusive and good for low angle shots with the flipped up screen.
Even did some america's cup video with it but that was just too far away to be useful other than "been there too" shots, good colours and now you have to stand further away from the bike to get those far away shots, welcome to "bokeh" land.

Oh and ferret; i shrunk the exhaust on the cb1000, looks better now eh?

10 mtrs away from the bike, congratulationsThumbs Up
