I've been using 91 from the git-go. The bike runs awesomely on it so I am loathe to go back to 87. I wonder if it does provide more power; I know many engines these days have knock sensors and can advance the ignition automagically to take advantage of the higher octane. My FJ Cruiser had this but no way would I pay a fortune for fuel in that thing. 17 mpg average. They said you got about 15 more horse with 91, though. Matter of fact I will try it in the FZ8 next couple tanks.

Leave them or take them off? If they were faded and cracked it would add to the retro look.

Took mine off right away because once they get baked in, no way will they come off.

We have a cabin up near Mt. Hood here in Oregon that is about 45 miles from our house. I'm usually driving the truck hauling this, that or the other when we head out there. This weekend my family headed out early, so I opted for the CB1100 instead. Weather was perfect with temps in the low 70's and plenty of sunshine. I'd normally opt for nothing but rural roads almost all the way out, but this time around I split my route about half and half between rural roads and state highway. The ride out to the cabin was perfect and it was a great weekend. Went fly fishing with my son for the first time ever this morning after getting him a rod & reel for his birthday earlier this year. (I just took up the sport last year.) The wife, son and dogs headed back home in the automobile while I enjoyed another ride on the CB, this time fighting a strong headwind most of the way back. At least the breeze felt good. Once again, the bike returned 53 mpg, same as the last time I checked my mileage with mostly highway riding. Not bad at all. This bike feels so smooth going down the road. It's a great commuter bike around town, but it sure is nice getting it out on the open road.

I recently noticed that Hyperpro was listed amongst the vendors on one of the Japanese sites so I thought I would investigate a bit further for info to share with the forum. Hyperpro is a Dutch manufacturer of high-end steering dampers and suspension components. They offer a few different options for the CB1100 — from straightforward emulsion style shocks to piggyback units featuring separate controls for high and low speed compression as well as rebound damping (their 3 D shocks). Their shocks are built to order per your weight and riding style needs. Hyperpro also also offers upgraded spring kits for the front suspension. For those in the States, more information can be found here: http://www.epmperf.com. Their stuff isn't cheap (similar to Ohlins), and I have no personal experience with them. But it does look like an option worth investigating for those so inclined.

Anyone replaced shocks yet? Or know of a good replacement?

Has anyone bought anything from Pirates Lair Motorcycle Accessories? Just curious because they are offering the Stain tune slip on for $830. This price includes the shipping. Jerry, the owner, just e-mailed me back and said the price was still good.

Took my daughter out for the day for a really good mix of coastal canyons, surface streets, and freeway. This bike is excellent, motor like a turbine, very comfy. A Corbin seat with backrest and a better pair of rear shocks will be all it needs make it near-perfect.
