Posted by: CIP57_imp - 12-19-2013, 05:30 AM - Forum: Other Bikes - Replies (7)

When i first saw pic's of the new F6B i didn't care much for it. We'll i just saw one in the restaurant across the street from me and my thoughts have changed. Spoke with the owner who let me sit on her. What a nice bike. Very light feel for a bike this size and love the low seat height. I have the itch and interest Confused this could be trouble.

I was at the dealership service dept. yesterday to order a new mirror under warranty. The original one is bleeding glue under the glass. While I was there Dave, the service manager, asked to look my bike over. I said sure, and he inspected the chrome, especially under the fenders.

According to Dave, two CB owners have come in with serious corrosion issues. In particular the undersides of the fenders seem to be a problem area. Dave said one guy lives on the beach and didn't maintain his bike, but the other guy lives out west and his bike looked good aside from the chrome.

Also according to Dave, Honda is not replacing the corroded parts under warranty. I'm a little surprised at that; I thought there were government standards for vehicle corrosion performance. Maybe that's for cars and trucks only.

Keep your bike clean, even the "up and underneath" parts. Consider wax or another coating on areas like the fenders undersides. If you live up north and ride on salty roads (ferret!) be sure to get that salt coating off ASAP.

I'm not sure how many days I have gotten to ride so far in Dec. I know we had terrible cold weather for about 10 days, I snow plowed on Dec 6, 9, 10, and 16th, waited all day for a plumber that never showed on the 11th and babysat my Grandson Riley on the 13th. So .. haven't ridden much.

Today the sun popped out. By 2;00 the thermometer had climbed to above freezing ... just barely.
[url=http://smg.photobucket.com/user/theferret111/media/Dec18026_zps6c85db6a.jpg.html][Image: 287abace97a115a01960e4fccfb3f8a2.jpg]

Time for a ride. Disconnected the CB from the battery tender and rolled her out into the sun. She fired right off.

snow was still piled in grassy areas
[url=http://smg.photobucket.com/user/theferret111/media/Dec18027_zps78a404c1.jpg.html][Image: 200ff79af6b19cb6f299b0e2cc67b6e8.jpg]

I had hoped to hit 7000 miles on the CB this year and I was getting close when the weather turned sour. A quick check showed I still had 135 miles to go. Maybe I could knock some of that out today

[url=http://smg.photobucket.com/user/theferret111/media/Dec18030_zpsfbab2e34.jpg.html][Image: e96c4961021d754f1924fd42a6a8238c.jpg]

Threw on some cold weather gear and took off

[url=http://smg.photobucket.com/user/theferret111/media/Dec18033_zpse8333389.jpg.html][Image: c4afba7e38f45dd2f7cafa1f8809477e.jpg]

The ride felt good. The roads were mostly clear, some patches of residual snow that I suspect had fallen off of cars, some small patches of ice in low places, and too much salt residue.The only scary moment I had, which wasn't bad, was crossing over a bridge over a creek that runs to the Ohio river. It was wet and slippery looking but I rolled over it ok.

I rode for exactly an hour, and had covered 42 miles. The only thing that really got cold was the finger tips on my throttle hand.

by the time I got home it has gone up to almost 36 degrees wooooooo heat wave

[url=http://smg.photobucket.com/user/theferret111/media/Dec18036_zpsf13a0830.jpg.html][Image: b3c1e983f036b873f3a642a23e1cb565.jpg]

the salt residue made a mess out of my rims which I will have to hose off.

[url=http://smg.photobucket.com/user/theferret111/media/Dec18035_zps541af0d6.jpg.html][Image: 7f59c8e4285c7ca04c9c42e1a871ab00.jpg]

Now only 93 miles from my goal, with 12 days or so to go. Tomorrow is supposed to be even nice than today and a bit warmer, so who knows, may knock out that last 93 tomorrow.

  Mirror Extensions
Posted by: Gingersdaddy_imp - 12-18-2013, 07:35 AM - Forum: Accessories/Modifications - Replies (9)

I like the stock mirrors, but I can't just glance at the mirrors and get a clear view. I see a good part of my shoulder and have to move my head around to see behind me. It wasn't too bad until I started wearing the armored jacket. Anyone using mirror extenders? If so what type and brand do you think is best?
I just tried re-adjusting the mirror arms a little but that was not enough to make a difference. I did look on Amazon and found a few, but not sure if they will work on the CB11.Huh

I also blacked-out the rear signal side grips and cleaned-up the liscense plate bracket. Low-type Honda CB1100 handlebars on the bench next.

Heated grips or heated gloves? Had a BMW once with heated grips but I never rode the bike in weather requiring I use them. I tried them once and thought "man these things get HOT"

Obviously gloves for multiple bike use but just wondered what those of you who have had both think of the grips as compared to the gloves.

Might also give opinions of which gloves if you have found advantages of one particular brand. If you think gloves the way to go.

  License Plate Question
Posted by: CB4ME_imp - 12-17-2013, 11:30 PM - Forum: Mechanical & Technical - Replies (10)

I ordered a rear fender from Takashi and gave him my license plate mounting hole measurements. I got this response back:

Could you tell me the license plate detail dimension ?

・Height, Width of the license plate
・Diameter of the mounting hole.
・Distance between the mounting holes, 144mm?
・Distance between the mounting hole and edge of the license plate

Is the plate dimension different depending on the states(area)?

Chic Design and I want to solve the problem.
I very much appreciate your help.

I provided measurements of my Maryland tag and told him I thought motorcycle plate size was standarized in the US but would check with you guys.

So, is a 4" x 7" motorcycle license plate standard in all 50 states?
