What ball game? Well this weekend the Dodgers play the Diamondbacks at the Sydney Cricket Ground. It is the hottest ticket in town and I have one . The SCG is hallowed turf to most Aussies and a lot of money has been put into making it, for this game, a "ball park" for us to be proud of. Infield dirt, around 200 tons, imported from the US, mud from the Delaware river (?) to polish the balls with, traditional food etc etc etc. I live a short walk, 10 mins or so across Centennial Parklands, from the SCG, so lack of my CB to get me there is not a great problem. This is the first baseball game I will have been to so, after a quick browse around the net for the "rules", am really looking forward to the game. Maybe I can have an American beer and a giant hotdog with "the works", plus the "crackerjack", whatever that is, as well.

There is one thing that intrigues me though. The Dodgers' catcher has been quoted as saying that he "wants all his pitchers to be wearing blindfolds when they are out there shagging". What does this mean? Doesn't he realise that this sort of thing is not routinely practised in public places in Australia. Can I risk taking my 9 year old god-son to the game????

After a few hectic weeks (and weekends) at work, I decided to take the day off. Most of it was spent catching up on backed up chores and errands. About 2:00 PM, I was all done. I had time on my hands, great weather (about 80F) and a CB1100. All the ingredients required for an impromptu road trip.

I didn't have any particular place I wanted to go. I just wanted to spend some quality time on the CB11, preferably in the mountains. I decided to ride out to Salt River Canyon. A nice ride through the mountains, about 125 miles each way.

I left early enough to beat the Friday afternoon traffic jams and was in the foothills by 2:45. I just followed U.S. 60 east out of town and kept on going. It started getting a bit chilly as I approached 4,000 ft. Luckily, had a heavy flannel shirt in my backpack and some warmer gloves.

Stopped in Queen Creek Canyon between Superior and Globe to snap a pic of the Queen Creek tunnel. One of only two highway tunnels in AZ.


After a few hours on the road I descended down the winding road to the bottom of the canyon.


Spent a little time wandering around the river before hopping back on the bike and heading home.


Overall, it was a great way to waste an afternoon and about $15 bucks in gas.

The only real excitement came as I was riding the last 30 miles down the freeway, directly into the setting sun. Visibility was rough, especially with plenty of bugs on my visor. I had just moved left to pass a pickup truck that was hauling a 9 ft. couch. The couch was too long for the bed, so one end was propped on top of the cab. Just as I moved left to pass, the forward end of the couch lifted up off the cab. One of the large cushions flew off and missed my head by about a foot (at 75mph). As I watched from a few feet away, the whole couch caught the wind and flipped right out of the bed of the truck. The moron hadn't used a single rope or strap to tie it down.

I'm not sure what happened after that. There was fairly heavy traffic behind moving at 75 mph, with poor forward visibility. I'd be amazed if it didn't cause a minor pileup. All I could tell for sure was that most of the traffic behind me wasn't there anymore. How do people this dumb manage to get a license to drive? Sheesh!

Anyway, fun was had, gas was burned and I still have two more days off

I made this comment below in regard to sixth gear and it got me thinking. Many of you and myself yearn for a one bike does all. Some not so much as you have a style of riding you like and your bike does it perfect.
I has a 650gsxf (originally bought as a spare bike to keep at a beach condo) I used as single do all duty for a while after realizing its versatility. But style wise. Wanted more retro.
I choose to have multiple bikes for now.
But if it was one. What would it be???
What is your ultimate Swiss army equivalent in a moto?

Depends on the riders opinion I suppose. I personally find 6th gear not necessary but if someone was wanting to do some more touring or significant highway driving I would imagine it would be helpful. People will use this bike for a wide range of riding but I'd think there would be better choices for touring or highway driving.

My cb is really an around towner and short day ride duty. For other rides I'd pick one of its stable mates. I suppose with a 6th gear one could really make it a one bike does all. Sort of. Depending how comfy the cb would be on long rides.
My wife and I did a fairly intense ride for just a few hours and she remarked our other bike (sport tour) being much more comfortable for her on a ride like that.

I'm getting close to a purchase this year and -- like a few others -- can't believe Honda hasn't provided for ANY passenger backrest/pillion/sissy bar. I love the bike, but am also looking at a Triumph Thunderbird, which comes with world-class passenger comfort and lumbar support. Really, honda, NOTHING? We have to construct one for you? Please, please advise, before I have to pass this beautiful bike up. It means a lot to me to have my wife and/or son ride in comfort with me.

Anyone have any info on the gear ratios of the '14's?

Is the new 6th gear basically an overdrive? Or only slightly higher, with the lower gears re-spread?

Also, has anyone gear their CB11 up higher? It's generally been my experience that a larger engine can handle it just fine, gets better mileage, and even the speedometer becomes more accurate.

The aluminum sprocket cover from 2014 CB fits the 2013. However the bottom mounting hole does not line up.



This may be a show stopper for some of you thinking about swapping out their plastic covers.

I’m going to use some blue Loctite on the top 2 mounting bolts and get a nut and lock washer to secure the bottom bolt to the cover. I’m confident the cover will stay in place. It looks light years better than the plastic cover, especially the black cover that comes on US 2013s.

I found this clip a week or so ago, unfortunately i haven't figured out how to embed it or link it. Search: Good Boy en Honda CB1100 versus Bad Seed, it is worth it. Puts a smile on my face every time i watch it and for those of us of a certain vintage, it should bring back some special memories. It's in French, but you'll get the drift.

Anybody have experience removing front signals and headlamp shell? What's the proper sequential order doing so?
