I have been putting off getting extra keys cut for the CBs and have always hidden one under my vehicles over the years just in case. Just last year, I was 100 miles from home and locked the keys in the truck. Of course, it had snowed the night before and I had to crawl around in that mess to retrieve the extra key but it was better than having to call someone.

Just wondering if any of you other guys have done this and where might be a good place to hide an extra key? I dont think I have HISS so I dont think it will be a problem getting my locksmith to make me a spare. I always used those little magnetic boxes for cars but looking for ideas on a motorcycle.

I was recently researching some LED headlight options to brighten up the front and increase visibility to other motorists. I often read while an LED bulb gave off more light, beam length and dispersion varied depending on the type of reflector housing and shape of the bulb. Rather than chance LED and install another relay, I went the most certain route and purchased a Piaa H4 Extreme White Plus 55watt halogen bulb. Piaa part number 15224. Same actual wattage as stock) I actually bought a 2 pack for $55 w/free shipping off eBay as I installed one in my 08 VTX1800 T as well. It accomplishes exactly what I was looking to do with an easy install. Take a look at before & after photos. It's a whiter, longer casting beam. Almost has an HID look. 15"+ of snow will prevent a road test until Spring buy it passed the "garage test" .

Cycle World is doing a Ride For Kids promotion and put together this groovy Spencer Replica using the CB1100 as a starting point. American Honda donated the donor bike. Cool stuff!

I can still remember my pulse rising after reading the first sentence, not to mention the photo. I can also remember how cheated I felt by the last sentence.

My CB1100 arrived at the dealer exactly 3 years to the day after this article was written. I got the call that I could come pick it up the next day. Good stuff.

For me, the photo of Capos 1970 T120 illustrates why I think Honda was wise not to try to recreate any one specific design from the past. The look of the current Bonneville pales in comparison to the originals. The proportions just aren't right. The beautiful lines of that 1970 bike are lost in the new bikes with their bulbous tanks, oddly angled pipes and larger engines. The models sporting 17" wheels look worse to my eye than the T100s. Not because of the spokes, but because the size of the wheel/tire just throws the balance off that much more. Keep in mind that I consider the Triumphs of the late 60s to be some of the most beautiful bikes ever built. Simply awesome looking machines. So Triumph set their own design bar really high. I also happen to be pretty particular about stuff like this.

Those of you who have been around this forum for a while are familiar with the fact that I'm not too crazy about the look of the larger tank on the CB1100 deluxe. Same deal - the lines of the tank pass muster in some photos, but in others the curves just look bloated. I would be hard pressed to find a photo of that 1970 T120 that didn't look darn near perfect to me from almost any angle. Stunning machine.
Before I come across as being too hard on today's retro standards, I would add that I still find these designs more attractive than the alternatives. The Bonneville of today is still a more attractive bike to me than say the Daytona 675. Things just start to fall apart for me a bit when the comparison to the looks of the old bikes comes into play.

There are tons of great bikes there only a few of which they bring to the U.S. The CB1300 Bold'ro looks awesome! Kind of a modern take on the CB1100 with the addition of a nice fairing.

And if I had a ten year old son (I did but that was 18 years ago), I'd probably want to buy him an Ape 50 which is very much like the Honda Trail 50 I started on.

Anyone else notice anything there that catches your fancy?

Planning to paint my 14 dlx headlight & gauge mounts Candy Alizarin red. Color Rite wants $89.40 for a 1/2 pint of the red & base coat. $178.80 is pretty pricey, but if it's the only choice, then I'll have to pay it. I haven't check Honda yet. Any suggestions ? Thanks, Rocket

I was talking to a Indian Motorcycle dealer today and he said that only older riders bought CB1100 motorcycles and that they were slow sellers. I was in shock !! I was just hurt !! I was insulted !! I thought older riders were in their 80's. I have met a few. It seems like everytime someone comes out with something NEW that it was made for the younger folk. But, the (older people) are the ones doing the buying ! When are these company's going to learn !! The folk's in the 50's and 60's are the one's with the money. Riding motorcycles is my hobby !! And I have payed my dues. I still have my right to ride anything that I want !! Let me decide DUDE !! Not someone barely out of collage. Oh well, I just plan on riding for as long as the Lord Jesus lets me !!!

Which other Honda Motorcycle might be a good donor ?

One reason is, I want to ride her on the track and there is not really a lot of sticky rubber in 18" out there ....
