I have just raised my pressure in the front.. now I am running 40 lbs in the front and 42 lbs in the rear.. I don't have many miles on that front shinko, so we will see if it makes a difference in tire wear.. I have 200 miles or so on the pr3, so now I don't have to baby it.. so far, it feels great ..

standard pressure is 36 front and 42 rear for most tires. 2 lbs is too much to let pressure fall. 4 lbs off in front tire and it will melt quickly on a hot abrasive road. in one of your posts you had the pressures reversed i think. 4x front and 3x rear. 3x in rear and it's toast in no time. so if 42 is proper rear pressure and you let it go to 38, yes, half the life probably. 38 in front will help with mileage. 40 to fight cupping. 42 in rear is standard, and I haven't heard of anyone going over that in the rear. I weigh 200 lbs also and run 40 both ends. I do pump rear up to 42 for long rides.

it must have been a type-o .. I always aim for 42 lbs in the rear and 36 lbs in the front.. I will stay with the factory recommended 42 in the rear and try 40 in the front..

I've been experimenting with slightly higher psi's lately to preserve the tire profile -- 39/45 f/r, instead of the recommended 36/42. No issues.

thats good to know.. this way, if your tire pressures drop a couple of pounds, you are still at the recommended pressures.. I wonder how the higher pressures affect grip on the road.. maybe lessening the contact patch a little.. the patch is pretty small to start with..

It's likely I don't ride as aggressively as you, so if the higher psi is compromising the contact patch, I certainly don't feel it.

well... it is time for my Michelin pr-3 report.. the mileage I got was far from what I was hoping for.. because of all the good mileage reports from you guys, I hadn't kept a close eye on my rear pr-3.. just mainly my front shinko777.. wow, what a surprise !! .. I was starting to wonder if I may have had a broken swing arm bolt, like mentioned in one of the postings, but no.. I bought my cb1100ex in nov of 2018 brand new.. these are the miles I have gotten on my rear tires since new...
original dunlop D-205 ..... 2700 miles
first rear shinko777 ..........2650 miles
second rear shinko ...........2650 miles
Michelin pr-3 ...................3864 miles
total miles on bike ..........11864 miles
I have a FOBO t.p.m.s. and keep my pressures up.. I think it is the abrasive road I ride, most all of the time..
chuckk ..

It must be your roads and/or road heat? Those numbers are dismal. I am still on my original '14 Bridgestone OEM rear tire; lots of tread, no cracks (weirdly incredible), and no garage storage.
In regards to Dunlop, my '18 (2019) mule has 12000 kms on the rear and it is toast and is already cracking - front tire too!
Chuck: What's on the rear now - another PR-3 or a PR-4?

yes G.O. another pr-3.. I will probably continue with the michelins just because they give me more mileage than the shinko's and I don't like changing rear tires that much.. I will be staying with the shinko's on the front.. I like the looks of them and get the best mileage.. that will be coming up in another shinko report in a month or so, when I replace my front tire..
