Helmet lock removal
#1
2014 CB1100 Std. Some jerk who stole my glove liners and sunglasses from one of my saddlebags recently also found and took my hidden key. Probably would have taken my helmet if they could have hidden it. I went to Ace Hardware to have another key cut, but they did not have the proper blank. Think he said it was Ilco 70T14. My question is "How is the helmet/seat lock assembly fastened to the cycle? I found uninstall/install for the ignition switch, but nothing for the helmet lock, as the guy at Ace said maybe I should have the locks re-keyed, which requires the lock to be disassembled. (Trying to save as much money as possible by doing the locks R/R myself.) Otherwise, the jerk might be watching for me to park again, then ride off with my bike.

The tumbler is the same as a tumbler in the U-lock. Look here for what it looks like and how it is assembled. I do not know how to get one out after it is inserted. Unless a locksmith can remove it, you may have to buy a new tumbler and set it up to your key. It isn't hard though.

This is good data to keep for future use. What I am dealing with is I have the locks but one of my keys went missing. I have a cheap work around, however. Gonna pad lock the rear rotor when I park at MexiMart. The wheel won't turn much. If someone is willing to push the cycle with the rear wheel locked or pick it up with a wrecker, they want it more than me. I'll take the insurance money and buy something else. Locksmith wants an arm and leg to re-key or remove locks and re-key; even more expensive. He says he politely refuses to make a key for the Harleys which are brought in, as he is assuming they were stolen. Fortunately, I didn't have to buy a pad lock as I already have a spare.
BTW, the helmet lock assembly can be bought for $37 plus 2 new bolts and shipping, which would provide 2 flat keys that may could be used for re-keying the gas lock and ignition switch. Removal on a 2014 looks complicated and there are 2 bolts which are supposed to be replaced to hold the ignition switch hardware in place. The headlight bucket and wiring inside have to be removed/disconnected first, in order to access those bolts. I don't think that's going to happen with my bike.

White dog, I wonder if you just buy a tumbler for a U-lock (which you buy separately by the way), drill out the tumbler on the bike, and install the new keyed to your key tumbler.

The tumblers are made of pot metal with a chrome cover that you see.

The U-lock and tumbler are not available in the US. I had to order mine from Japan. I have 2. One from Webike and one from Mr. T.

If you decide to try this, make sure you look at that U-Lock thread and order the right type for your key.

Again, "What I am dealing with is I have the locks but one of my keys went missing." I would first need new keys in order to re-key my present locks.
