  Tire pressure?
Posted by: memphismike_imp - 06-24-2016, 02:03 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (16)

Have the Battle Ax tires on the bike. The info sticker on swing arm suggest 36/front 42/rear. Just checked my pressure. Looked like dealer probably put 30/front, 36/rear. What do you guys run in yours? I am right 200Lbs and never rude 2-up. Thanks

  The OBSERVED Valve Clearance thread
Posted by: Pterodactyl_imp - 06-23-2016, 07:13 PM - Forum: Mechanical & Technical - Replies (162)

Since I have joined this forum I have seen numerous threads and posts relating to valve clearance. There has been much discussion on how to, when, or even if this check is even necessary. What I would like to do is keep this thread constrained to OBSERVED VALVE CLEARANCE and avoid ANY discussion other than that. Model and mileage? Yes. Previosly shimed? Might be useful. Vin number? Up to you. I would rather you did not post comment on the oil you use, where the best burger in Peoria, PA can be found, or wether your mother-in-law rides a Road King. However I am a realist, if you really must, go ahead.

Model: '10.

Clearance specifications:

EX: 0.28 +/- 0.03 mm (0.011 +/- 0.001 in)

IN: 0.15 +/- 0.03 mm (0.006 +/- 0.001 in)

Mileage: 74000kms (46000miles) .

Previously shimed? Yes at 12000kms (8000miles).

The first number is the left side valve of the pair.

OBSERVED CLEARANCES

Cylinder #1

EX: .28 mm .28 mm

IN: .16 mm .12 mm

Cylinder #2

EX: .26 mm .26 mm

IN: .14 mm .13 mm

Cylinder #3

EX: .27 mm .28 mm

IN: .16 mm .13 mm

Cylinder #4

EX: .26 mm .26 mm

IN: .15 mm .18 mm

  Parking Garages: no motorcycle allowed?
Posted by: EarsOnWheels_imp - 06-23-2016, 10:59 AM - Forum: Motorcycling - General - Replies (24)

Went to Baltimore yesterday to visit the USS Constellation near the Inner Harbor. Tried to park at three garages. All had "no motorcycles" displayed. Parked in the third one after I checked with an attendant.

I haven't seen this before. What gives? Anyone else encounter this before?

  Helmet lock removal
Posted by: White Dog_imp - 06-23-2016, 10:26 AM - Forum: Mechanical & Technical - Replies (4)

2014 CB1100 Std. Some jerk who stole my glove liners and sunglasses from one of my saddlebags recently also found and took my hidden key. Probably would have taken my helmet if they could have hidden it. I went to Ace Hardware to have another key cut, but they did not have the proper blank. Think he said it was Ilco 70T14. My question is "How is the helmet/seat lock assembly fastened to the cycle? I found uninstall/install for the ignition switch, but nothing for the helmet lock, as the guy at Ace said maybe I should have the locks re-keyed, which requires the lock to be disassembled. (Trying to save as much money as possible by doing the locks R/R myself.) Otherwise, the jerk might be watching for me to park again, then ride off with my bike.

  Rust and Corrosion
Posted by: WK57ABF_imp - 06-23-2016, 06:31 AM - Forum: Mechanical & Technical - Replies (16)

Took my white tank & silver side covers in for respray and the rust under the tank near the two forward location points surprised me. I was aware of rust around the filler neck on the tank and had it under control, also the rust on the steel fork brace and the oil cooler lines.

The aftermarket grab handle has rust on the welds also the rear view mirrors are both rusting and are covered in ACF50.

Fin rot on the engine continues to creep and is now appearing on the left hand side of the cylinder barrels. And, now I see rust on both ABS discs.

The bike was stored in a heated garage last winter and my wife wax polishes it twice a year.

It seems a rat bike is evolving before my very eyes with no help from me.
Still wouldn't part with her.

Need advice on CB1100 and other
Posted by: foxinsuit_imp - 06-22-2016, 08:45 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (41)

Hello,

I'm new to this forum. Have read plenty of threads, but have yet to participate Smile.

For HONDA CB1100 offer check out details and dropbox link below
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/168757vuztla2...-n3aa?dl=0

Looking to purchase my first motorcycle and would like to make as few mistakes as possible.

Will be posting the same on ZRX forum.

Design wise my favourites are ZRX1200 (green) and Honda CB1100. Would like to own them both someday, but that possibility is very slim due to budget. They both are currently out of my price range.

ZRX1200 ~4.5-5.5k EUROS; Honda CB1100 normally starts at 6.3k EUROS.

My first idea was to get Hornet 919 (great reviews) now for like 2.5-3k EUROS, ride it for 2-5 years and when the price and time is right - and buy the 'dream' motorcycle Honda CB1100 (or ZRX1200).

However recently I found out that ZRX1100 '00 is a great alternative to ZRX1200.
And it's cheaper.

Slightly above my budget (green costs~3-3.5k), but acceptable price increase comparing to my initial choice of Hornet 919, since I really really like the design of ZRX (could even say as much as CB1100)

My only doubts (and I'm googling and youtubing on this) are that ZRX1100 is an old bike. year ~2000. And it's not fuel injected. Therefore I will have to learn to clean the carburator Smile. Also I'm not sure of longevity of this bike. And buying used old bike is a risk at itself.

HERE are KAWASAKI'S:

NOW here‘s dillemma in my mind. There‘s an offer on 2013 CB1100 for 5.4k EUROS (asking price, maybe I could negotiate some). Mileage only under 3000km according to seller.

To my knowledge it was in an accident and as a result of that it has a scratched FUEL TANK, and on mudguard. Though it's hard to see anything significant in pictures. It is an ABS model. Has custom seat and handlebar (don‘t know what kind though, and if it's for the better). I also notice sliders, and engine cover which is nice addition.

Haven‘t seen this bike in person, BUT it‘s 350km away. Meanwhile KAWASAKIS are ~2000km away (I would have them shipped for like 300euros, and would be having a leap of faith, that they are what the sellers describe they are).
I wouldn‘t consider this bike if it wasn‘t for the price. It‘s still way way over my budget (at least 50% more). And something that I should not let myself to afford, but heart wants want the heart wants....

Here are the pics.

P.S. Where I live I get to experience all 4 weather seasons  this only allows me to ride 2-4months max per year. Also because there are seasons, the plus side of that is that during off season there are more bikes to choose from, and therefore their price is a lower. So I could buy one in autumn/winter. However this would rule out the riding for me until MAY 2017

  Battery beeping
Posted by: Chuck Bronson_imp - 06-22-2016, 02:35 PM - Forum: Mechanical & Technical - Replies (18)

My battery has died after replacing it with another battery my 2014 cb1100 came with that died out also. I thought the problem was my battery. I'm guessing now that it's my alternator. My issue is now that I hooked up a battery tender to the battery and it's starts beeping. A faint electronic beep. Beeps like three times and continues every couple of seconds. I can't tell if it's coming from the battery but it sounds in that area. Can some one tell me if they know what's going on or what it might be??
