Can anyone recommend any bar-end mirrors for the CB1100 Honda Type II bars? CRG makes some nice ones but they are not cheap and I don't know if they will fit. I don't mind coughing up the dough if I know they will work.

I know a bike with carburetors with old gas after sitting for a long period can gum up the jets and passages. The fix is usually rebuilding the carb and empty the tank and replace with fresh gas. What happens when a fuel injected bike sits for a long period of time and the gas gets old? What is the fix? New fuel injectors?

Is this BMW's answer to the Thruxton R?

Once every trip around the sun I take a trip less predictable with some friends of mine. We take nine days, pick a direction and proceed to get lost. Staying in budget motels in forgotten towns along the way, eating exotic fried foods and swimming in rotten eggs.

This time we hit the friendly border to the north and rode towards the rising sun. Following Highway 2 over the Cascades meeting up with Highway 20 until it's end just before Idaho. Headed north again and through some forests to a land fit for tolls and fairies called Lake Koocanusa. Here we started to catch some very chilly rain that started to creep to our bones. We called it a day in a gateway town for the night with plans to cross Glacier National Park the next day and head down onto the high plains of Montana.

Montana makes me think of what Mad Max would be like as a cowboy. An aging population holding on to the past makes for good conversation at the bar with swastikas carved into it and covered with lacquer to preserve hate. Not that I would judge such a fantastically, beautiful area by one bar. The rock fetching dog reminded us to keep it simple as we continued on our way.

We wound south in Montana to get around the snow that has boxed us in. Deciding that we have successfully wasted enough time on the road to head back west.

So many little passes, some with fire damage. Great medium paced riding without traffic.

The new seat was great, we weren't putting the hours down that some do, about 300 miles a day overall. I felt like I could have gone all day without an issue. I give it 5 stars.

without draining the oil first, will I get oil draining out the filter hole? I want to switch out my K&N filter (it is slightly leaking around the nut on top, dangit) but my oil is pretty fresh and I don't want to waste it. So, how deep is that oil?
And to add to the question... I have six Honda filters that I got with the bike. They all have different part numbers, so I called the Honda dealer down the road and asked if any were the proper one. He said that there are only two filters that Honda ever made. A small one like our bike takes and a big one that works on some older bikes. So all these I have on hand are the same, though they have different part numbers on them. Is that true? I hope...
He also said that some oil would leak out but if I left the filler cap on and hurried, I wouldn't lose much oil. We shall see about that

There is a poster put out by Aerostich company, makers of fine motorcycle gear and accessories in which they list the number of days possible for a person to ride in a given local wearing aerostitch gear with the parameters being a high of 95 degrees and a low of 25 degrees.

It's fun to see how many days would be possible to ride in differing areas of the country. Of course San Fran clocks a perfect 365. How lucky you guys are to live there from a motorcyclists perspective.

Some areas are suprising to me. Portland suprised me with 358 (only 7 days outside of those parameters. Never knew Portland was that temperate. Phoenix 214 (151 days out of those paramaters.) That suprised me as well because I thought the weather was pretty good there. You guys must get too many days over 95.

Where I live Aerostitch says 308 days, which I think is pretty good considering we have actual winters lol (57 days out of the parameters)

I keep trying to hit the 308 mark, but usually fall short. Last year I think I rode 274 days. This year I am at 233 with 90 days possible remaining so there is hope lol. If winter comes late this year.. or isn't particularly brutal.

Headed out in 5 mins to make it 234.

I just got back from the first real ride on my '13 CB11. I live about 25 miles south of Lake Winnipesaukee in NH, and have often done this ride before breakfast on a weekend morning. For those who've been to The Weirs during Bike Week here, you've seen at least the west side of the lake ride, which I often ride counterclockwise for a slower start and a fast return.

Today it was threatening to rain, temps in the mid 50's. The low clouds and sharp visibility beneath them made for dramatic views of the lake and nearby foothills. I made today's run at noon, as there is little traffic this time of year- after Labor Day but just before Leaf Peeping peaks around the middle of the month.

In Wolfboro, a cafe on the water served up a zesty stew that I enjoyed alone on the deck. The harbor was flat as a millpond as a side-wheeler excursion boat arrived making little more wake than the loon swimming nearby.

There are just enough country stores and gas stations along the way for me to stop and stuff my gloves on top of the engine while I wrap my hands around a cup of coffee when needed, and with my new CB, the gloves come out oil-free. (this is my first bike less than about 30 years old.)

The home stretch is about 30 miles of state route 11, which is mostly fast and straight, some of it alongside the lake, but there are plenty of options for alternate side loops on both sides of the lake, and I've never ridden it the same way twice. Today's side trip involved a road I'd spotted on Google maps which was marked 'closed in winter'; Winter's coming, better do it now. It turned out to be mostly paved, with steep bits at either end, and as picturesque as any.

Stayed tuned for a Round Sebago Lake report if the weather stays reasonably mild.

So I took the CB out today and when I came off the road to get gas, I noticed a very distinct 'whine' coming from the drivetrain. You can clearly hear the whine towards the end of this video. It doesn't seem to be coming from the engine because blipping the throttle does nothing. It's coming from the drivetrain and is noticed in the attached as I'm slowing down in a parking lot with no throttle. The bike has 3300 miles on it and, yes, I checked the oil this am and it was fine. Suggestions as to what it is? It ruined my ride today and I guess i'll take it to the dealer in a week or so. Bummer!!!! I was looking forward to today all week!
