  CB1100 Meets JenningsGP
Posted by: johnf514_imp - 11-18-2016, 05:02 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (9)

Saw the Laguna Seca thread and thought I would make my own post.

Took the CB1100 to JenningsGP in Jennings, FL for a trackday with Orlando Yamaha Kawasaki on Oct 2nd. This is my fourth time at Jennings, first time with the CB. The other three track days were on a 2006 ZX-6R.

Lots of thumbs up from the supersport guys, and managed to keep up with my buddy on his S1000R (except for the +112mph back straight). Passed lots of novices and had the hard parts down earlier than I thought possible.

Bike ran great and pushed hard without any issues over six sessions. I love the tires I have on it now (Z8s) and will post pics of their wear below.

The CB1100 quickly finds its limits on the track, but has far more capability than meets the eye.
BTW keen eyed observers will notice the left sides of the tire exhibiting more wear than the right. JenningsGP has something like a 3:1 ratio of left:right turns.

Does the 4-2 exhaust from 2015 CB1100 EX fit model 2013?
Posted by: liamy715_imp - 11-18-2016, 01:55 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (7)

I have a 2013 CB1100, and I really like the four into two exhaust. Currently there's someone selling his OEM exhaust from his 2015 CB1100 EX. I'm wondering if it can fit my 2013 model?

  Oil analysis?
Posted by: Harry_Tuttle_imp - 11-17-2016, 10:31 PM - Forum: Mechanical & Technical - Replies (5)

A few months ago I dropped my CB1100 on a turn. The bike has been completely repaired and I'm okay with the exception of this bruise on my ego that won't heal.
I would like to start motoring the engine oil in case something happen when the bike dropped that is not intermediately noticeable, like abnormal wear.
My question is has anyone sent oil in for analysis? If so do you have any recommendation on what company to use. I currently have a BLACKSTONE laboratories kit in front me and before sending it wanted some input.

Thanks

If you didn't want me to track it, why'd you paint it red?
The diversity of this forum is one of the things that make it so great, imho.

OEM case guards: Anyone scrape down?
Posted by: Ulvetanna_imp - 11-17-2016, 03:49 PM - Forum: Accessories/Modifications - Replies (6)

I just installed the OEM engine guards. They look pretty nice; I can't quite calculate if they will scrape down sooner than without them, though. Looks like they might, but one would think Honda would have thought about that.

I reinstalled the stock three-foot long (seems like it) peg feelers just to be a little on the safe side. Looks like all should be well but if anyone has these and has experienced any touching down, I'd be interested to know.

Tall riders, exhaust etc. questions (looking for my 2nd bike)
Posted by: justinlself_imp - 11-17-2016, 01:35 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (22)

I come from 2 and a half years on a KLR. The high seat height and 90 degree knee bend from seat to pegs proved comfortable enough for an 11,000 mile trip to Alaska and back to Wisconsin this year. It was this trip I learned I really didn't have the patience for most off-road, so I'm looking at getting something different. My top three choices at the moment are in tune with the scrambler/classic standard style:

- Triumph Scrambler/Street Scrambler
- Ducati Scrambler/Desert Sled
- CB1100

I generally want an 80/20 on/off-road bike. I know the CB is nowhere "meant" to be offroad, but just something that'll do gravel and some very light trails if NEEDED. Here are my concerns/questions in order of priority:

1. For tall riders (6' 2" or so), how are you finding knee and leg comfort after hours in the saddle? My longest days on the KLR were 500 miles, but generally 10 maybe 12 hours with breaks along the way. I see Samurider has some excellent taller seat options, but I just don't know if that option is "enough" without being able to try it. What are the recommended footpegs that could be more forward an inch or two without compromising shift/brake lever feel (or is there a way to extend either of those?)

2. Best sounding exhaust options that won't break the bank? After my test ride of the CB, I seriously felt like I was on an electric bike it was too quiet.

3. Is there a compatible skidplate option or would that have to be a one-off fabrication?

4. On my KLR I had soft luggage that held a whopping 120 liters of storage. I don't expect that on the CB, but I don't want purse-size luggage on each side, either. What are some good options for a weekend trip that really fit the look too?

5. If you've ridden the Triumph Bonnevilles, scramblers or even the Ducati Scrambler, how would you compare the CB?

Thank you in advance! Beer

Dealer delivered my 2013 at noon. By 1:30 and 3 blocks from my house, I hit some fuel oil thanks to a tanker truck delivering heating oil, taking a 90 degree right turn. Within a second my bike was down on the ashphalt. I'm not sure about the loss of traction but I revisited the crash site and there were oil spots in the turn wasn't hurt but almost wished I were. Gas was leaking but it stopped once a Good Samaritan helped me pick up the bike.im wondering now if a fuel leak happened prior to the get off. Anyhow at least I could ride it home and no obvious physical injury thanks to gloves and a textile jacket. Damage to the bike, a bar end a mirror, the muffler, the rear brake pedal, the right side engine cover and inspection cap. Everything was fine and then it was like the rear tire hit an ice patch. So po'd I can't tell you. From pristine to crashed in 3 minutes. I've been riding for 50 years and I guess it was time for a crash. It still sucks. Anyone with a good Honda parts source, thank you in advance. Otherwise I'll find an aluminum repair shop for the engine side cover, replace the muffler with a slip on, but not before I straighten the rear brake pedal, check for fuel leaks, and try going around the block again!

  New used bike check list
Posted by: woodsparrow_imp - 11-17-2016, 05:30 AM - Forum: Mechanical & Technical - Replies (14)

So grabbed a 2013 bike from a guy for a really good deal. It's been neglected (it was a repo, battery was dead, it's been down once - scuffed cover and dented muffler) but no real damage.

I checked the sight glass and it looks to have no oil, so I'm going to do an oil change. It's got about 2.5k miles and I'm assuming no service has been done.

Going to be doing the aforementioned oil change, and a general chain clean/lube, as well as putting on a fender delete kit and installing some mirrors (it came with only one).

Already replaced the battery, but what else should I make sure to check while I'm working on it?

I haven't had a shop look at it because the bike itself doesn't look beat up, runs like a top, and only has 2.5k miles on it so I figured 'what could go wrong'.

  Seriously, can't this be fixed?

I keep getting this danged annoying message this morning whilst attempting to answer various posts:

Please correct the following errors before continuing:
You are trying to post a message too quickly after posting a previous message. Please wait 15 more seconds.

Must be the old man forum, expects everyone to be of the "hunt and peck" variety of typist, eh?ROFL

Also what of that "Click Here If You Don't Want to Wait Any Longer" stuff? I've waited for what seems like half an hour and the page never forwarded to my results or post.

Are these just a few techniques to keep the server from being overloaded?

I got a little rheumatiz in my right index finger knuckle and for real, I don't like to keep my hand hovering over the mouse any longer than necessary, if some of these options could be "adjusted" that might be cool.
Thanks

Rode my new CB1100 Home Yesterday
Posted by: suhawk305 - 11-17-2016, 01:38 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (28)

I ordered my new 2014 CB1100 Standard on November 1st, and I took delivery of the bike yesterday afternoon. I had the dealer order and install OEM rear carrier and engine guard. (I know I could have saved money doing this myself, but at least they gave me a little discount.) My salesperson Deb wisely went through the CB's controls with me knowing my riding experience is on my 1967 CB77 Superhawk since about 1973, and other Hondas before that. Another hint I needed direction resulted form my questions like "Where is the headlight on-off switch? What is it like riding with disc brakes vs drum brakes?" This is a time-warp shock experience for an old rider like me! Hitting the starter button and the bikes idles without fooling with a choke and throttle! The attached picture is me and my wife on my CB taken in front of Mavrix Motorsports, Middletown, NY, minutes prior to my maiden ride to my garage (about 16 miles, 26 km). I wanted to go the long way home, but the temperature was dropping fast (close to sundown), and the whitetail deer are in rut and unpredictable.
What an awesome experience for a guy like me! After a test drive on the dealership property, I hit the streets and then the rural roads to my home. I was surprised how nice the CB handles! Well balanced, good center of gravity, friendly throttle and I could not feel the road bumps that impacts my body when I ride my old CB77. I do need more practice getting used to a far superior braking system and handling 200 lbs, 91 kg plus more, especially in a fast maneuver/emergency situations. I am easy on the throttle, a few more ponies getting to the rear wheel! A ride is on my schedule today before a winter weather system hits the NE US this weekend. I love this bike and I hope to ride it as long as long I have been riding my old CB77 (that will be until I am almost 110 years old!)
