Does anyone on this forum have experience with a Can-am Spyder? My initial reaction was always "That's not a motorcycle" but lately I've been looking for a way for my wife to join me on rides. She has her MC endorsement but has never felt comfortable with anything on two wheels. I test-drove a Harley three-wheeler but don't think that's the solution for her; cornering was vastly different from a two-wheeler...

I've never driven a Spyder -- at least not yet -- but would like to hear any opinions -- good or bad. If I went this way for her, I'd be thinking used, in the $10-12K range, with automatic (paddle shift?) transmission.

Got to see the 2017 CB1100EX yesterday. My dealer got one in and sold it same day, ironically to the same guy I sold my Honda CB350F to many years ago. At least I got to look at it today. It is, as stated before by others, much better looking in person than in the pictures. The tank is still rather oddly shaped to me, but it would be hard to deny the richness of the paint. I was amazed at the number of changes to the bike and the only things left over from my bike ( the 14 dlx) would appear to be the motor and frame ( and even they may be different) and fenders. Nearly EVERYTHING else is different..wheels, forks, triple clamps, headlight, turn signals, instruments, caliper mounting, seat, taillight, side covers, exhaust, passenger peg mounting brackets, air cleaner covers. It is virtually a new model . Very nice.

I left a card with CB1100forum.com on it in his sales packet, so maybe he will stop in.

I took a bunch of comparison pics but been kind of busy and havent down loaded them yet.

Any good suggestions for a phone mount? Want something that does not block out the gear indicator display.

Why do some people recommend regular oil for the first oil change, then going to semi synthetic, and then full synthetic?
Doing my 600 mile service after my next ride. Got 520 on it now.
Will definitively be using 10w 30 though. I saw that thread!

Hi folks!

On June 27th (we hope), my brother-in-law on his BMW and I on my CB1100 (no windscreen and stock seat, by the way) will be attempting to complete a Saddle Sore/Lake Michigan 1000. We will be doing this ride to raise awareness and funds for an organization that assists adults with developmental disabilities. I have created a FB page on which you can follow our preparations for our trip as well as the trip itself, which will include GPS tracking, photos, and (hopefully) a few live FB feeds from the road. The plan will be to head out at about 3:00am on Tuesday, 6/27 and round the lake counter-clockwise. This should keep us out of Chicago traffic and get us out of the U.P. during daylight hours, drastically limiting our exposure to darkened roads.

Many, if not most, of the regular forum followers do not use Facebook. For them, I believe I will have a link to a site where you can follow my travels on that day. I will post that link on this thread once that page is set up and ready to go.

I will post updates on our trip preparation here in advance of the trip and I will also attempt (repeat, attempt) to post here during the trip.

Today I test rode a 2014 VFR 800. Had never ridden a VFR and always wanted to. Customer at my local shop traded a beaut in on a F6B so I got to ride his used one.
The good:

Good handling, light weight, good brakes, good trans, good handling, digital gear indicator

The bad: I'm a munchkin and still felt wadded up on the thing. If it had had reigns I imagined myself being a jockey whipping the steed toward the finish line. Vibrations..above 6500 rpms it vibrated especially thru the footpegs. Made my insteps tingle. Also a lot of weight on my wrists and the bars seemed weirdly angled.

The Neutral: I honestly could not tell where the Vtec kicked in. Not sure what I was supposed to feel, but Ive head sport riders complain about it. It never affected me one way or another.

I took it down a curvy road, a straight flat road, and out on the freeway. Tried to imagine it as a sport tourer. Nope.. No way for me anyway.

Glad I got to ride it, but was really happy to get back on my CB for the ride home (the long way )

So over many years I have had a lot of good road bikes but for some
reason I have always had this other "problem" .
There was the XT250 the Super Sherpa the 250 Ninja the VTR and on
and on and on. Even in the late 80s and 90s when I said I was going to
collect and restore - ya right . It was RD125s and RD200s ,DS7s .
I remember rebuilding a Road Toad just to see what it was like to ride.
I would never tell any one the money I spent rebuilding a GT380.
Well here is the next one Versys X 300. It is very different .
I am about the same size as the ferret and I can flat foot it with
shock set on low.
I will never get rid of the CB but I guess I am a little nuts.

in a speedy decision two weeks before the travel, we wanted to go to south England for one week. We startet with two friends in Hamburg, picked one buddy up in Düsseldorf, rode to Calais, took the fairy (P&O) to Dover and rode to Brighton where we met 2 english friends who joined in, so we were five in England.

On the first day in the evening, i´ve got seperated from the group and drove threw the "New Forest", an big area, several (sbout 10) miles big, where animals were living free, so i had to stop and wait until the pony stampede was over.


We lived in a cottage near Salisbury with several bedrooms, so there was enough place. It had a nice garden which was reaching until the river Avon.



Next day we visited the about 800 years old cathedral which hosted one of the four leftover exemplary of the magna charta. Which is one of the first written documents about the rights of some citizens and is said to be the fundament of many constitutions:

Next day to the Sammy Miller Museum for motorcycles. 83 years old Sammy Miller is on of the success-fullest championship winning motorcycle racer, in both road racing and trials. He is still working in his shop and restores old bikes and is still very fit.
In his astonishing collection of bike, there are many which are listed about 300.000 or more USD worth, especially the Brough Superiors:









The funny thing is, when we left the museum we sat outside for a while and met Sammy Miller. When he saw my CB100EX he asked me, which year this build was. I answered: "Last year" and he immediately jumped on my bike and smiled into the camera:

Next day we rode to Stonehenge which is near Salisbury:

It was hot and in hour bike clothes we sweated. We had to wander one hour around and after that we laid down on a bronze age grave hill and felled into sleep for a quarter of an hour. We woke up by tourist who also wandered around the area.
We rode around the south of England, the weather was marvelous...






Funny was that at least two people a day were asking me something about my bike, no one asked something about the bikes of my buddies (ok, one guy asked something about the VFR 750). One day i was waiting at a traffic light when a young couple turned down their window and said that the CB100EX is the most beautiful bike the ever seen.


On the last day we visited hastings and the small town battle where William the conqueror won in 1066 over the english king Harold when William invaded England from the Normandie. This is also something we learned in Germany as children in the school. We took a tour when the hot sun was burning on us within our bike clothes on the fields were the battle happened.









For me it was confusing that in the exhibition of the battle there were no artifacts and things they fond in the ground. As a student i also worked on excavations of bronze age graves and i know that there are always some findings, artifacts or something which is left, especially if there was such a big battle like in Hastings/Battle where it was stated that there fought about 15-20 thousands warriors. Therefore i asked the history staff and they told me that there indeed was no artifacts at all about that battle so i answered, if there was nothing found about the battle then there haven't been any battle at all. They argued with me for an half an hour and were very upset that someone doubted that there was a battle in the year 1066 but they couldn't prove anything. So we all were a little bit disappointed that they taught us all the years a wrong story.

But apart from that, it was a really lovely trip.

Until the last day where it was raining cats and dogs and we had to ride back several hours in the rain. Then it happened that my heated grip on my honda refused to work.

Starting tomorrow, the track layout is reverting back to the pre 2016 layout. The super slow chicane with different pavement is history after numerous rider complaints.

Saturday and Sunday results could be a lot different with the change.
