Bridgestone T30 as 11RS oem tyre.
Posted by: Macduff_imp - 07-16-2017, 07:01 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (1)

When I saw Honda had used Bridgestone T30 tyres on the CB1100RS I had expected that it would have been the Evo version. So I was surprised when I checked mine and found they had used the older spec non-Evo version. From what I can see the new version has a better claimed mileage and wet grip than the the plain T30. Confusingly Bridgestone still list the plain T30 as a current tyre and they also still list the now ancient BT-21 and its replacement the BT-23 which makes Sports touring tyre range is a touch crowded and confusing.
In someways I'm happy they chose to fit an older spec tyre as I can use it to in a man maths justification for swapping to something current like a Metz R01.

  Portland Cars and Coffee Event
Posted by: Guth_imp - 07-15-2017, 11:56 AM - Forum: Other Bikes - Replies (22)

Okay, I understand that some of you might be asking why is Guth writing about an event titled "Cars and Coffee"? That's a fair question. I was turned on to this event after taking possession of our Honda S2000 and I really enjoyed myself looking over all of the amazing cars and having other folks asking me questions about the S2000. The thing is, this event has a different "theme" every week and this weeks theme was "Motorcycles" — and motorcycles they definitely had, lots of them. Now most of these bikes were newer examples, but I always dig the beauty of the older bikes so I tend to favor those when shooting photos.

As impressive as the lineup of bikes was today, it's nothing compared to the cars that this event draws in every week. It is incredible, hundreds of amazing cars every week. But today was a great day for a ride and this event was a great excuse to go for a ride (like one is really needed) and it was well worth the time invested. As an added bonus, just as I was getting ready to start up my bike to head out, a 2014 CB1100 came rolling in. I was able to say hello to the owner and learned that he occasionally spends time here on the forum (I didn't catch his forum user name). Anyway, it was nice meeting you today.

Hope you guys enjoy the photos...

  Bike shipping
Posted by: Cormanus - 07-15-2017, 09:48 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (7)

In 2015, Pterodactyl and I flew to the US and rented a couple of bikes to attend the first CB1100 Forum Rally in North Carolina. It was a fabulous experience. The bike rental was around AU$2,000 for a week, and it was well worth it.

Yesterday I discovered [url=http://getrouted.com.au/]GetRouted* which tells me I could ship my bike to the US for around AU$3,500 and be allowed to ride it for 6 months on my Australian registration. Ironically, though, only 3 months on my Australian licence. So, for more than 2 weeks US motorcycling, it would be a fantastic deal. The cost to take the bike to the UK and Europe is around the same and just under AU$2,000 to New Zealand.

I must say, it's very tempting.

I haven't explored it, but these guys may well be amendable to doing the whole business backwards so you could bring a bike to Australia for an extended trip and save a shed load on rental.

*I don't think this term has quite the same meaning in North America as in Australia.

Dynojet Wide Band 2, PCV and Autotune
Posted by: beardyweirdy@me.com_imp - 07-15-2017, 08:54 AM - Forum: Mechanical & Technical - Replies (16)

Hey All,

I've just taken delivery of a Dynojet Wide Band 2 Commander to run in tandem with my PCV.

It's supposed to work like the Autotune but is also able to adjust the closed loop AFR by feeding a signal to the ECU.

It tricks the ECU into adjusting the closed Loop AFR by sending it a signal via the cable from the, now redundant, Narrow Band O2 sensor that was fitted as std. (The Wide Band 2 uses it's own Bosch O2 Sensor that replaces the OEM one)

So, I have control of the Closed Loop AF and can adjust it, but to what? And to what ends?

Any idea what the Closed Loop AF should ideally be?
I have a gauge, so I can get a reading of what it is now.

Is it in fact a good idea to adjust it?

I get a fair amount of popping on the overrun, I'm thinking this could be ironed out by adjusting the AFR on the Closed Loop circuit.

I'm very aware that just because you can do something doesn't mean that you should....

Any ideas/opinions on this from the more experienced tuners on the forum?

Also, any tips advice from those running the Autotune?

I'll be fitting it and testing it on Monday and will let you know how it goes, but any advice or top tips would be appreciated.

Best

kev

  Jet Hot
Posted by: Retsel_imp - 07-15-2017, 03:17 AM - Forum: Accessories/Modifications - Replies (54)

So, I anticipated some downtime and decided it was a good time to get my headers, for my 2014 Standard, Jet Hot Coated. The brown color of the stainless pipes just didn't match the black and chrome theme of the standard.

I actually contacted Jet Hot back in February, 2017. I received a quote but the turn time was 21 work days so, I held off shipping them my headers. They did let me know they could do an 8 day expedite for an additional $100. The original quote was $265. I decided to wait. Oh, the quote was good for a year.

In June the turn time had dropped to 7 to 10 days so, I pulled the trigger and shipped them out, from California to Oklahoma, on June 19th.

UPS delivered them to Jet Hot on June 23rd.

They do not ask for billing information until the work is complete and they are ready to go.

I received the call for a CC number on July 6th.

They shipped back to me on July 7th.

I received them on July 13th.

Photos below. [Image: 532d88be5a29d1fb2339cb8869542c39.jpg][Image: 57b729f72a281a3482cc61cda8a7731c.jpg][Image: 417a63c35ccef0769a2cd465fa606020.jpg][Image: 5746ba0ae36f0adba41c5a9548017ca7.jpg][Image: aae10953781175078ca932977b0a1df9.jpg]

The photo of the headers prior to installation includes the 4 crush gaskets and the rubber washer that holds the shield on the muffler. The original washer had fallen apart when I pulled it off.

If anyone knows the trick for holding the crush gaskets in place, while installing, please let me know. That was really the hardest part of the whole process.

I had to make the tool for removing the oxygen sensor. I just used my angle grinder and cut a slot in a 17mm socket. [Image: ffedc8c9d49c1d53acc93ce60ca3e466.jpg]

Overall I am very happy with the service and results. The color is closer to a polished aluminum than chrome, I am good with that. There are minor flaws in the finish. Just have to realize it is a paint coating so any physical flaws in the original surface can be seen. I am okay with this as well.

I remember seeing a post about the Genuine 400 here a few years ago and looked it up again. Seems to still be in the works. I need another bike like a hole in the head, but it's a nice looking bike.

In another day and a half I ride my CB about 5 hours over into Indiana to hook up with forum member OffroadfX4 and his black 14 CB. From there we travel (tow) about 1100 miles across Indiana, Illinois, Missouri and Kansas (ahhhh the heartland) to meet up with forum member LongRanger somewhere in Colorado, who generously offered to guide any interested forum members to ride some awesome high mountain passes with him. Worship

So looking forward to this. Excited

I had planned on riding some Colorado mountain passes with a local fellow last year and it never worked out. When LongRanger put out the invite, I knew it was time to go. Glad Offroad recognized the opportunity as well. I have ridden with Offroad at two of the CB rallys (NC and Ark). He's a fine fellow, easy to get along with and a good rider. We should have a great time.

So I will have periods where I'm offline, for the next week or so, so behave yourselves and do what Cormanus says. ROFL

In the meantime I will be riding, taking lots of pics in beautiful Colorado (and not knowing how to post them although Offroad says he will teach me during our downtime).

have fun, and ride safe while I'm gone!

Rode out of Chesapeake Cycles in Annapolis, MD.

Was easy to ride smoothy. Bike felt solid. Not too much torque, even in sport mode. Steady tide, good brakes.

Rode ten miles and the battery went down 10%.[Image: a767921e1b38ed30e8de480eb694f9de.jpg][Image: e9a46f202ce421a31e3b50b6603be1d6.jpg]

Hmm... One of the commenters at the end of the article said that they didn't know if they could resist this bike if it comes out. That makes two of us.
