Decisions, decisions… Please bear with me. I’ll have an opportunity to test a brand new 2017, red, dual exhaust CB1100 on Friday and they’ll bring in a black 2016 later, for less money, if I like the ride. (I think the black looks awesome!)

I’m currently on a 2017 Triumph Street Twin and although it’s great around town, it lacks power and doesn’t like the freeway too much. I’ve toured on smaller bikes for sure and could with this I reckon, but that was at an age when I was pretty much oblivious to bodily comfort and cared mostly about the destination, rather than the journey. I might regret a long ride on this little bike, but keeping it is one option. Or, get something bigger.

The other option besides the CB is a 2017 Triumph T120 1200 (also black) for the same cost as the 2017 CB. Frankly, I’m much more drawn to the Triumph’s sound, un-buzzy engine and its low down torque which peaks at 3,100 RPM… But also puts me in a more expensive insurance bracket. CB is beautifully styled and no doubt reliable, a bit cheaper to insure, less costly initially (for the 2016), seems to have better accessory availability (Samurider)… but is an inline 4 with typical buzzy-ness. Buzzy-ness can be dealt with by using super heavy bar end weights + bar snake + Grip-puppies… so not too much of a big deal.

As I said, keeping the 900 is an option. It’s already paid for and has Rifle fairing and good hard luggage installed etc. I just miss having some good mid and low range grunt! Previous two bikes we’re an Aprilia Tuono 1000R and Triumph Tiger 1050… those bikes had power!

So now both the T120 and the CB1100 are appealing and somewhat comparable in general terms but the CB lacks that parallel twin “character” and the T120 costs considerably more… And now there’s rumours of a 2018 Triumph “Speed Twin”. Who knows what that might be all about??

I know nobody here can tell me the right thing to do and that’s not what I’m looking for anyway… I’m just bouncing my thoughts around and, fortunately, no one here has a vested interest one way or the other in what I decide.

Another factor is that no matter what bike one buys these days they ALL need suspension upgrades! What the heck's up with that? Maybe that’s always been the case but these days my body can’t tolerate the knocking around.

But either bike, including current one, will need some more money thrown at it for suspension. (At least the CB and T120 have some adjustability - unlike the Street Twin.

Being recently retired I also have to get used to the idea of not throwing money around like I used to…and that sucks! :-)

Anyway, I think I’ll go look at that T120 again this afternoon in preparation for Friday’s CB test.

It's an 2010 R1200RT, had 3500 miles. Just turned 5,000. I put new rubber on and Lee did a service on it. It's got everything on it offered that year.

After the trip last year I attempted to upload the pics to PB but went over my limit and was locked out. This is an abbreviated pictorial of that 2 day, approx 800 miles journey. I took off from Ogden over Monte Cristo Mountain and headed counterclockwise around the Wind Rivers Range, Over Cristo at approx 9,200 feet elevation via Randolph Wy, then Fossil Butte, Kemmerer, the Farson Cut-off to South Pass. Lander where I spent the night in my tent in a pasture at a buddies hobby ranch and fly fished a little on his stretch of the crystal clear stream.

The next day I headed north to Fort Washakie Indian Reservation to visit the grave of Sacajawea. Then pressed further north and west to Dubois where I grabbed lunch and then over Togwotee Pass to Moran Junction and down to Jackson. I topped off on the north side of town and drove straight through spending as little time as possible there. It's a tourist trap these days and I'm not comfortable around the LandRover and Gelandewagon crowd.

Heading south out of town I made the on the spot decision to head SE via the Hoback Junction and pushed on to Big Piney. That stretch and south of BP to Labarge saw me riding in excess of XXX mph for several minutes at a time at least a half a doz times. Once I made it to Labarge I retraced my route to Kemmerer and basically covered the same roads back that I described above.

PS: I just realized that the first pic is from the trip I took this year since I have the aluminum fly screen on and am missing my fly tube. However, the pic is correct as it was taken on the exact route just at a later time.

Between Farson and South Pass these 4 historic routes converge and the country side is pretty much exactly like it was 200-300 years ago, discounting the road of course. No houses, no telephone poles...just a few strands of barb wire.



South Pass, about 20-30 miles from Lander, Wy. It had rained pretty just before the pic was taken and the fog had cleared.

Sacajawea's grave on Fort Washakie a few miles north of Lander. It's worth mentioning that this is a very historic and fascinating cemetery. I could have walked quietly through it for hours looking at the history etched into wood and stone.

Does the comet fairing work as a windshield ? Seems too small to make a difference . Anyone who has it can you please give me some feedback. I am 6 feet and own a 2017.

I replaced the rear brake pads on my 13' CB for the first time the other day, when I took the bike for a short test ride afterwards I noticed the rear rotor was hot, not super hot as if I had done alot of braking just hot (lets say much more than warm!). So I put the bike back on the center stand and removed/reinstalled the assembly, the caliper and pads look aligned and I had cleaned and greased the hanger pin, everything looked correct. I took the bike for another short test ride and this time without using the rear brake, again I found the rear rotor was hot.

Is it normal for the rear rotor to be on the hot side without applying the rear brake? I imagine the rotor could be getting heated to some extent given it's proximity to the exhaust but I'm concerned it's the installation of the new pads that's causing the issue. Any thoughts or suggestions on the subject would be appreciated.

After owning three '79-81 Honda 750's, I recently, and quite happily, became the proud owner of a 2014 CB 1100. Geez I love this bike.
I have a question I hope someone will be able to help me with.
Some time ago I had a pair of thick (bullhide?) gloves. They had no lining at all and they were perfect, just thick hide and great fitting.
Is there such a pair of gloves like that out there in existence today?
If you know of any such creature please let me know.

[/size][/font]Just bought the Dowco Fasttrax value tail bag. This is a great tail bag. I bought this to use as an everyday bag as opposed to a touring bag. Just the right size for my purpose. The convenient built in rain/dust cover is fantastic. I use the cover almost constantly to protect from UV, rain, and dust.
