I wanted a different sort of experience. The CB1100 EX is certainly the smoothest, best fit-together motorcycle I've ever owned. I thought a Royal Enfield Classic 500 would be a bit of fun from the other end of the spectrum.

I credit a poster here with the inspiration. Until I saw a picture of one in his basement, I never imagined they were still on the market. Then synchronicity struck, and watching some videos of the Bhutan Dragons Motorcycle Club, I saw a swarm of RE Classics.

The final blow came when I found a Youtube video of this fellow who bought a Army Green Classic 500 and went to work customizing it, putting a 5" white Army Star on the side and a leather belt fastener on the battery case, etc & etc. That sort of thing appeals to me, so it's going to be a project. I think I'll start by getting the exhaust header powder coated black, and maybe I'll get a gold 5" Army star for the side or something. There are a few legitimate Army-Navy surplus stores still around; M&G Salvage in Norfolk, VA for one. They still sell stuff left over from WWI -- no joke. I once bought an enormous signal flag from a battleship there. With a little luck I'll come up with some vintage canvas panniers.

The Royal Enfield dealer tried as hard as he could to get me to put down a deposit on next year's RE's Twin 650 cc Interceptor. I think they expect that to be Royal Enfield's big breakthrough in the U.S. market.

So I got to take my CB1100 to work the past two days (thank you Southern California weather)

What would be a fair purchase price for a 2014 CB1100 with a Yosh RSCV exhaust; one owner ultra clean with LESS than 1,000 miles?

Ferret, you've ridden both. 30 years of advancements separate these bikes. Setting aside the spec sheet, which is the more satisfying bike to ride, and why?

I've read more than one post/thread of how difficult it was to find a new or used DLX or something to that effect.

Would they be considered "rare" now?

Anybody know how many were sold in the US?

I recently upgraded my cell phone from a Galaxy S5 to a Note 8. I have been using my old S5 as a music player and off line GPS with Google maps. It is working great. Yesterday on my ride l tried to use it as a video recorder as l rode my Black Beauty through some local twisties. I was having problems with some unknow electronic interfearence causing the video to pulsate with waves across the screen. I tried changing camera position, turning off other apps, unplugging the USB power, etc, but nothing worked to solve my issue. This phone has recorded countless hours of perfect video footage over the last few years in my hand. Anybody had this problem? I can post a link to the footage if needed. This was not just vibration, it was sometime else l have never seen. Looking for help to solve this issue. Thx

Good day all! Just looking for some feedback on if anyone has heard of someone trying to do an ABS conversion for an EX 1100. It is the ONLY thing I do not absolutely love about this bike and would have bought an ABS model if there were any around me. I searched all over, but found nobody talking about this. If there are any posts already about this I apologize in advance. Wondering if it would be a bolt on swap if the right parts could be found. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time riders.

My mate, GrahamT, occasional contributor to this forum, works in the construction industry. That interferes with the enjoyment he gets from riding his CB1100 to such an extent that sometimes he finds it necessary to take a ‘mental health day’ during which I am forced to make a huge sacrifice and go riding with him so he can restore his karmic balance. I know, I know, it’s tough but someone has to do it.

Last week GrahamT told me that, while his mental health was shaky, he had a pressing need to visit to one of his company’s projects in Gympie—a town a couple of hours north of Brisbane. Taking his large ute was not an option and he would need to ride his bike. That, in turn, necessitated avoiding the highway. GrahamT pretended he was concerned about getting lost if I didn’t go with him. On the basis that it’s always me who plans the ride route, I figured he was pretending. But, hey, it was a ride, and that’s seldom a hardship. So, plan I did.

On Thursday, the day before the planned ride, Brisbane was pummelled by one of those summer thunderstorms that made you glad humans invented solid dwellings. On Friday the sky was clear as we pointed our 18 inch front wheels to the north.

We went clockwise around the above loop and had a glorious ride to Gympie, stopping only for fuel for the bikes and ourselves at Maleny.

Some time ago now, I took Pterodactyl there and we enjoyed a coffee and a chat with the owner and barista, Giovanni. It is some time since I’ve been there as I’ve moved away from the area. A poster advertising a ride for Gio attracted my attention and I looked and was devastated to discover that Giovanni had suffered a massive heart attack at the tender age of 58 and is no longer with us. Vale Giovanni. You were a good bloke.
From Gympie, I led Graham along some of my favourite roads in the area.






We arrived in Nambour and I realised I was running out of time to get home. My plans for more scenic roads on the way home were in tatters, so, sadly, it was on to the highway for the last leg.

Have what looks like some light oxidation on upper part of my aluminum fork tubes. How do you clean/polish this back to originial?

FYI ... A couple of years ago, the TankSlapper guy did some custom tank stuff for my 2014 DLX and gave me the leftover film which I cut into narrow strips and put on lower part of fork tubes ... still looks brand new under the 3M, but unprotected upper area is slightly dull.
