I wanted to post my latest modification to my '13 Standard CB. I've always thought the seat grab rails on this bike we're a design afterthought and not well done. So much of the bike is an homage to the CB750 - but then they tacked these chunky sort of awkward garnishes onto the frame. So, with the release of the '17 (and it's perfect wrap around seat rail) I decided to make the switch.

It is NOT plug and play though. The frame has been subtly changed, so the rail mounting hardware does not match up. The front of the rail fits perfectly - but the back mounts don't align. So, a small bracket was necessary - which I fabricated myself.

The even trickier part for me was figuring out how to integrate the turn signals work into the rail (rather than have a separate mounting bracket for them). My solution was to actually tap the existing mounting hole on the bracket - threading it all the way through for a M8 1.25 bolt.

The bullet turn signals I got from Maund Speed shop (Maundspeed.com) threaded right into the rail now. I used a hollow M8 1.25 for the back side, running it through the bracket and then threading it into the rail as well.

I'm pretty damn happy with it, and feel it makes a real improvement to a bike that got so much right.

Got back from LA a couple of days ago. The weather finally broke around these parts and it was 75 today in downtown 'naptown (Annapolis, MD).

Finally had a chance to put some serious miles on my Speedmaster today since I did the mid-control mod a month ago.

Have to say that it turned a decent bike with lots to recommend it, but with some serious ergonomics issues, into something special. My CB1100 is always the ride of choice for me when doing something other than tooling 'round town, but moving the controls back on the Speedmaster makes such a difference that I may well take it farther afield. While the forward controls were cool from a nostalgic perspective, I really find it hard to believe that a majority of riders can prefer that.

It'll be raining tomorrow, but next week looks like a commuting rider's dream. The CB will get some lovin' soon...

Left leaking a little more than the right. Just noticed it. Plan to order the parts and replace the seals and bushings with a buddy assisting. I might post pics and do a step-by-step pictorial for the Forum.

I started by moving the CB and Guzzi 1200 Sport onto the driveway so I could sweep out the accumulated leaves and dirt that is a result of bringing a car with wheel wells full of snow into the garage.

Looked like it was going to rain, but when I thought 'enough of this cleaning up,' instead of pushing the CB back in the garage, I put on boots, jacket, gloves and helmet and took 'black beauty' out for 15-20 miles. Just around the neighborhood, but she felt really nice. Started right up after sitting for 3 months. I really appreciated the feel of the lighter fork springs, Race Tech emulators, and Ikon rear shocks a riding buddy of mine and I installed last season.

We'll be 40 degrees cooler tomorrow, so wanted to sneak in a short ride while I could.

Hello ,I have a 2013 cb100abs and was wondering if i could swap to the 2017 larger tank without a hassle ? The 13 is 3.9gal the 17 is a 4.4 I believe. Just wondering if its possible .

So, I've decided to put my custom front fender idea on hold, on account of it being dependent upon my final paint job, which i'm not yet ready for. Instead, i'm moving on to the next big item, which is a fueling, air, and exhaust upgrade. on my list are:

TSR air funnels

TSR intake opening

K&n performance filter

Power Commander V, hopefully with a custom map

Moto gear Titanium Cat-free headers

I've got high hopes for this upgrade, and i've been reading a lot, including but not limited to these threads by Hondajohn and CB4ME:

I'm still weighing the idea of getting a custom map on the PCV, or sticking with the pre-loaded map. Hondajohn's 97 rwhp results from his original version of this upgrade are extra promising, and he didn't even use the TSR bells or a custom map if i'm understanding that correctly. I may be able to achieve even better results. I'm also mulling a front sprocket change alongside this set up upgrades, just to get the most out of my increased throttle response.

At any rate, i'm making this thread as a place where people can offer advice or tips on which parts to use or warn me off any bad ideas i might be presenting here. I'm especially interested in input from anybody who's done a similar cat-free upgrade with a custom map and can comment on whether or not the dyno-tuning service is really worth it in this case.

Do you do anything to it, cosmetically/polishing/treatment, before putting it on the road, to protect it in the years to come? If so, what do you do?
Similarly, how does your cleaning routine prevent corrosion in all those difficult-to-reach places?

this man from austria made until now with a honda varadero over 620000km....He bought the bike with 16000 km in 2002......

and since 3 years now he have too a new DCT africa twin with now already 200000km..and for example the DCT without any problems....
