From forum member Don Miguel:

Quote:As much as I could find about Estonia:

In 2013 2 Honda CB1100's 2013 were sold,
one was (Candy Glory?) red, the other was black, both had combined-ABS

In 2014 2 Honda CB1100EX 2014 were sold,
one was white (mine), the other was Candy Glory red, both had non-combined ABS and spoked wheels

No info about stripes etc. I think they all have HISS here, silver engines and side colors match tank color.

I know that one black CB1100EX 2014 is waiting for sale in the shop.

Honda has built a new version of its classic road sport model the CB1100 EX ABS with cast aluminum wheels called the CB1100 EX ABS Limited Edition. It's offer a limited run of 200 which go on sale January 26.

Based on the CB1100, the CB1100 EX is a model that presents a traditional image with features like its dual chamber muffler and wire spoke wheels.

The addition of cast aluminum front and back wheels for the limited edition model add a touch of sportiness to its traditional image. The tires are also tubeless. The weight is reduced 2kg from the original model, giving it better maneuverability.

The color is Candy Alizarin Red and the price is 1,163,160 yen.

From forum member Henrik:

Quote:Here you go with some initial information. Like I mentioned, I will contact Honda Switzerland next week to try and get some more info from them. I would like to get the serial numbers imported here if possible, and to clarify the situation for the standard 2014 model because things are not entirely clear on that one. What I indicated below about the black one is what I was told by the Honda shop where I bought mine, but I have not yet seen any myself.

2013

Model Name CB1100A
5 speed
All ABS and CBS
Three colour options:
  • Black with black side cover
  • Red with silver side cover
  • White with silver side cover

2014
Two models available:

CB1100SA all ABS (no CBS) in three colors.
6 speed larger gas tank and new dash:
  • Black
  • Red
  • White

CB1100A
Same tank as 2013 but with 6 speed and new dash.
Only available in black, black wheels and engine.

Also the CB1100 Dark Racer - Sold through Honda dealers
Limited edition to celebrate the 40 years of Honda in Switzerland. It was based on the 2014 CB1100SA (or EX) model, so also had the 6 speed box, ABS and no CBS.
QD exhaust
Öhlins rear shocks
Clubman handlebar
Alcantara solo seat
No center stand

Note: it's worth including this post of Henrik's from CB1100forum.com for the pictures alone ...

I was today at a classic bike hill climb in my "backyard" here in Switzerland (Retro Moto St Cergue). As a friend of mine was racing a CB750 Daytona Replica, I obviously went to see him at the Honda paddock, and again came across this special edition CB1100 proposed in Switzerland:

Last time I showed it, there was a question if this was a proper 2015 model, or a modified 2014. So, I took a picture of the serial number:

I am not familiar with the codes, but I am sure somebody here will be able to determine what model year this is...

Even though unavailable in the U.S. , Canada, Australia, or much of the world for that matter, apparently there are 2015 Honda CB1100s available for order (and not stocked by the dealer?) in a couple of countries. Germany according to German forum member Django and Croatia according to new member from that country Tobasco.
In his intro I asked Tobasco to verify

Quote:The ferret Wrote:
Howdy and welcome to the forum.

Maybe sometime you could drop by a Honda dealer and take a headstock shot of a plate showing its a 2015 model for me?
Thanks.
I would be happy to do it but unfortunately they don't have in the shop. It is available to order. Here is the link to the web site of the Honda dealer showing 2015 models:

http://www.honda.hr/motocikli/modeli-pregled.asp and CB1100 is listed.

The link above does indeed show a 2015 available in Croatia.

Django provided a similar link from Honda Germany

Quote:The ferret Wrote:
Django..are you saying there was a 2015 model imported to Europe? We have no eveidence of that. The only 2015 I know of was a special edition ex with mags for Japan

Ferret, I don't know, if there was much difference to the 2014 model. However, the CB1100EX is part of the 2015 model catalog of Honda Germany:

This is interesting news, and a good sign for the model.

For 2014 Honda made some changes for USA models. They offered 2 different models.

2014 Standard

Very similar to the 2013 model the USA got, with the following exceptions. The bike comes in black only, with black color matched side covers, black lower fork legs, black passenger grab rails, black wheels, black engine cases, black passenger foot peg brackets, black springs on rear shocks, black triple trees, a 6 speed transmission (vs the 13's 5 speed) and a new gauge cluster with a digital gear indicator, fuel computer and 120 mph limit with a black face. NO ABS option on the standard for 2014 (note picture says European ABS model shown but this is what the US 2014 Standard looks like)

2014 gauge cluster shared by both the 2014 Standard and Deluxe...black face for standard, green face for the Deluxe

2014 Deluxe

For 2014 the US got a Deluxe version of the CB1100. There were close to 30 changes made to the 14 Deluxe which differentiates it from the 2013 model the USA got. Those changes include:

1 Silver motor
2 Silver wheels
3 4 into 2 exhaust
4 Chrome waterfall head pipes vs snaky stainless head pipes
5 ABS standard
6 Taller, patterned seat vs plain
7 Polished master cylinder covers for clutch and front brake vs black
8 Chrome bar ends vs black
9 Polished top triple tree vs painted
10 Headlight raised an inch
11 Horns raised an inch
12 Smaller turn signals
13 Front sprocket cover now aluminum instead of plastic
14 Color matched side covers instead of silver
15 Side covers wrap around frame
16 4.6 fuel tank vs 3.9
17 New speedo limited to 120 mph
18 New instruments have different patterned faces
19 Digital gear indicator
20 Fuel computer that tells fuel used, ave mpg, fuel remaining
21 Passenger grab rails on a different angle to follow contour of new seat
22 Passenger grab rails polished
23 New left hand switch assy to match other 2014 Hondas
24 Front forks take different amounts of oil in each leg (for some reason but its new for 2014)
25 Rear axle size reduced (lower torque required for some reason but it's new for 14)
26 570 lbs wet dlx vs 540 lbs wet std ( due to ABS, larger fuel tank, 7/10 gallon more fuel, aluminum vs plastic sprocket cover, and extra exhaust pipe = 30 pounds)
27 6 speed transmission
28 Handlebars ½” higher with relocated pin holes for new switches
29 Red paint on tank and side covers is a deeper shade of red vs the 13s. Honda calls the '13 model Candy Glory red and the '14 model Candy Alazarin Red.

* In other countries this bike is called the CB1100EX only it comes with spoke wheels in lieu of the cast wheels, and of course a speedometer marked in KPH instead of mph

CB1100: A little history by the Ferret

Many of us have followed the history and progress of the prototypes for this bike, and waited for years for it to become a reality so that we could finally get our hands on one for ourselves. Thank goodness Honda finally saw fit to make it available to us. It has undergone many changes since it's inception. I will try and cover them as best I know them. If anyone can add info to this, please PM me or post it up and I will update. This particularly applies to models sold in other parts of the globe besides the US. features, colors etc.

The original sketches and prototype were shown at the Tokyo motor show in 1999, and originally it was designed to be a 750cc-900 cc machine.

original prototype shown in 1999 with 4 into 4 exhaust. Look how accurately this bike mirrors the original sketch by the designer.

Look at this linked page .... if you will scroll to the bottom to will see the original designers' intent in words

Note: Honda was still producing the CB 750 Nighthawk at this time, an inline 4 cyl air cooled bike with 5 speed trans, chain drive and hydraulic valves, and would continue to produce that model until 2003. Makes you wonder why they were considering the prototype version in the first place.

The next prototype was shown at the 2007 Tokyo motorcycle show and was a very aggressive iteration of the 1100 cc motored bike.

There is almost nothing on this bike that is the same as the bike we received. Check out the different tank, exhaust, swingarm (square aluminum?) wheel sizes ( both 17"), rear brake caliper (underslung) seat (solo looking), piggy back shocks, smaller turn signals and rear tail light, and different headlight ears.

Then at the 2009 Tokyo Motorcycle Show a new version was shown, actually a production version. The aggressive nature of the prototype bike from 2007 was tamed down and it got 18" wheels, a softer looking tank, seat, exhaust, std swingarm, std rear shocks, rear brake caliper mounted above, different headlight ears, larger turn signals and tail light and ABS. Several versions of this bike were released in 2010 to Japan, Australia and New Zealand, some with tank stripes, some without. Some with black motors and wheels, some with silver motors and wheels. Note how thin the double seat is. This is often referred to as the " low seat". This bike had a 5 speed transmission and of course instruments in KMPH. I believe this model also got the HISS anti-theft system in the ignition.

* note...according to our great members from down under, in Australia, the bikes were imported in 2010 and 2011 there. All had no pinstripes, all had the darker silver side covers, all had silver motors and wheels, all came with an IEV (interactive exhaust valve) flapper valve in the end of the muffler, and all came with the HISS anti-theft system. ABS was not offered. Colors were red, white and a dark blue in 2010 and a black in 2011. They were no longer imported to Australia after 2011.

Finally in 2013 the version most of us are familiar with was released to The US, Canada and Europe. Basically the same bike released in 2010, but the US version bike had a thicker seat than the Japanese, Aussie, NZ versions and for the US market a speedo marked in MPH registered to 140 mph, Same engine, 5 speed trans, and 3.9 gallon fuel tank, and 4 into 1 exhaust with stainless steel head pipes, same black engine and wheels.  ABS was an option on this model in the US. Weight on this version was about 540 pounds.

In 2014 there was an upgraded model called the Deluxe for the US. Big changes for the model going into it's 5[sup]th[/sup] year of production. New was a 6 speed transmission, updated instrumentation with a digital gear indicator and fuel computer and now only registering 120 mph, a 4 into 2 exhaust with double walled chrome waterfall head pipes, reshaped stitched seat, color matched frame covering side covers, silver motor, silver wheels, larger 4.7 gallon capacity fuel tank, different turn signals, headlight raised 1", polished master cylinder covers, top triple tree, and passenger grab rails, chrome bar ends, a metal front sprocket cover instead of plastic, and a one tooth different rear sprocket. It also came standard with ABS. Weight on the Deluxe jumped up to 570 pounds with the addition of the extra muffler, more fuel and the std ABS.

There was a similar model with spoke wheels called the EX for Europe, that didn't appear to get some of the polished bits the Americans got, but instead got spoked wire wheels and a choice of several colors. I'm not sure if all EXs had silver motors but I will endeavor to find out.

The standard model of the 2014 CB in the US got the 6 speed transmission and revised instrumentation of it's DLX brother, but came in black with a red/ silver tank stripe. I have seen versions of this bike with black turn signals online, but not sure who got them. Pretty sure the US models came with chrome turn signals. In the U.S., ABS was no longer an option for the std bike.

Colors available around the world were 2 shades of red, black, white, 2 shades of blue and silver. Some came with tank stripes, some without. Not all colors were available in every country.

The mufflers in Thailand came with a special heat guard I have not seen in any other country.

The July 2013 edition of Cycle World magazine featured a full road test of the 2013 CB1100.

A few interesting data points as tested:

Measured Top Speed: 112 mph

1/4 mile: 11.79 sec. @ 110.87 mph

0-60 MPH: 3.3 sec.

0-100 MPH: 8.6 sec.

Top Gear Time To Speed, 40-60 MPH: 4.4 sec.

Top Gear Time To Speed, 60-80 MPH: 4.9 sec.

Fuel Mileage (High/Low/Average): 43/37/41 mpg

AVG Range (incl. Reserve): 160 mi.

Cycle World's dyno test showed rear-wheel horsepower to be 82.5 hp @ 7200 RPM and torque to be 64.7 ft.-lb. @ 5000 RPM

Interestingly, most all of the CB 1100's came out of Japan with both a rev limiter and a speed limiter of 180 KMPH ( Japanese National Limit) or 112 mph in English. However, there have been several reports of bikes with no limiters as reported on the UK CB board and of course a couple of our members have sent their ECU units to be modified to eliminate these electronic restrictions, and the highest speed I can recall one of them reporting was around 134 mph.

MotoUSA managed to get a few more horses, and few more foot pounds of torque out of theirs. Both horsepower and torque curves can hardly be called curves ... more like flat lines ...which is why this bike is so easy to ride.

As I get info, I will update this thread with better pics and maybe list changes between years and models

Is there by chance an option to mark all posts as read in myBB? I have found that option useful on other forums when leaving as a way to “checkpoint” my sessions. I typically view all new posts when I log in to condense the forum to only unread posts since my last visit, and marking as read on exit keeps posts I am uninterested in out of the way.

NOTES
The final letter of the model code denotes the year of manufacture A=2010, B=2011, C=2012, D=2013, E=2014, F=2015, G=2016, H=2017.

* It seems likely that no CB1100s were produced in 2015. If they were, they were not exported to any of the countries on the lists I've found. CB110s were produced in 2016, but went only to China and Canada. The 2016 bikes sold in Europe were manufactured in 2014.

** The three models listed for China in 2017 are described on this website as DCT ABS models, giving rise to a question of whether a DCT model has been made for export to China.

***The 'T' model has the 2010-2016 tank and a 4 into 2 exhaust.

Honda's internal model identification number

Between 2010 and 2016, the CB1100 has been designated by Honda as SC65. This information is used in the VIN and sometimes in parts fiches.

Check out this website if you're interested in the letters and numbers Honda uses to identify its models. For our purposes "S" tells you this is a bike of 900 ccs or more; "C" tells you it's a street bike. 65 tells you its the CB1100. I've no idea how the number's determined; I think, when Honda wants to identify a new street model of 900 or more ccs, it simply takes the next sequential number. (The RC213V is SC75.)

Forum member Django reported here that, in 2017, Honda has allocated a new model number to the CB1100: SC78. The EX model is to be SC78A and the RS model SC78B.

However, a subsequent search of the US Department of Transport website has turned up model information for two 2017 CB1100s retaining the model number SC65. At the date of editing (4 May 2017) it is not clear whether the CB1100 will have one or both those model numbers in 2017.

I have limited information on how Honda uses the digit after SC65. In Australia in 2011, for example, the CB1100 was sold with the digits SC65U included in the VIN. In the US, though, Honda has used a number to differentiate models. Do date they have been:

SC651: 2013 and 2014 standard models and 2017 EX**
SC655: 2013 ABS model
SC658: 2014 DLX model and 2017 RS**

** The 2017 model numbers will be subject to further review when the new bikes are on the market.

CB1100 VINs

There's been plenty of discussion about VINs on the forum; perhaps the most useful is in this thread.

The VIN (or Vehicle Identification Number) is allocated by manufacturers on the basis of an international standard. It's designed to be unique to each vehicle. In other words, if, for example, two Honda CB1100s had identical VINs, one of those VINs would be fake. As you can imagine, all this helps with tracing stolen vehicles, ownership, etc.

If you want technical information about VINs see this Wikipedia article.

Until 2016, the CB1100 VIN has taken the form JH2SC65x#^K000001 where:

JH2 = Honda Japan
SC65 = Honda's code for the CB1100.
x = the type of CB1100 and seems to be for Honda's use. In the USA, this digit on the 2013 model was either 1 for a standard bike or 5 for an ABS model. In Australia in 2011 the x was set to "U" which I guess told us it was an Australian model.
# = a check digit calculated from the rest of the VIN—see the Wikipedia article to figure that out
^ = year of manufacture and is the same as the letters cited above—e.g. A=2010, B=2011, etc
K = Kumamoto, Japan—the location of the plant where the bike is manufactured

The remaining 6 digits are a sequential number allocated for each model and model year. So, for example, the SC651 bikes have a sequence starting at 000001; the SC655 bikes also have a sequence starting at 000001.

US VIN Information

For anyone interested, the VIN range allocated to Honda motorcycles between 1989-2015 can be found here on the DOT’s website.

DOT also provides a VIN Search page here. Entering a valid VIN will provide the very limited information Honda provided to DOT when it registered the VINs. You can get the site to work with a partial VIN.

For interest, I have attached the information you can download from the DOT site on each CB1100 model registered. Note the curiosity of the 2013 ABS model which shows as CBR125R, a model which, so far as I can see from the other document, was not imported into the US in 2013. Engine capacity data in the document is consistent with the CB1100.

Other useful US resources are the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Manufacturer Administration Handbook which sets out in great detail how VINs work in the US. It can be found here. For the ultimate authority, the relevant parts of US Federal Law can be found here.
