Because of the aesthetics and the kind of top cases I wanted for my CB1100EX, a Honda OEM rear rack was my only option (I tend to needlessly make things more difficult for myself than need be). There were not very many OEM racks manufactured.

I can assure you that none of the major parts distributors in the United States, European Union, Great Britain, or Australia still have a brand new OEM rack in stock for a CB1100EX. My compulsive obsession led me to look across the world. I suspect my email address and phone number have been blocked by more than one sales representative who dreaded my thick, Southern-American accent and constant requests to “check in the back of the warehouse one more time.” 

I ultimately turned to used parts suppliers with the hope I could refurbish one that had been separated from its motorcycle. I set up automated searches on eBay and checked out used parts listings on Webike and other credible international motorcycle-supply houses.

Along the way, I fell pray to a stock image that had obviously been stolen from a Honda brochure. I purchased an after-market rack I saw advertised on Amazon:

1. The first rack I received was packed poorly and looked like a chrome pretzel when it arrived. I returned it.
   
2. The second rack arrived in one piece but the welds looked like I did them. I also had concerns about the strength of the welds because I could see fissures / cracks. I returned it, too.

CA. Very happy to have it.

Here peterbaron asked Gone in 60 what 5 bikes he'd own if he had lots of money.

So, if money were not too much of a problem, and assuming that a CB1100 is one of the five, what are the 4 extra bikes you'd pop in the stable? It is acceptable to stick with a lesser number if you can't contemplate the idea of owning 5 bikes.

From the advrider site, an online acquaintance who also has a Suzuki DR650 sent out a general invite on the DR650 forum to meet up this weekend at East Fort Rock OHV, about 45 minutes SE of Bend, OR.  I left 8am yesterday Friday, and made it to camp area, near 2510 in the photo below:


Decided to have lunch only 20 mintures from the camp area as I didn't want to arrive hungry.  


By the time I arrived, met a few of the guys and then set up my tent, it was already 2pm, but still time enough to ride.  I went alone as most guys were either done for the day or were still out there somewhere.  I explored the area around the campsite.
 
There's plenty of single track, ranging from easy to difficult.  I stayed on the easy trails and had some fun in the loose dirt. 

But I'm not an accomplished single track rider so I go slow, about 10-25mph, mainly first and second gear through the above.  Some sandy / loose dirt spots about 3" deep.  Then I left the forested area and went to the desert flats where there were lots of wide open spaces...I like views.




Made it back around 5pm and daylight was vanishing quickly.  But the guys had a big bonfire going and that lasted well into the evening


Spent a nippy night in the tent as the temperature fell to 28f, but still slept about 6 hours which is pretty good for me tent camping.

This morning 9 of us took off at 10am to do a loop around Paulina Peak and the surrounding lakes.  The guys like to ride and all of them were much faster than me.  Most were on 350-500cc KTMS, or Husqvarnas.  My DR650 was the largest, heaviest bike of the group, but a good rider would still be able to keep their pace.  There was one guy on at Triumph Tiger 800, and he didn't have any problems.  I could keep up with them on the forest service roads, but once we hit the single lane sections it was a challenge.  But they're good guys...one rider would always stop at forks in the road so that I and another guy could see which way the group went. 


And they told me to just relax, go at my own pace.  So not many photos because we kept moving pretty good.  There was a 3 mile section of 1-2" of snow and going down was kindy dicey.  But keeping bike in first / second and I felt more or less "in control".  Actually, I am very happy I didn't go down.  We did about 65 miles total, about 55 of that was on dirt, 10 of which was snow-rock-dirt-mud mix.  

After lunch, I went back out by myself to the deserty area and enjoyed the late afternoon sun.  It's fun riding with the others, but I feel the constant pressure to keep up.  
 
The above trail became thick with 5" sand, not my favorite.  But I got to experience how the DR does, and I how I do sand.  And...it wasn't pretty.  No falls, but I was using my feet as paddles quite a bit.
 
I prefer the less challenging roads, particularly when I was tired from the 3.5 hour mornning ride.


It was time to head back to the campsite


I had enough food, gas to stay another night, but the thought of the freezing temperatures shooed me the 3.5 hours home and I made back by 9:30pm.  As I've been getting out more on single track, I think about buying a lighter bike.  The Kawasaki KLX300 looks really nice.

I'm going to see a "used" one tomorrow...it has 1 mile on it.  A guy bought it, put a seat and skid plate on it and aftermarket exhaust...and never rode it.  Sounds suspicious, but we'll see.

I remember the first time I saw this error message on cb1100forum.com:



I knew instantly that the incredible, online community which I had stumbled across and had formed over a decade was at risk. Although Forum Moderators were actively engaged on cb1100forum.com and doing a fantastic job, my outreach to the Administrator of Record went unanswered. I escalated to the Domain Registrar of Record; no response. No Bueno.

I contacted The Ferret and Cormanus, and they informed me that the Forum had been on admin auto-pilot for years, and there was nothing either gentlemen could do to provide me with Administrative Privileges to address the relatively trivial things which were preventing Members from connecting reliably with one another via cb1100forum.com. When people are unable to login to a Forum, they drift off. It is a slow death.

I was reasonably confident I could retrieve the data if I acted quickly, replicate the content structure, and address the things that led Guth to once comment that the cb1100forum.com needed updating. It was the height of arrogance given that I had no experience with MyBB, very little experience with Unix, and no social media accounts whatsoever. I do not even watch television.

But that confidence proved to be well founded. With your help and support, we built this Forum. Our Forum. Not My Forum. Our Forum.

I remained apprehensive when we came online. I wondered: Can we make the lightning strike twice? Was it possible to keep the most active Members of the Forum engaged? Would it be viewed as disrespectful to the founders of cb1100forum.com if I provided an alternative site even if the technical issues were resolved? Was there anyone else other than me who felt a deep commitment to the CB1100 and those good souls who shared so much over the years? Was I trying too hard to keep something going which had run its course?

Here is what I learned in the last six months:

• Over 150 users have registered on our Forum. More register each month.
  
• We average 25-30 user logins a day.
  
• New threads and posts occur daily.
  
• Owners and riders of the CB1100 could care less what the critics have to say about one of the greatest motorcycles ever assembled.
  
• We have managed to hold the interest of urban riders, tourers, mechanics, weekend riders, general motorcycle enthusiast, and anyone else enamored with a CB1100.
  
• The knowledge base captured in our Forum is incredibly valuable. We are better at helping one another than any AI engine in service today.
  
• Forum Members have formed relationships they cherish.
  
• Cormanus and pdedse are great working partners.
  
• We have strong leaders with even stronger personalities that are funny, respectful, and support all members of cb1100forum.net.
  

Greetings and salutations.  I just joined this forum.  I see it's the "new" one, but some ppl are still using the old one.

I'm still a member of the Honda Shadow forums at https://cb1100forum.net/forum, but haven't actually logged in over there in years, lol.  I wonder if my account still works and if Swarmkeeper is still in charge over there.  I may have to pay those guys a virtual visit this weekend.

In the meantime, I have had my eye on the newer CB1100s for a while, and am strongly considering adding one to my stable.  But, I haven't been able to find the one I want locally in the last few years.  I made an offer on one in 2019, but got beat out ... I want to kick myself every time I think about that.  The bike sold to a buyer in another city who bought it sight unseen, and had it shipped to him.  I was shocked somebody would do that at the time.  But 6 years later, still without the CB1100 I want, I'm considering doing the same thing myself.

Who are you guys using for shipping a bike like that?  A google search turns up plenty of results, but it would be awesome to hear from a CB1100 buyer who had a good experience and has a shipper they strongly recommend.

I tried searching the forums, but didn't have much luck.  I'm sure I'll get better at searching if I end up finding a CB1100 for myself, and start using the forums more often...

I basically live on Facebook Marketplace. I am selling several items for my company, and I love cruising for different motorcycles to see what's out there. Also a great part to look for parts.

CB1100s come into my "selected for you" items that show up when I browse, and it's an interesting way to check the pulse on what people are asking for their CBs, and to see what the landscape looks like as far as years, modifications, miles, condition, etc.

A 2013 popped up in my area last night for just $2800! Wow! I opened the ad, and noticed that the price might be due to the mileage. Very impressive, 87,000. Doesn't look bad for that many. Anyone here?
