  CB1100 model designations
Posted by: Frulk_imp - 03-29-2015, 06:24 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (1)

I just noticed on the dealer documents that the CB1100 I purchased is designated as a 2013 CB1100D. I know the other designations A and DLX but can't determine what the "D" stands for....Huh any help is appreciated.

  Carburetor Cleaner
Posted by: Chapomis_imp - 03-29-2015, 06:04 AM - Forum: Other Bikes - Replies (3)

I know you guys have a lot of older carburated (sp Smile bikes and I thought I would throw this out. I have a 2005 HD sportster with carbs, (which I am selling because it is being replaced by a CB 1100 DLX) and last fall it started running poorly. It seemed to have a dead spot in the throttle. It idles fine and dead spot started to be at low revs but increased into higher revs as time went on. If I clutched and reved it seemed to help for a while, but then get worse again. Anyways, I started by ordering a new air filter and plugs, which I haven't changed in 2 years, won't hurt even if doesn't solve the problem. I'm not a mechanic so i'm really not too confident in taking the carbs apart, but I thought it wise to run some carb cleaner through the tank. Any advise ?

I absolutely love the CB1100 EX, but I wonder if this bike is good for a weekend escape, due to the absence of any wind deflector and legs protection.
I am also considering the BMW F800 GT and the new and upcoming BMW R1200 RS.
What can you tell me about your experience with the CB1100? What's your opinion about a weekend trip?
Thank you.

Let's consider this thread an informal survey of rear preload. I'm 210 lbs, and I have my rear set at 2.

How much do you weight, where is your rear preload set?

Found this on the Dime City site. Really like the LED feature as it may be brighter than the stock light.

  A Chilly Spring Ride

The weather has been warm but overcast and rain for the most part but this morning broke clear if a bit cold for late March. Wind was gusting up to 20mph but with the beautiful blue sky a ride was in order. I decided to make a northern loop on back roads to Blackshear and from there ride the "Snake" Road, so named for it's many curves (rare around here), and back to the house, roughly 60 miles.

A few views along the Walkerville Road. The remains of an old fireplace where, no doubt, a farmhouse once stood.

Wisteria vines cover old fences and home sites. They're in full bloom and their aroma fills the senses as you pass.

Heading south toward Blackshear I stop on a hilltop to take in the greenery.

A quick stop at ACE to buy some paint and a view of the old Pierce County courthouse.

Some views along "Snake Road".

Also practice riding on the left in case I make a trip to Oz.

Stopped at the church on the county line near home. Moss draped Turkey Oaks and Dogwood blooms adorn thhe churchyard.

I cross Big Creek and head home. What a relaxing ride.

My new Flyscreen arrived the other day...I love it!! Next, to replace those orange signal lense covers with smoked ones, and probably that license plate contraption. At some point maybe a solo seat.

First 2 days of my trip to Southern Italy is in the books, 875kms so far.
Day 1: Rome to Termoli, via Ortona. The ride through Abbruzzo was ok, threatened rain but arrived dry in Ortona. My reason for stopping in Ortona was to visit the Canadian War Cemetery, very poignant reminder to take time to thank our veterans. They gave everything.

Day 2: Termoli to Lecce via Parco Gargano. Amazing vistas through some of the most amazing Adriatic country side. Lecce is a world class city, is called the Florance of the South.
