  Retro bikes, comparison.
Posted by: uscgmac_imp - 04-01-2015, 10:55 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (82)

I've been reading reviews of our bikes and watching YouTube videos and saw the motorcycle.com video. Great review except for the fact that out bike is like 6k less than the motor guzzi and BMW 9t. Those other bikes are great but a little out of my range for this being my second bike. I've noticed that the cb1100 was the only one to be really a Retro roadster and the other two bikes were very modern. The lines on our bike are incredible, hard to notice a difference from a distance from the older cb750. But what really got me was in the comment section someone commented about another Retro bike not yet offered in the states, the xjr1300 by Yamaha. All I can say is wow. If that bike was offered here for a comparative price it would be a very tough choice. I really love the looks of that Yamaha. After seeing our bike compared to the triumphs, we have that one down pat. Now lets see if Kawi does a Retro kz1000. This is really the trend of today, Retro is in.

  2015 CB1100?
Posted by: Ghis_imp - 04-01-2015, 12:43 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (23)

In March 2015, I was lucky enough to have found and bought a brand new 2013 CB1100 that had been sitting at the dealer unsold for two years. Another dealer had a '14 all black (regular CB), and though I would have preferred a 6th gear, I'm not a big fan of the blacked out CB, and the newer turn signals. So I went with the original '13 Candy Red, but is Honda seriously no longer importing the CB1100 to the US? Are we, the '13 & '14 owners the lucky ones to have bought instant classics that were sold here only for two years, or is Honda just skipping 2015 due to an over stock?

  Wheels Through Time Museum
Posted by: EGAlvarez_imp - 04-01-2015, 12:14 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (15)

For those of you going to the rally or passing anywhere near Maggie Valley, I posted the comment below in the CB1100 Rally info page but i don't want to clog it with chatter about the museum.

My original post:
"If you have never been to the "Wheels Through Time" museum, it is a "must do" if you are planning on being in the area. I was there last summer after visiting the Barber Museum.
During my visit, I met Dale and asked him about the "odd looking Harley with a BMW motor" that was on display. He enthusiastically told me that this was in fact a Harley-Davidson with a Harley-Davidson motor (a Harley XA if I remember correctly.) and asked me if I wanted to hear and see it run!?
He began to push some bikes out of the way, he hopped on the bike, fired it up in the museum and began to ride it down the aisles as he shouted at people to get out of the way! It was loud and smoking up a storm! He rode it through the lobby out the front door and zoomed up and down the parking lot a few times to the amazement of me and the other visitors!
I didn't get to ride the bike, but I did get my picture sitting on it next to Dale. I'll find and post that picture tonight!"

So, for those heading to the rally, here are some pictures of the museum to whet your appetite:

Have you ever seen Harley agricultural equipment?!

How about a Harley Davidson logging saw?!

More inside shots

Many gorgeous cars are on display as well!

So here is the odd looking "Harley with the BMW motor"

Dale riding the bike out of the front door!

Showing it off a bit

I think this is what they mean by "Patina"

Me sitting on the Hog, I was praying that he would ask "want to ride it!?" but alas he never did!

Some sections of the southern end of the Blue Ridge Parkway! One of my favorite places to ride!

I hope you enjoyed these pictures and I didn't bore you too much!

  Spare Key
Posted by: the Ferret - 04-01-2015, 04:53 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (11)

We have talked before about a spare key for our bikes, one we can hide away on the bike someplace, or carry in our wallets for emergencies..

Today I ran down to my local Mr Lock and had a spare key cut. Flat-top. For future reference, they used an ILCO HD109 blank and cut the shoulders back because my 14 key was longer than the std blank, any locksmith will understand and should know what to do. Works perfectly.

Won't work on bikes with the HISS security system.

  My Road
Posted by: the Ferret - 04-01-2015, 03:10 AM - Forum: Motorcycling - General - Replies (10)

Many times I have mentioned riding "my road". A few years ago I asked a buddy that does a lot of videos's to video "my road" and set it to one of my favorite Byrd's tunes. This is the type of area I ride in every day. Watch some of the vids and you will see why the CB is such a joy to ride here. To see "my road" go to this site, go to videos and scroll down to Ohio and look at Ohio 743

http://www.motorcycleden.com/videos.html

but I ride ALL the roads in this video collection and they will give you a good idea of the quality of riding roads we have here in SW Ohio and northern Kentucky

I live just off ST RT 125 (reviewed in video)
but also check out Rt 93 in Ohio (just east of me)
and Kentucky 10 is right across the river (south) from me

There is not a bad road among the ones video's.

Let me know what you think.
