Engine Guard Install Question?

Resurrecting this thread for a question. I have the OEM guards for my '17 EX (chrome). When I connect the bottom part of the mounting bracket (with the top slot and the 8mm bolt), the parts the 8mm bolt are supposed to connect are far enough apart that the bolt doesn't even go all the way through. It's as though the frame tube is too large, which doesn't make sense as these are Honda parts. I put one layer of electrical tape around the tube for protection but that can't have added this much to the circumference.
Am I missing a trick here? Pic is blurry but you can see the gap.

Just put a longer bolt in , perhaps some one put the wrong bolts in the package.

Not 100% sure but I think my '14 OEM chrome guards have M6 not M8 bolt and is short.
I am presently 150 kms away from my bike. Make sure that the smaller clamp in properly fitted/locked in main guard's slot?? Did you put any thick protective tape around tubular frame?? Dont't thick Japan OEM/Honda would put wrong bolt in the package!!

I put one layer of regular black electrical tape around the tubular frame for protection so that shouldn't be causing the large gap. I checked on the left side before putting tape on and that one has a big gap as well. I think the clamps are properly fitted over the guard "hook", but will double check again tomorrow when I have better light. The bolts are definitely short--there's not a lot of room on the other side due to the exhaust pipes. Longer may create a problem as a result. I saw several people comment that this was a "10 minute install" when this thread was started several years ago. Hoping one of them might still be around to comment on their experience.

That bracket is a tight fit, any extra tape, different than clear protective film (supplied) would make frame diameter bigger, preventing guard's clamp from proper fitment...check??

Success!!
For me, the secret was removing the muffler and exhaust pipe guards. Freed up enough space for me to play around with the bolt/nut and just barely get them connected by hand, then it was easy to wrench them down from there. Took less than 2 minutes to remove the guards (5mm allen bolt on each side). So happy I won't have to be dreaming all night about how to make something 1-2 mm longer.

Often if a Honda part does not fit on the bike it is the owner doing something wrong .
