Guhl Reflash vs. power commander with custom map.

So, some of my mods include a cat-free exhaust, widened intake bells, de-snorkel, performance air filter, and a power commander with a custom map designed to accomodate all that.

For those that know enough to tell me: what would be the specific benefit of having a guhl reflash done and using that instead of the PCV? I figure selling the PCV would probably offset some of the cost.

Problem is- neither would be perfect for your mods.

If you brought your bike to guhl's shop- I am sure he could put his tune on, and then adjust it on the dyno but that would take a road trip and more cost than just the reflash.

When you say 'custom map' on your power commander- who made it? They had YOUR bike on a dyno with an exhaust sniffer while tuning?

A power commander w/ supplied tune is fine for say a slip on muffler.

It will *run* with more mods than that- but if dynoed you will see the af isn't perfect. Just adding the TSR airbox plate with a staintune muffler and power commander file on my bike leaned out up top more than I would want to leave alone.

The power commander with the optional autotune box will adjust fueling to your desired a/f for your bike, with your mods, all the time, all weather, temp, altitude, barometric pressure, etc.

Problem is- it only does fuel.

Guhls flash adjusts the ign timing advance, gets rid of the speed limiter, raises the rev limiter, gets rid of the 1,2,3 gear limiters...but, like just the power commander alone- his file is 'static'. Unless he tunes it for your bike- it won't be ideal. And even if he did- it won't adjust for all the stuff I mentioned above.

Best solution is power commander + autotune + guhls box.

I see your point with the autotune, but way back when i did all this i discovered that an autotune is not made for the CB1100. I looked and looked and looked but it just didn't seem to exist. I thought it was crazy at the time, and eventually just threw my hands up. please pass it along if you know the exact model number i should be after.

Only difference is single channel or dual. Which means single exhaust or dual.

PD: That link leads to the main PCV unit, which i have installed on the bike. I believe the autotune accessory is a separate item. the problem i was referring to is i never could find one that claimed to be for the CB1100 Another user on here even sent me a link to one he was using and the Powercommander website claimed it was for a different motorcycle.

for example, if you go on the dynojet site and enter your model/year information (2014 honda cb1100) to see what products are available, you only get the main PCV model, no autotune is listed. see here https://www.dynojet.com/parts/honda/cb1100/2014

if you go on other websites that sell the autotune apparatus, they only have you select dual channel or single channel (as PD said), and do not have you select your bike model, suggesting that it is not model specific. I guess what's holding me back is paranoia that i'm somehow going to get this and the O2 sensor threads aren't going to fit or some other godawful disaster that I can't foresee because I don't know enough about the product.

Yea man- you need the single channel- and a DLX would need the dual channel.

You DO need to install a new O2 bung- it comes with the autune box as the unit uses a wideband O2 sensor which is a normal size- not the weird little narrowband our bike has. You remove that and block it with a plug.

Trust me it works great- I have it on my bike.

You will need to buy a SS O2 bung and have it welded on. When I bought my kit, they used to include the bung.

Ok, so from what you're saying then I was mistaken in assuming that the autotune units were in any way model specific, other than channel count.

Back to the "o2 bung" situation. I no longer have stock headers, but the port into which the sensor screws is the exact same size and thread as the stock headers. So, what i'm gathering is that the o2 sensor that the dynojet system comes with simply will not fit into this spot, and so a part must be welded on in order to adapt it, correct?. I think this is the reason i was coming across information telling me the autotune would not fit our bike, because it in fact does not fit out of the box.

I'm not willing to commit to any welding, nor do i know of anybody that can do that kind of work. i'd have to remove my entire exhaust, which was torture for me to put on in the first place. I think I need to stick with an option that doesn't involve any welding, because that sounds like way more trouble and expense than it's worth.

This is true, recently did the Guhl's ECU on my '14 with a full exhaust, and while it does open the bike quite a bit, it's not as smooth, I'm hoping the PCV + Autotune box will do it

You make it sound like a huge deal... 'not willing to commit to welding'...

A bung is a couple dollars. Welding shops are everywhere... it doesn't need to be a specialist. Find a muffler shop, many auto repair places... I'd bet you have a place that can weld a bung within 5 minutes of your home.

I don't know what exhaust you have- but on my Arrow headers the section of pipe the bung is in is separate from the header pipes. Easy peazy.

As I mentioned- even just the TSR airbox plate on the power commander supplied file went lean at high revs...and that was before the velocity stacks and cat delete.

My opinion is do it right or don't do it. So sounds like you are too far in already.
