2017 EX Headlight Dimmer Switch problem?
#11
It is amazing sometimes to see so many of these type of online sales ads. It might imply that there might still be buyers out there who don't pay attention on what they click and commit on. It would be some lucrative luck for the sellers.

Just received my EXT 5 year warranty from previous owner (free transfer), yesterday.
This morning went to Friendly Honda in Baton Rouge. Immediately was told by young guy
at service counter
“That’s not covered under warranty.”
I reiterated:
Really? That fast?
I just purchase bike w/ 991 miles.
Called previous owner who never rode at night nor tried high beam.
I don’t want to void warranty so I didn’t touch it.
Older guy in the back: “It could be a factory defect …”
Young guy: “One month waiting list.”

Me: “Nah I’ll try the other large Baton Rouge Honda dealer.”
And did … (has 4 month waiting list)
I went home.
As a former mechanic, I’ll look at it myself.
It’s all good. sheesh

Is it a Genuine Honda Protection Plan or an aftermarket warranty?

If it's a Honda plan, you can call Honda Customer Relations (866) 784-1870 and explain that it is a safety issue and deserves priority. Customer complaints used to be rated and evaluated by American Honda, and dealers got dinged for them.

I sometimes feel that unless the Honda mill, drivetrain, electronics or wheels have a catastrophic failure, Honda warranty can be tedious to navigate.

It IS a Genuine Honda 5 year Protection Plan until 5/2024. ($771)
The control switch for the 2017EX is already obsolete. , But a dealer in NJ.
has one in stock. Done deal, I guess I’ve become a parts changer and I
might end up with an extra one after I dissect this one.…. lol.
I need the high beam for inspection and I’ll probably leave it on …
with a friggin near miss during my first night drive (a stupid left turn bogey)

Thanks all for the input.

No, not in the US.

The problem is not with Honda Warranty, the problems usually lie with the dealers. Dealers are all independent, and charge customers an hourly rate based largely on what they can get, and as many hours as they can get away with. Most motorcycle shop labor rates are in the $85-$140/hr. rate. H-D, BMW and Ducati dealers are at the top.

Anyway, Honda Warranty will pay that dealer rate, but only for a prescribed flat rate, basically what an experienced tech could do in a reasonable time. But dealers want more time, often because their techs are untrained or inept, or make mis-diagnoses. So warranty jobs are given low priority, and usually done by low level "techs", even though Honda is paying the rate for a top-level Tech.

Sorry you were dis-respected by the dealers.

If by chance you do not like the horn/turn signal positions on these newer Hondas, there is a way to put a 2013 switch that has the turn signals above the horn.

I like the ‘13 switchgear the best.

Sorry, its taken so long to get back here on the forum about the high beam switch not working. I finally changed out the switch/harness assembly. The high beam NOW works as it should proving it was a problem in the original switch assembly, from the factory.
The CB1100 hundred now has 1243 miles on her. I will investigate the orig switch assembly to pinpoint the defect.

Thanks,
