Tire Options for our CB1100
Good to know MrP. Looks like they may even have come to Australia!

It's that tire that occupies a sweet spot of having extreme mileage, spot on rain performance, and is wider than stock to provide that grippy sport touring experience in the turns. I got a set of Avon Spirit STs and let me tell you, they did not disappoint. Now that all the remaining PR3's are running out around the world and the ones i'm able to buy are old as dirt, it's good to know there's an even better tire out there that's in production.

They even look remarkably like the PR3, but they are by no means a pale imitation. Now that i've done enough miles to mostly break them in, I can say that they feel better than the original. my mid corner confidence is up, and the bike seems to tip so much more readily. Of course, this is my first set, so I can't report personally on mileage, but I've read multiple reports of people running these on Honda ST1300s and other sport touring bikes with more power than our CB and getting between 14000 and 15000 miles out of the rear tire! I'll check back in a year to report real world wear on the front and rear, but I think it's going to be durable as all get out.

Price was even a non factor. I paid just $10 more for this set ($225) than i did for the last set of closeout Michelin PR3's i bought. For any of you out there looking for a replacement for your out of production michelin tires, this is the one.

I'm assuming that this is the one for the front (from the link you gave):
110/80 ZR 18 (58W) F MT2.50 2.50-3.00 109 4.3 633 24.9 4

But which one for the rear? This one?:
160/60 ZR 18 (70W) R MT4.50 4.25-5.00 168 6.6 649 25.6 8

It looks to be only 18" rear that is close to stock.

pdedse, the rear at 160/60 is the same size as the PR3.

I used a 160/60 on the rear and a 120/70 on the front, the same as the PR3 sizes i was using. feels great at full lean. now that they're getting broken in i've taken it out once or twice just to go to a clean parking lot and "gymkhana" around. This tire TIPS. and it tips QUICKLY. I will say though that this tendency creates the feeling of being slightly less straight-line stable when travelling 80mph on a blowy highway. It may be that it just has to be worn down some.

I noticed that same feeling when I first got my PR3's. They've either worn in some or I got used to it or more than likely a little of both.

I just put Metzeler Z8s on my 2014. Took the long, twisty way home from the tire shop and I like how they feel. The bike rolls in and out of the lean very smoothly. Look forward to being a little more assertive after they wear in a bit and I get used to them.

Thanks for the feedback EBMac regarding the Metzelers - and welcome to the Forum!
