Turn signals option USA in EU
#1

Hi, I wont to have turn signals flash all the time with headlight, like in USA. Honda has it in EU after 2018. My cb1100 is 2013. What should I do to change the work of turn signals? If I add one wire from headlight to front turn signals it will be working or should I change the bulbs too? Indicator light will be ok with it?

This is all done by the turn signal relay which is actually an electronic module.

The always on turn signals in front are not done by a constant 12v. It is done with a pulsed 12v. This makes the average voltage less and thus dims the signal lights. When a turn signal is selected the pulse goes to a much longer time, I think .5 sec on, .5 sec off so the light will get brighter for flashing.

I have pics of this on my o-scope somewhere on here. I can search them out if need be and you can see the pulse timing, etc.

These relay modules are different in various countries to meet their regulations. You could order a US version and just plug it in.

Consider switching to LED lamps so as not to increase battery load.

Whoa... really? I owe you soo many beers.

Not that I have done anything with what I learn- I just like to learn. Smile

Dumb question- then why the extra wire? As opposed to the rear...

Dubs, I think we went through all this last Winter trying to help someone hook up LEDs. He could not get them to work in the front. Ultimately he hooked them to the rears, or some such,

I, wondering what was going on, metered the voltage and saw there was ~4.5v IIRC on signals when running lights were on. Since that didn’t seem right I put a scope on it and we learned about the pulse modulation being used here.

What extra wire? There are only 2 wires for the signals-ground and hot. The headlight has 3 wires. It is not pulse modulated for bright/dim. Has 2 elements. So ground and a wire for each element.

Here is a link to what the pulses look like: http://cb1100forum.com/forum/showthread....#pid291206

Could have sworn the front and rear have 2/3 filament and 2/3 wires - although I never paid attention myself[Image: 930155375307849bc7012102cc733e47.png]

I was thinking about permanently connecting the bulb socket headlight with the turn signal bulb socket. the negative pole is there so I expected that one wire would do the job (one to the left and second to the right turn signal), but maybe it will be easier and it is enough to replace the relay or bury its settings ...

If you do that you will have the signal on full all the time. And have no flashing when you select a turn signal.
