I see where forum member Ferret said the rear axle nut was 32mm...looks like you would want a 32mm box end wrench to get in there...what have people used on this? Does the other side need to be held while tightening the 32?

I have not had to loosen mine yet but I wouldn't think you'd need it to break it loose, but to remove and re- install, I'd think you'd need to hold the left side as well..its a 27 mm. If I were doing it on the road, id probably use box end wrenches, preferably 6 point because there is a lot of torque on those nuts, but at home I would use a 6 point socket on each side with a breaker bar on the right side and a ratchet on the left.
Btw if you have a 1 1/4" socket that can be used on the right side as well. Again, preferably a 6 point or a 1 1/4" box end wrench.

I bought the factory tools for on road repairs if needed.

I have a 1-1/4 socket that fits right on there, but it is 1-3/4 in tall.... Short enough to fit behind the muffler with a short extension. With that you can use a torque wrench on the nut.... More accurate than torquing the bolt.

what kind of rear axle nut wrench does it have? You'll be breaking loose a fastener that was tightened to 83 ftlb.

There is an extender in the kit. I have adjusted my chain on my nighthawk with the factory tools before with no issues.

When I adjusted the chain, I loosened the rear axel nut using a 32mm socket I bought at a local auto parts store for $8.29, along with a 1/2 inch drive torque wrench I bought at Harbor Freight for $9.99. I did not need to use any other wrenches for the bolt. Also torqued it to 83 ft pounds.

Just to back up what Terry said, I finally had to adjust my chain the other day. I used a 1 1/4" 6 pt socket and breaker bar to loosen. Did not need to hold the 27 mm left side ( which makes no sense to me... but hey it worked). Adjusted the chain, and retightened nut using same socket and a torque wrench set at 75 ft lbs ( close enough to the 83 # spec for me)
