Where the gaurd bracket is, its very brassy colour and very dull finish. I can remember my mate had a new 450 black bomber in the sixties, first thing he did was remove both fenders andpainted them underneath to seal them. I think the quality on todays cb seems exactly the same.
I noticed this when I took it off to install the Fenda Extenda. Not very well chromed on the bottom.
I noticed the same on the wheel side of the stock muffler too

Hey, you put time and money where it shows. Where it doesn't, you don't.

My ST is like that. They only polished the chrome on areas you can see. Bottoms and front side of mufflers nice and shiny, take off the bags so you can see the top and back side of the mufflers and it's low luster brushed if that, actually looks like dull silver paint, but I'm pretty sure it's unpolished chrome metal. Bottom of fork tubes shiny, upper fork tubes hidden by the fairing dull.

I'm pretty sure they do that to hit a price point. They could polish and dip all sides of all the chrome bits but the price point would be much higher.

I think this is the new economy of manufacturing, and don't consider it a quality control issue. Just a shame issue lol

Damn, that is weird, guys. When I changed my tires I was impressed with the inner surfaces of the pipe and noticed the front fender was secured on the INSIDE with chromed acorn nuts. No one will ever see those, why use them?
It really seems like Honda's made some changes along the line with respect to build quality. I don't see a speck of rust or corrosion and like I've said, I've ridden in rainstorms, hosed the bike down, let it sit wet in the garage; no hint of any problems.

Harley has a great rep for quality, but I saw a LOT of bikes in the shop with corrosion and paint fade after a few years, and others that were much older that looked brand new. I'm not pointing a finger at owner maintenance BTW. If you ride in sandy or gravel roads your bike is going to get tiny chips that let corrosion start. Salt air at the beach...parking in the sun for long periods...etc.
There are and have been crap vehicles...my uncle's Vega comes to mind. But I haven't seen anything yet that makes me think the CBs have a quality issue in this area. Even the pipes that annoy me no end have their upside: BMW says they use the same pipes because double-wall pipes tend to corrode internally, where single-wall stainless lasts the life of the bike.
That's exactly right. I've seen way too many double-walled, chromed exhausts rusted all to hell. They collect moisture from combustion and if the bike isn't run hard to burn it off, bad news. And they are pig-heavy, too. The 2013 is just a clean setup. Seems like it's just a few machines 'cause mine is not showing anything, anywhere, like corrosion or rust.
