standard pressure is 36 front and 42 rear for most tires. 2 lbs is too much to let pressure fall. 4 lbs off in front tire and it will melt quickly on a hot abrasive road. in one of your posts you had the pressures reversed i think. 4x front and 3x rear. 3x in rear and it's toast in no time. so if 42 is proper rear pressure and you let it go to 38, yes, half the life probably. 38 in front will help with mileage. 40 to fight cupping. 42 in rear is standard, and I haven't heard of anyone going over that in the rear. I weigh 200 lbs also and run 40 both ends. I do pump rear up to 42 for long rides.
