Shinko 777 tires for my 2017 CB1100ex

Hello duck,
I just bought my 2017 ex and it came with a new Shinko 110/90 on the front and I have noticed every time I ride the front fender is covered with a fine black dust. I am wondering if the slightly larger tire is the cause or this is normal even with the 110/80?

Hi Rossi,
I couldn't find any diameter specs on Shinko tires, but Bridgestone has specs on their popular front BT-45 tires:
110/80-18 - 630mm dia.
110/90-18 - 655mm dia.

So that's a difference 25mm, just shy of an inch, which means 1/2" closer to the fender, not figuring in the expansion from centrifugal force as the tire spins. Dimensions differ by brand, and even different models within the same brand, but this gives you an idea what could happen.

The black specs you are seeing may not be rubber dust, but more likely brake pad dust that is a very common complaint. Remember that it is abrasive material, so don't just wipe it off dry, use warm soapy water and a brush.

A 120/90-18 - 673mm adds another 3/8" on top of that, so maybe 7/8" taller under the fender.

thanks duck, for the info.. that helps me with my tire choices.. right now I am still running the stock tires.. Rossi is the one with the immediate black dust problem.. I find Both of your comments helpful.. yours and Rossi's ..
now I am thinking about sealing my spoked rims and dumping those tubes .. Chuckk j.
