whoa!!! is that a word? took 5 hours to get these tires mounted! well, let me explain. first, these are STIFF tires! I'll start with the rear since it was least difficult. in order to mount the rear tire you MUST make sure both beads of the opposite side are down in the valley of the rim or you will NOT get the bead over the last little bit of the rim when spooning the second bead on. so working with it on its side, hence top and bottom beads, we had the top bead down in the valley (bottom bead completely on) opposite side of wheel, but the last bit wouldn't spoon on. it finally occurred to me that the bottom bead was on the rim and not in the valley and maybe somehow that was preventing it, and that worked. once both beads opposite side were in the valley, the last bit went on with no fuss. now, the front tire. jeeze louise!! it went on without fuss, but would NOT hold air and seat beads. we had 120lbs air pressure and it would not go. after trying 3 nearby automotive shops, we finally ended up at a goodyear tire store in town and it took 2 techs (real ones, not teenagers) about 10 minutes fighting with it with several tools and finally the old strap around the circumference method (which we tried at home) before they finally got that stiff bee otch to hold air and seat! since we were right next door to a mexican restaurant we decided to celebrate with a meal! 5 hours including the meal. dang! i'll let you know if I feel like they were worth it. since it was only $150 for both tires and based on my experience with the same two shinkos on my harley, I predict it was worth it still.

.. I have never had a problem with mounting my Shinko's.. but then I always take the wheels in to have the tires mounted and balanced.. I wait for the tires.. sometimes I watch them mount them, other times I browse the showroom floor.. I will agree though, they are a stiffer tire.. maybe that is why they last a long time .. as long as the handle well, I am happy ..

Much easier to take the wheels to the motor cycle shop and while they put them on you go for a meal and pick them up afterwards . It does not have to be a Mexican meal , it could be any type of lunch.

. .. when guys install them themselves, how do they balance them..
. G.O. .. you have got me thinking..how about a fun, theoretical project ? .. using my c.b. to trailer my kayak !! .. I could attach to my saddle bag brackets.. then make a small tow bar, attaching to the 3rd wheel of my kayak.. here are a few pics.. . ![]() . ![]() . ![]() .. |
