gas tank removal

Has anyone taken the gas tank off? I'd like to get under there to splice into a hot wire for a volt meter. And gotta confess----just to do it one time. Haven't we all lifted the tank on our bikes just to look at the top of the engine, etc.?

If you take the tank off and unhook the fuel line the service manual says
you should replace two small parts on the quick connect fitting.
I looked them up and they don't cost much. -
16719-MFJ-D00 and 17711-SOX-931

If you have a stock VStrom 1000, the fuel controller lets you fix the terrible lean condition the bike comes with from Suzuki. ("They" say its done to pass EPA). Personally I find the CB's factory fueling to be just fine, and the dyno chart in the CB review on Motorcycle.com seems to bear that out. Its virtually a straight line.

So IMO, the only reason to remap the CB is either for fun or to tweak a bit more power out of it. Changing the intake and / or exhaust is another story.

I have no intention of changing anything involving turning on my bike, but this is a great video for removing the tank. I do suppose the tank is dry at this time. How would you go about draining the tank?

meow, I'm not sure the tank has to be dry to be removed (though I haven't tried this myself and I'm not near the bike to test my theory, so big if here!) I believe the [url=http://www.cheapcycleparts.com/oem-parts/honda/2013/cb1100-ac/fuel-tank-fuel-pump]fuel pump is inside the tank, so with the pump off / disconnected as per the video, the fuel supply line should not leak other than a very small amount in the tube prior to disconnect.

The tank doesn't need to be drained to be removed. I reused those bits the book says replace without any leaks. Its as easy as the video.

Linear A/F ratios on a graph are not necessarily optimal for rideability. Owning 3 other bikes with Power Commanders with dyno tweaked maps I can tell you that once you get spoiled by a properly mapped bike, you will feel the difference from stock. Most bikes are too lean below 4000 rpm and too rich at full throttle.

Yes, the CB1100 is decently mapped for a stock motorcycle, but there is clearly room for improvement.
