Side-to-side play in throttle grip

Without physically seeing it I don't see how side to side play has anything to do with the bar ends. The throttle tube (usually plastic) is slightly bigger than the bars in diameter, but on one end has a ridge or curved ramp which holds the push/ pull throttle cable ends, and that runs in a channel inside the r/h switch assy. When placed on the handlebars, the switch assy itself, is located/ anchored by a pin which goes into a hole in the bars. Placed as such, the throttle tube will not come to the end of the handlebars, by design. It is usually slightly shorter. The bar ends are internal in the end of the bars, and cannot go in far enough to contact the throttle tube due to hitting the end of the handlebar.

The play has to be inside the switch assembly, does it not?

Every setup is a little different, but if the bar-end bolts have not been tightened to the hilt, that could result in the unwanted play in the plastic throttle tube.

Because the outside of the plastic throttle tube often rests against the bar-end itself or a flange. Loosen your bar end bolt, and you will almost certainly have play in the throttle grip.
The CB11's part diagrams appear to be the same setup on my Kawasakis and Superhawk.

The throttle tube should never rest against the bar end. It's not designed that way on purpose to keep the throttle from sticking open. I have never seen one hitting the bar end especially since they went to pinned switches.

Is there a flange then? What is the outside edge of the tube resting against?

Edit: Scratch that. Forgot that the play is occurring inside the throttle housing, not the bar end. You can still do the washer trick inside the throttle housing, over the plastic throttle tube and hit it with graphite.

No flange on the throttle tube on the outside end, it doesnt come to the end of the bar so it doesnt ride against anything.

Got it. The play occurs between the flange on the throttle tube and the inside of the throttle housing, not the bar end. I'd forgotten about that.

Yep, you got it.

Back in the old days before pinned switches, bar ends, and open end grips, sometimes throttles would stick when they didnt mount the switches in far enough and the end of the grip would hit the end of the handlebar, but that has all been worked out over the last 30 years.
