  Redbirds made me do it!
Posted by: Nemo_imp - 04-06-2016, 11:48 AM - Forum: Seat Time - Replies (28)

Played hooky from work today to go for a ride with Mr. Redbirds along the coast of Georgia. Beautiful day that after a nippy-ish morning got to the 70's and stayed there with clear skies. Redbirds company is always a pleasure.

We met in Woodbine and made our first stop the US-17 bridge at Jekyll Island

Had to take a "sailfish"

Lunch at Mudcat Charlie's was pretty good

Steve took me to the Harris Neck National Wildlife Refuge to give me an ornithology class.

After that we started our way south. When I got home my trip meter read 273 miles. Redbirds sent me a bunch of the photos he took with his Ferret camera. I'll post some of those later.

Twas a good day. Thanks Steve!

  Engine mount bolt torque value
Posted by: TCinNC_imp - 04-06-2016, 06:44 AM - Forum: Mechanical & Technical - Replies (43)

I received my SW MOTECH engine guards today. Would someone with a shop manual please tell me what the torque value of the engine mounting bolts is supposed to be? Thanks in advance.

  New levers
Posted by: uscgmac_imp - 04-05-2016, 11:36 AM - Forum: Accessories/Modifications - Replies (14)

Picked up some of those cheap levers off eBay several people are using. Cost 23.00 shipped from China. CNC machined aluminum. Got them in less than two weeks. First impression is they look nice and feel decent for the quality. For this price it's worth a shot. They fit perfectly. No install issues or modifications at all. Here are some pics with my new bars and bar ends. They match well.

  Fender Eliminator that isnt $275
Posted by: 0011bc_imp - 04-05-2016, 09:56 AM - Forum: Accessories/Modifications - Replies (54)

I did a search for threads with F.E. in the title - only came up with the RYUJIN one...

I am going to make an eliminator out of 304 SS (about $22) and a mini Lucas style tail light, about $12...

I was wondering if anyone has made their own before and to see their design, and depending on how mine turns out if you'd be interested in the design...

  engine rough after oil change....?
Posted by: eric_imp - 04-05-2016, 09:27 AM - Forum: Mechanical & Technical - Replies (12)

hi folks . have a 13 with about 4k on it , got it back in nov. Was running a tiny bit rough over the winter..anyway decided to do an oil change . bought honda gn4 oil and a new kn filter , all the right stuff . put all 4 qts in and it was above upper level indicator , just a bit . drove it several times on short rides and it started stuttering and back firing , sort of sounded at some point like it was jumping to 3 cyl. operation ! Not nice and the warmer the bike got the worse it got.
Drained a cup out and indicator now in the middle obviuosly when cold on center stand in garage , first 3 following shorter rides seem to continue with rough and stuttering behavior ...now on its 3 or 4th ride it seem to be much less but still somewhat there and exhaust sounds louder and slightly differently . Did the reset of the fuel TPS many times over and dont seem to matter. Its better now but what is going on here ?, perhaps a case of some excess oil that needs to be burned out or should i take it in to dealership?. Otherwise VERY happy with the CB1100 . As you can tell I am not a home mechanic .Thanks in advance

  Ash on Bikes

Sorry if this has previously been posted. I could not find it with the search feature, so I thought I would post even if I am bombarded with the harshness that can befall anyone that double posts.

Sadly, the author and interviewer, (see link to Fukunaga interview) Kevin Ash was killed in a m/c accident whilst road/trail testing a BMW R1200GS.

my son has the hots for one and the local dealer just took a trade with 2300 miles on it. I have a couple of Q;s if someone on this board has one. (I think I remember reading someone does)

  Up Hill Battle & Wheelies
Posted by: holy666diver_imp - 04-05-2016, 02:11 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (35)

I've been doing some mountain / twistie riding on my CB and there are a few stretches of road that are really steep. I noticed the bike has no power going up hill unless I am in 1st or 2nd gear. I was in 3rd and I lost so much power I had to down shift to keep from stalling. Has anyone else had this issue? My buddy rides a dual sport and he zipped up the hill in 3rd no problem. I had to keep down shifting ended up in 2nd the whole hill. This is super steep too.

I also figured out in first if I give it gas (4k rpm), back off then give it more gas right away the front end comes right up!!! With this much torque to pop a wheelies how is going up steep hills so difficult on the engine?

  Dent Removal in the DMV
Posted by: Supervillian_imp - 04-04-2016, 10:12 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (21)

Fellas, a friend of mine dropped my CB trying to get the kickstand down and now there is a small dent in the left side of the tank, back near where your knees go. It's barely noticeable, but still...I know it's there!

Anyway, does anyone know of anywhere in the DC metro area that pops out dents? Dentmaster says they can, but I have heard they are expensive and sketchy (although that's just from one person). So far they are the only place I've found locally that can do a MC tank.

All you locals -- any recommendations?
