GrahamT went away for Christmas and took his bike. We had a conversation about whether I might visit for a ride. So, this morning, knowing he was riding home, I sent him a text message to see whether he'd like company.

He replied saying he'd had to drive a car back and leave the bike behind.

There was some to-ing and fro–ing of texts, but it came to pass that I put on my gear and rode out to pick up GrahamT to take him to collect his bike. I sent a text to Tezza inviting him to join us. He said he was busy working on his T500.

It was a horrible day for a ride. The temperature where we were heading was in excess of 35ºC (95ºF) and the effect of wind at 100 kms was warming. I think Tezza looked out the window and thought 'idiots' and went back to his beer.

But, hey, we're CB1100 riders, so we persevered. And, anyway, Brisbane badly needs rain, so we thought we'd do our civic duty and tempt fate.

I didn't tell GrahamT that I'd packed my wets.

We set off for Ipswich and Toowoomba ...

We rode around the back of Wivenhoe Dam watching storm clouds building to the west, up the Northbrook Parkway over Mounts Glorious and Nebo (about which much has already been written) and back down into Brisbane.

We beat the rain home; but, as I write, it's falling and the temperature is falling. Outside it's now 25.6ºC and falling. Much better.

An agreeable 278 kms (288 according to the CB's odometer) to welcome 2017.

HNY 2017 Folks...So its been a great start to the year 2017 with a ride on my CB1100.. The bike just gets better and better .. everything feels so harmonious...Below is the brief ride summary and pictures as well.. Ride Safe y'all..

well first official ride of 2017 was a short one. Weather forecast was good. 33 degrees to start going to 48. My wife asked if she could go this afternoon, so I figured my first ride would be a solo on the CB...starting 2017 as I ended 2016

by the time I got out to the main road I could barely see..fog drops had covered my faceshield, so I raised, it, then they covered my glasses so I lowered them. Could barely see cars coming

I decided this was nuts lol, and turned around and went back home. First official ride covered a whole 5 miles.

Going to wait for it to burn off and head back out later.

My "14" recently started to flexuate idling from the normal 1000RPM to 1200-1400. It's really quite annoying. It has clean oil and the appropriate level. Bike has 3,700 miles. Can anyone advise if this is common or has knowledge on how to correct the problem? Can it be temperature related?

After stopping for a break in Le Touquet, on a very cold run from London, the CB wouldn't turn the starter over. I bumped it and after a 30 min run to the hotel, running high revs, it was fine again and started off the button.

My battery is 2 1/2 years old. The bike is run regularly but not left hooked up to a charger and lives outside. It's winter in the U.K. And getting a bit nippy...
I was riding with a pillion, both running heated jackets and gloves, and I was charging my phone.

Obviously, I wasn't surprised that the battery took a hit. It's probably getting a bit old, it's cold and we were drawing lots of power. It's just that we had done that before without problems and we did the same on the way home. The bike has started on the button since.

What I think caused us the problem was the slow, lazy ride from the ferry to Le Touquet. We were plodding along the coast road and dawdling thru the towns. Running low revs, as we were two up and taking it super easy.

I've heard before, don't know where and if it's true, that Honda Alternaters don't output much below 3 -3.5k revs. Anyone know if this is right?

I'm thinking that I'll change the Battery now anyway, as it's getting on and it's the season for trouble. I also wondered about updating the alternator? Anyone done this or know of an alternative? I've fitted high output alternators to Brit bikes before but never thought I'd need more on the Honda. Also, it's not necercerily more, but more at low revs....

With a new battery, it all could be fine, but I'm going to be in this situation again and bumping the bike, fully loaded isn't something I fancy doing regularly.

Anybody been down this road?

As I write this, it is 2017 already for some of our members and it will soon be thus for all of us. It is tradition to make resolutions, vows, plans, and set goals for the upcoming year, so what are your "resolutions' in regards to motorcycling? Resolving to get more training? Vowing to take that big trip? Planning to buy another motorcycle? Setting a goal to ride a certain number of miles? Apparently someone sent me an email about it and I thought it was a PM here, but it wasn't and I just deleted the message before reading it. I'm not sure who it was (because apparently I'm a dolt) so whomever it was please let me know.

I had my rear fender removed by a local shop and I am very happy with their work. They inspected my valves AND fabricated a custom plate using a CB750 part for $300. It was pretty close so they only had to do some light modding to it.
