Really basic and maybe silly question here but I hope someone can give me some idea about how this all works before I stop into my local dealer.

I live a bit out in the boondocks Texas. There is one Honda dealer in town and I think 2-3 others within about 50 miles. I will be ready to buy a 2017 CB1100 in October. For the few months I have been looking at all these dealers inventory online, none of them has ever shown a CB1100 in stock.

So, what exactly is the process? When I go to my local dealer and express my interest in the bike, do they seek one out from another dealer somewhere and I put down a deposit to show I am serious? Is there a way to literally "order one from the factory" and have it sent over?

Since this is not a popular bike around here and they don't carry them, should I pretty much expect to not be able to deal much on price?

I am a bit curious because using the online forms you send into dealers to request a quote on the bike has been ignored by all three dealers. I know I could just go there in person but I thought I could get a general idea of how to go about getting the bike through email. But it is as if the dealers don't want to make a sale?

Thanks for any input into exactly how I can go about getting my dream bike!

Hi Guys, New CB1100EX owner here. I see that much like motor oil, there are countless different brands and types of chain lube on the market. I see chain lube, chain wax, etc., etc. Any advice on what to use and how often to apply it. I assume it is just as simple as it would seem: Put it up on the center stand and spin the rear wheel slowly while spraying it directly on the chain? Thanks, Nappi

Just watched the video review comparo of the CB, the R9, and the Triumph Bonnie 1200. I've always enjoyed reading John Burns, and I remember Evans from his past work at CRUISER magazine when I began my bike search in 1998.

Anyway...John mentioned the compression difference between the Honda and BMW as the primary difference in hp, and then said how easy it would be to up the compression in the Honda motor. Easy? Really? And what about the air cooling? How do easy and inexpensive correlate in this endeavor? I really have no idea, but he did say it, so it made me wonder.

I really don't mean for this to be _another_ thread about "How do we get more power from our 1100's" or "WHY didn't Honda put more hp in my bike?"

I'm just curious about his offhand comment that makes it all sound so simple.

Hey Guys, I'm a newbie here, but have been lurking a while. I currently ride a V45 Magna, but am looking for something a little newer and reliable. There are dealers here in WI advertising 2014 CB1100s for 6 grand. That seems a great deal, but why didn't these bikes sell?

On the left and right sides of the 2017 motor are two chrome caps per side about 1-1/2" in diameter. They appear to be caps/covers of some sort. What is under these?

Some of the most interesting rides I've taken locally are when I use my TomTom GPS feature called "Plan a Thrill". The name is a misnomer for what you get, at least here in Kentucky. With this route planning algorithm in charge, you will be directed down the smallest possible, most remote, and infrequently traveled roads. I've had some occasions where the road simply became private property, or petered out into nothing. At that point, the GPS snaps out if its apparent slumber and directs you to re-trace the last 5 miles of your route to return to civilization. These routes do not represent thrilling riding, unless you consider lots of loose gravel, unexpected sharp changes of direction, narrow bridges of indeterminate suitability for motorcycles, and a narrow riding path to be thrilling. At most you can ride 25-35 mph, visibility ahead permitting, and beware your front brake.

Today one of those "GPS" experiences occurred. I took a left off a one-lane road onto an even smaller one-lane road. A shirtless, tow-headed boy of about 12 years old appeared out of the woods on my right driving a Gator and followed me to...his house in the middle of the woods. When I stopped, he pulled up beside me with a look of puzzlement. I said, "My GPS brought me here for some reason! I need to turn around!" He said, "Just go through the yard, it's OK!" So that's what I did as his dad looked over from his farm chores quizzically.
