My Staintune slip-on arrived this afternoon, so I thought I'd better post up some pics. I'm going to get my bike tomorrow, so it will be a few days before I get it installed. First impressions of the appearance of the pipe are even better than expected. I have a few other brands of custom exhaust on some of my other bikes (Two Bros and Leo Vince), and while they are very nice for mass produced exhausts, this Staintune has a hand-crafted, artisan look about it. It's simply a work of art. The polished stainless looks better than most, if not all, chrome I've ever seen. Even the clamp is stainless and shows the same attention to detail as the muffler. I purchased this from a guy named Brandon in the parts dept. at Sturgis Yamaha/BMW (605-347-2636) and he gave me some good old-fashioned customer service. He also shipped it the 200 miles to my house for free. The exhaust was $899 including tax. Pretty spendy, no doubt, but once I saw it, I felt a lot better about paying that price. I can't wait to hear it!

So I know honda expected this bike to be bought by the guys who wanted to re-experience the CB750's of their youth, but I'm curious how old the people who actually bought the bike are... I'm probably the youngster of the group at 29.

Posting this is going to take awhile so bear with me.....

The 600 mile service is really an easy one. It's basically an oil and filter change and a most general check. The general check includes throttle play, chain tension, lights operation etc. The manual also calls for checking torque on nuts and bolts and checking steering head bearing tension, but we're not doing that and either would your dealer.

To start, we need to know a few specs:

The first thing you'll do is start the bike and let it run 2-3 minutes. I feel the cylinder fins, and when they are warm ( not hot) I turn it off. Then pop it up on the centerstand. Slide your drain pan underneath.

Move to the right side of the bike and remove the oil fill plug

Locate the oil drain plug which is a 14 mm silver bolt under the engine

Take a ratchet, a short extension and a 17 mm socket and loosen the bolt (turn counter clockwise). Once loose continue to loosen by hand unti its free and pull it out of the way letting the oil drain into the pan.

Take a rag and dry off the drain bolt, and crush washer if you didn't drop it in the oil lol. If the crush washer shows signs of deformation, or wont easily pull off the threads of the drain bolt, discard it and get your new one for later.

Once the oil stream slows way down scoot the pan forward under the oil filter and grab your wrench and again turning counter clockwise break it loose.

Once loose, put the wrench down and further loosen the filter by hand until its free. Be careful when it comes off, the filter is basically a cup full of oil, so once free pour the oil out of the filter into the drain pan.

Be sure to discard oil filter in a bag you can seal otherwise it will leak oil into your garbage can

Oil will drain for a long time, so while its draining we will do some of the other checks

Throttle play is measure from full off to where you start to feel tension while turning the throttle. To measure it, put a line on the top of your throttle grip

Then take a ruler and with the mark at 0 turn your throttle till you feel tension and measure the distance it turned. (I forgot to download the pic so i'll add it later)
Spec is 2-6 mm or max 1/4 ". Mine was at 4 mm so it was still in spec.
If the throttle play did need adjustment, the adjuster is on the upper throttle cable and requires an 8 and a 10 mm open end wrench

Grab an air gauge and check your tire pressures 36 front and 42 rear is spec

Next check your crankcase breather tubes. There are two. One under the throttle bodies

If there is any fluid in the tubes, put a drain under them, pull the black caps, and drain them.
Grab a ruler and measure your chain tension halfway between the sprockets. Spec call for 1 to 1 1/4 inch of slack. Mine measured 1inch so it was still in spec.

If your chain needs tightening, you'll need a 32 mm socket, a breaker bar or heavy duty ratchet, and an 8 mm wrench or socket. Loosen the axle nut and use the 8 mm wrench to turn the adj bolts 1/2 turn counter clockwise each, check your tension again. Once properly adjusted tighten axle nut. I tighten mine tight, but spec is 85 foot pounds if you want to measure it.

Anyone else notice their feet getting warm after riding for a while? I think the catalytic converter is getting quite hot and radiating a lot of heat. It could just be me.....but I'm suspecting not.

I bought the first CB1100 that my dealership had. THEY were unsure what they ordered, and had to search for the answer as to which model they had. I'd have gladly bought an ABS model, but never having had it, it wasn't too compelling to me to wait.
My last bike had a rear drum, and a single front disc. So I would say that this is an amazing improvement. I am of the opinion that it is up to the rider to learn to work with what they have under them. My CB just feels more poised than the cruiser, so maybe thats it.
But the extra security of a possible save from ABS? Seems like it could be a good thing. Wondering what everyone else bought and what they thought.

This past weekend I was able to enjoy a casual ride on the CB1100 out on some of the local backroads. I just received an action cam and this was my first attempt at using it. Sorry, it's rather lengthy (it gets pretty boring) as I haven't gotten around to actually editing the video yet.

I received the motorcycle lock that can be stored under the seat from the webike site in Japan

It is a Honda lock, in a box with a Honda part number tag. It arrived with no key or tumbler to lock it with. The Honda box was packed in a shipping box. The Honda box had been opened, maybe by customs.

I emailed webike about the missing parts, but after jwayne's experience, I'm not expecting much.

So I did my first oil change at 497 miles, ( It is going to rain all week here)
A little word of caution - on most new bikes I have bought the drain plug bolt was way tight. Not so here, mine took very little to remove and not
near the 22ft.lbs. it should be. You might want to check yours!
I did cut open the oil filter. Very well made like I had heard.
I have done this a lot since I used to sell so many brands.
I found no extra junk in it. I once cut open a Kaw. filter at 100 miles and
found it packed with gasket sealer!
I have a lift so it was easy except we had been out on some roads
covered with manure the day before

I went for a little ride today up to the observatory. I think I may be the first one up there on a new 1100, but I will never know for sure. Not sure why I keep putting myself through that (I get motion sick on bad roads), but I keep doing it.
