2013 ABS forks upgrade :NOT
#1
I had bought a 2017 set of front forks to put on my 2013 and 2014.
As my 2013 has over 10.000 miles on it I thought that I do that one first.
It went very easy , especially having a Pitbull front stand :HOWEVER , the last job was to put the brake calipers back and than I noticed that they would not fit.
The bolt pattern on the 2013 brake calipers is about 1 inch further apart than on the 2014 DLX or 2017 and therefor they would not fit.
Put the old forks back again and I will put the forks on the 2014.
It could be different on the non ABS 2013 but do not order the 2017 forks for the 2013 ABS !!!

That's a bummer. I certainly wouldn't have seen that coming. Hopefully all will go well with the '14.

Bummer but at least you have the '14 waiting for a set as well.

Powerdubs never mentioned any problems putting the '17 forks on his '14 so hopefully all goes well.

I am just waiting for a Staintune to show up before doing the suspension upgrade, might as well only take it apart once.

I just finished putting the 2017 forks on my 2014 , very easy to do.
They say measure twice and cut once but I have to say : look twice and order once !
I should have noticed that the calipers on the ABS 2013 has 3 pistons and therefor is longer than the later 2 piston calipers on the 2014 and 2017.
Has the non abs 2013 calipers also 3 pistons or is it only 2 ?

Sorry- my '14 does not have ABS.

2013 ABS models were the only ones with 3 piston calipers for the linked ABS. 2014+ is non-linked 2 piston calipers.

So the conclusion is that the upgraded 2017 forks will fit the non ABS 2013 but not the 2013 with ABS .

Have you ridden the bike for a decent amount of time yet? How do you like the forks?

I put 52k miles on my 2013 and about 1200 miles on my 2017. I can't say that I've noticed any difference for my riding style.

Seriously?

I noticed a substantial decrease in harsh impact on frost heave, bad patch jobs, etc- anything that I would have normally said F me when I hit it, or my wife would smack me in the helmet, as if I had control over the road quality. Now it is much smoother, as are the Ikon (Koni) shocks on the rear.

I don't know where you live- but do you have harsh blows to be able compare between the 2? Difference should definitely be notable.

Don't get me wrong- some people are cool with the stock seat, stock shocks, Mcdonalds, Walmart... and I sort of wish I was one of them since it would be a LOT cheaper way to live. Literally ignorance is bliss.

I spend a LOT on almost everything in my life because I notice little differences.

Don't get me started on TV picture quality.... the problem is- once you know what you are looking at, you can't NOT see it.

I go to all my family or in-laws houses and their TV are either washed out from brightness or contrast being too high + bleached or WAAAAY too much color were everything blinds you and bleeds at the same time. And god help us if it is a football game- when they throw the ball or run and it just stutters across the screen.

How many people do you know that not only buy certain TV based on how it handles motion, displays blacks, color accuracy without being blown out- but then pays someone more knowledgeable, experienced, and has the equipment to come to my house with all sorts of specialized equipment to send signals, a 'camera' that measures the results, sends it to a computer with special software and then analyze the output and make adjustments, then retest. Takes several hours.

Not much different than tuning a bike or car, but much less common.

I'm weird- I like what I like and want to get the best out of it. You don't want to know what I've done with cars over the years. 12 cylinders, listen to my horses...(song quote)

Haha- I'm totally off on a rant, but that is OK. I'm mid 40's and been like this since day 1. Started playing with motorcycles when I was a little kid. Used to buy them blown up, just parts in boxes, having no idea what was wrong with them and no experience- but somehow I figured out how to put it back together, some part look damaged (typically top end on a 2-stroke) and managed to make a running bike that led to a life long obsession with dirtbikes leading to cars, motorcycles...throw in the quads, jetski.

Now I am getting somewhat older now- so focuses are turning towards quality food, travel, watches and stock investments. Ha! My teenage self would have kicked my own a**.

My wife says I live to the beat of a different drummer. It is fun, but also frustrating as nobody else really gets it. There is a reason I drink a lot. Sad
