LED upgrade
#1
Hi, I have a CB with a halogen headlight as standard. I've just got a cheap bankrupt stock LED headlight & would like to add it to the CB.
Problem I have is the connector is 8 pin and no idea which pin to connect where. Couldn't find a 2018 wiring diagram via search engine so I have emailed Stanley in Japan to see if they can help with the connections.
So far the LED fits the old style headlight case perfectly and all the clips and screws line up.
Can't find the connector plug so ordered the nearest thing to it (Sumitomo TS-025" 8 way) the tiny pins maybe useful if nothing else.
Some of the pins maybe unused by Honda i.e. parking light which I think is half the DLR's at half brightness?
Anyone out there with anything to add would be appreciated. I'll keep the forum updated as/when or IF I succeed. Thanks

Right. A number of members have changed from halogen to LED. Someone will help.

There’s also a link to a wiring diagram somewhere, but I’m away and it’s harder to search than at home.

Here it is: http://cb1100forum.com/forum/showthread....#pid199015

Click on the red ‘HERE’ at the bottom of Max’s post. The diagram is for the 2014 standard.

Thanks, the 2018 wiring diagram would also be useful to see the 8 pin headlight connections & make comparisons. Just to be clear, this is the Genuine Honda (Made by Stanley) LED headlight that Honda refer to as four eyes. It would have been easier to use a plug n play Chinese headlight, but I want to keep things legal for insurance reasons. I did try one once but cars were flashing me, super bright though.

We're the curious kind of rider and in the absence of a recent diagram could you " enlighten " us with a picture of the 8 pin connector and where it connects to so we can have an educated guess as to what the wires do?

Reason for asking is that the wiring colors may be a clue and the diagram does not show an 8 pin connector as far as i know, again; curious

All I have at the moment is the replacement. I presume the pins are used to connect high beam, low beam, DLR (US may not use this function), parking light (dimmed DLR). The headlight seems to have 8 large LED's and a halo of many small LED's
Hope the photo link works

Link works fine and i am glad i asked the question, thanks for the timely response.
Unless a better idea comes your way my best suggestion is to get a proper connector for the headlight, you need a good one anyway and the next step is to test the individual led's and see which belongs in the high and low beam category, best way is to use a 12v lightbulb ( in case you accidentally make a short it will limit the current to a safe level ) in series with a 12v source and discover the pattern and polarity of the led's.

My guess is that the contacts are split into four groups, positives on one side ( top ) and the negative on the other ( lower ) that may or may not have the negative in common ( connected together ) .

You will end up with two sets of led's and the multitude of contacts is for good distribution of the load current i guess.

Next trick is to find a good way to connect the halogen connectors to the new wiring in such a way that the situation can be reversed in the future, maybe an old halogen lamp base with the glass removed can be used to solder the new wires in the right way to this base?
