So I bought a nice low miles 2013 CB1100 a littler over two weeks ago, $4800 from the dealer - what a deal!
Except that the previous owner put ape hangers on the bike. The bike looked ridiculous. I bought the bike anyways and decided to have the dealer put the handlebars back to stock. It would take two weeks at most they said. However, after two weeks of waiting they inform me Honda has the right starter assembly part #35130-MEJ-671 on backorder.
So they don't seem to have any idea how to finished the job. Has anyone run into this before? I talked with the dealer and I told them I would see if I could locate the part myself. I ordered it from Partzilla.com but I doubt they actually have it in stock. I'm waiting for an email from them saying they don't actually have it.
I saw this one eBay but it looks semi-trashed.

I'm at a loss, any advice appreciated!

Revzilla for me has been pretty good about their website saying if something was out of stock beyond the normal time period that most of these places do which is to order from a parts supplier and then ship to you in few days.

They show it as I would expect- as opposed to other parts I just ordered a few days ago that said 'expected to ship in 6-8 weeks- which I take as them sourcing from overseas.

Yeah it’s not looking good when revzilla doesn’t even list a date huh?
But you’re right at least they are honest about it.

All Honda parts dealers, whether on-line or walk-in, get their parts the same way, from the same source - Honda. They order from the same Honda computer link, get the parts from one of the 6 or 7 local warehouses.
If their local warehouse doesn't have it, it is cross-shipped from the next closest warehouse if there are any in the country. If none in the country, it is backordered, awaiting overseas shipping/customs clearing/packaging.
For the most part, no one stocks any parts anymore - everything is ordered. If your local dealer or Partzilla or Bike Bandit can't get it, no one else can either.
The part on eBay is for a 2014 model, and both throttle cables are kinked and junk.
That part, number 35130-MGC-N21, is electrically the same, and would plug into your bike fine. It looks slightly different, and uses different throttle cables that may be a half an inch longer, but others on the forum (was it PowerDubs?) have swapped 2013-2014 right side switches.
If it were me, I'd order the 2014 switch, and use either 2013 or 2014 throttle cables. (The throttle tubes and throttle bodies are the same.) The switches' mounting pin location in the handlebar may be different, requiring drilling a hole in the bar.

Other forums over this year's months have expressed issues of part back order, mostly blamed on supply-chain shortages due to Covid-19.
Last year it seem delays were due to international shipping and customs. I reckon those still exist to some degree.

Just a thought. Is it possible to contact the original owner and ask him if he still has the original switch assembly? It doesn't hurt to ask.

Yes I'm starting to realize that. No one actually carries these parts. I just wish Honda at least had an ETA out there. Who knows when that part might be available.
I might talk with the dealer about trying to use the 2014 part from eBay. Like you said it should be almost the same as the 2013 and it does look like the cables can be ordered separately.

I think the ape hangers that were installed did have the original switches on them. But from what the dealer told me the modifications that were made to them to install them on the ape hangers damaged them in a way that made re-using them not possible.
It was a good idea though.

I actually ordered it from Partzilla but I'm skeptical they actually have it in stock.

It just took me well over three months to get a left hand switch cube for my Triumph, nobody wants to stock anything anymore, not even the manufacturer. Most bikes are pretty good these days and most major manufacturers offer a bike in a category you would buy, service is the only differentiator these days. Those that cannot provide good service will lose my business. My Triumph has been off the road five months in its first three and a half years of life, mostly down to waiting for parts. Do I like Triumph's, sure do, would I buy another? I would have to think long and hard about that. Am I being too harsh on Triumph though, is every manufacturer like this now?

Nobody wants to keep inventory that might never sell.
